- This video features part one of a complete cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) counseling role-play session in which techniques including identifying automatic thoughts, using self-talk, and behavior experiments are used to treat social anxiety disorder.
Having social anxiety is the worst
There are worse things, but it is certainly very bad.
I found the part 1 of this session very helpful to know where to start off with the client who is experiencing social anxiety. I think it's great to use an example of a time that the client has felt this anxiety and walk through it with them.
I also watched this series of role plays to understand more about Social Anxiety and what CBT techniques you can incorporate into the sessions.
Social anxiety is much more extreme than this. Everyone can be afraid of public speaking. I agree that she is having performance anxiety, but this is not SAD. I have social anxiety- it is weeks and weeks before and after an event. It is not being able to walk to the bathroom in fear of others looking at you. It is shaking while holding one on one casual conversations. It is becoming physically sick from worrying about seeing your friends in a coffee shop.
This video is not accurate from my experiences with SAD. Personally, I bail out of public speeches every time. I simply could never do it.
So this seems like its making the illness out to be less than it is.
Did you say "friends".
There is a hierarchy or different levels of the disorder. Some ppl have a more extreme form than others.
A year has gone by, have you made any progress?
You described me perfectly.
I never thought Dr grande would help me with my anxiety! I only knew about your analysis videos.
Unfortunately, it seems like the therapist has social anxiety and the client is relaxed. The body language of the client is so relaxed and the therapist is constantly busy with his hands.
Gotta love some CBT role-play.
I'm sorry but this video has nothing to do with social anxiety. It's performance anxiety. She never mentioned other people once. Social anxiety literally destroys your mind :(
Jack Cox she's not giving presentations to an empty room, it's a form of social anxiety
I agree with you.
This person seems to present with an acute version of performance anxiety, whereas I think a diagnosable social anxiety would be more chronic in presentation.
