Welcome to the THIRD part of our series dealing with Golfer's Elbow. Can you keep climbing with this injury? How to condition your shoulders and elbows while dealing with Golfer's Elbow? How to avoid it once you return to regular climbing? The answers to these questions and a lot more are to be found in our Crack the Boulder mini-series on climbing with Golfer's Elbow.
Have you ever wondered what technique to use on what type of boulder? Do you climb, but are you unsure about what moves to use when climbing an overhang as opposed to a slab or vertical wall? If so, then this is the channel for you.
If you like what you see, then hit the like button and subscribe to our RUclips channel. We'd love to hear from all the other climbers out there.

I suffered climber elbow almost 2 years trying different porcedures. The key are excentric excercises. The weight should be constantly increased as long as it doesnt agrravate the tendon. I'm finally pain free reaching 15kg dumbell for 8-10 reps. 3kg dumbells are good for warmup or really early rehab. Such light weights are usless long term. 100 reps with 2kg dumbell doesnt prepere tendon to single hard moves on boulders.

      Well done for beating it!

Best of your series so far. I hope you go on and pretend you have other common climbers injuries....tennis elbow....what is it really? That calls for some anatomy so we can see that actually there are huge variety of issues with muscles, tendons and nerves which get lumped together...because really pinning down causes is not easy....even for the most qualified. If someone is going climbing....or playing music...these are fundamentals widely ignored.

I only wish it was pretending. I'm still dealing with it, although it's now at the stage where I can climb, but I can't train yet, which is super frustrating. Seen a bunch of physio's and osteopaths...everyone has there own theory on how to fix it. The common denominator is that the golfer's "climber's" elbow is often the result of other underlying injuries, such as stiff shoulders...or simply bad climbing technique, built up over the years.

@@BoulderLab It's clear you have a real injury, which effects millions of people. I should not have used the word "pretend", but I just meant it would be nice to hear from you about other very common similar nerve and tendon problems we all face.

@@uhoh007 I'm sure we will do more episodes on injuries. But there are so many topics we want to cover! Also, it's different if it's not personal. With the elbow we did lot's of research, and the level of in depth knowledge is different if you actually go through it. But both Marek and I have had shoulder injuries, maybe that will be next on the firing line.

That sounds terrible. I'm lighthearted in the vids, but to be fair sometimes it feels desperate. One step forward, three steps back :(

does this help tennis elbow too?

With tennis elbow it's the the other way round, you do eccentric exercises but you do them to load the extensor on the outside of the forearm. So when I do the exercise at 0:35 in the vid, you need to do that upside down. Start with very small weights and work your way up slowly.

Can you still climb and take it easy?

    • @BoulderLab

I try and try and try to take it easy, but the heart wants what it wants, and it wants to climb hard. It's a constant dialogue in my head. I've also started climbing on overhanging walls..just a little, to test my elbow. Will see what happens.
