Love the explanations on your off grid home and the little 12V 230Ah Plus Battery and 3000 Watt battery charger. Love your covered porch and the comedy act at the end. Ha ha 😃

You are correct. You are the only one I saw so far with the liTime inverter charger.
I have a question. Does it switch to grid charging automatically if there’s no solar power like on a cloudy day or during the night if there’s no solar battery runs low?

Looks like a neat setup! Depending on your max wattage, you may want to check your wire size from the inverter to the battery. I think 3000 watts will pull about 250 amps. You'd need about 4/0 wire for maximum output.

Thanks for the suggestion! We are in the process of ordering precrimped 4/0 copper wires. The 2/0 was about the best we could easily find in town.

3k watts is closer to 60 amps.

@2hotscottpro At what voltage? My math is 3000 watts divided by 12 volts is 250 amps.

@@2hotscottproOK. That makes sense. I was making my comment based on him using a 12 volt battery and a 12 volt inverter.

Add 3 more of those 230ah batteries and 2500 Watt of solar you can run Anything

Would you happen to know how efficient that Li Time inverter is? How many watts an hour does it use when idle.? Good video.

what do you do with the grounding wire on the litime invertor? I don't know if we need to install a grounding rod or can we just leave it? thanks

    • @bigskyoffgrid
      @bigskyoffgrid  3 месяца назад

We'll definitely be installing a permanent grounding rod outside the cabin and attaching the inverter to it. We're in the process of moving the inverter inside next to the electrical panel.
If you installed the inverter in a RV, grounding to the RV steel frame would be the best option.

Whats been done on the inside of your home this summer? With the deck build. Hopefully you 2 can put somethings inside out on the porch for walls, floors n trim work? Idk it been a bit since ive seen the inside.
    The pups are Gourgeous ❤

Cleaning! Hahaha, the inside of the house has been a giant mess for a while. We are trying to get back to working inside. It has been so hot lately we have been outside a lot more. Between the garden, the roof, and the puppies we've been pretty busy. We're hoping to get back to working on electrical and plumbing in the next month or so. Then insulation and drywall as well as a surprise or two :)
It will be super helpful to have the porch for storage during the finishing of the inside. Covered outside space was very limited a month ago.
      Thanks for watching!

Put a clamp amp meter on battery cable going in inverter.Plug air fryer in watt meter. My 6k inverter pulls 16 amps from battery to run 6 amp mini split.
    See the big loss?
It’s wh watt hours not watts per hour. And that’s just on not loaded.I was shocked when I figured that consumption info out.

There aren't many videos on this particular inverter charger so I was very happy to come across your video. Quick question. Have you tried to power this inverter from a generator? I recently purchased this inverter and it runs fine off the grid power but it does not qualify generator input. It passes electricity through but it does not charge the battery from a generator. Charging works fine when connected to grid power.
Per the product manual, a possible cause for this is a high input voltage (from a generator), but I'm not aware of inverter generators (that's what I'm running) that allow you to adjust the generator output voltage (mine shows 126V output, it does not have AVR but has an ECM, which can be reset by disconnecting wires, which doesn't help). I reached out to LiTime customer support but I'm not getting much help with the current rep (I'm yet to get through to a technical person who can do more than just read the product manual). I also played with a dip switch on the inverter, which is designed to address the exact issue, but changing the input voltage doesn't seem to fix the problem.
Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.

We were able to use the charging function on the Inverter Charger using both a Champion 3500W inverter generator as well as our large home power stations.
I can't think of anything you haven't already tried to troubleshoot. The only thing I can think of to test would be to put a load on the generator (something like 500watts) to drop the voltage a bit. Or use a long heavy duty extension cord from the generator to the inverter charger (100' 10 gauge extension cord) to also drop the voltage a bit. Not great solutions, but they might give you a bit more info.
Would you mind sending us an email at bigskyoffgrid@gmail.com? We will forward it over to our contacts at LiTime to help assist.

@@bigskyoffgrid Hello again. Thank you for your response. Based on your experience it sounds like I might've had a faulty unit. This inverter is indeed designed to deal with a wide range of voltage and amperage input but for some reason, it did not work for me. I've exchanged lots of emails with LiTime's customer support and eventually, they agreed to take back the unit. They could not figure out what was happening. Btw, I tried putting an additional load on the generator but that did not help. I ended up buying Victron setup and it worked beautifully on the first try.
