ROCKY II is vastly underrated. The last 30 minutes (hospital scene, two training montages, pre-fight visit with priest, the fight and unpredictable conclusion) is easily the best and most emotional sequence in any film I've ever seen....the epitome of Rocky's will/heart that will continue to resonate throughout the rest of the series.
For sure I think Rocky 2 is damn near as good as 1. It’s hard for it to be equal since 1 was unprecedented but 2 I think is one of the few sequels that was just as powerful as the first.
When I was a teenager I was studying Japanese. My teacher thought I was ready to take the certification in the embassy. My father went with me the day of the test. The exam has 2 parts with a portion for resting in the middle. The 1st part was very hard to me, and I thought that I might fail the exam. In the period of resting I left the classroom and I went out to see my father. He asked me for the exam. I didn't have the courage to say that I may fail. My father just smile me and told me you will pass. I come back to the classroom for the second portion of the exam,and I was just thinking about my father and I did my best effort. I passed the certification. And I am pretty sure my father changed in a positive way my mind that day.
That look on his face when she said win. We literally see all his exhaustion vanish and his eyes change. He goes from being tired to pumped. Worried to motivated. Man this movie is excellently done. Not only do you feel this moment but the energy from it Is transferred to the audience and that is masterful writing
Hands down my favorite scene in all the Rocky movies. As a man, nothing feels better than hearing that your girl has your back and is behind you 100%. This is Adrian's most beautiful performance.
this is also arguably the best training scene. Rocky 1 is iconic, Rocky 4 is the most impressive, but this is the training scene where you can just feel how hungry Rocky is and how badly he wants to win.

What an amazing story. A man struggling to provide for his wife and newborn son. He has few marketable skills, survival won't be easy. His sick wife clearly didn't want him to fight again before she lapsed into a coma due to complications from childbirth. When she awakes, she sees things clearly. Their lives are at a crossroads. They can have each other and survive, but little else, or she can choose a different path. Her husband loves her, is devoted to her. He wants to provide for her and she realizes the way he can do so with dignity is to support him in his desire to fight. He's like a force of nature restrained. With one phrase and an adorable smile, she releases him to pursue their shot at a more elevated destiny. Then he prepares with everything he has to pass through the brutal crucible against the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time, a man who is equally determined but perhaps less hungry to defeat him. The fight is simply perfect and the two men go on to become friends. This is the ultimate love story and underdog story. In my opinion, Rocky II is one of the greatest movies ever made. Oh and the score is just, perfect. The greatest score in movie history. Finally, the casting is spot on. Adrian is a woman who could love a simple man like Rocky. Rocky notices her and loves her but she doesn't turn into some amazingly hot beauty with a make over, she's still just a woman from his neighborhood whom he remains devoted to, just as he remains the loan sharks heavy with fists of stone. Mickey is a legend. Apollo and his trainer are perfectly cast to the point where we respect them and can easily understand why they all become friends and work together later.
