I bough the tool kit for the M54 engine. Before I could use it on my own engine, people found out I had the tools and wanted to borrow them. I asked around to get other people's take on lending tools. They said take a deposit (for the full value) and return the deposit, less the rental fee when the tools are returned in good order.
Do you need this for the e39 non-vanos V8 engine? Have about 130k but car has been sitting for 6 years so figure I’d take care of some of the bigger maintenance items before restarting and using as my daily driver. TIA!
Hello sir. I didn't quite understood why do we need to use this. My objective is too just replace vanos piston Seals and rattle. Do I need to buy this? Thank you very much
Would you recommend buying the kits from ebay/amazon for $75 or renting them from a place like Beisan for ~$50 (with shipping)? if you think the ebay kit is good enough quality for 1 or 2 jobs, that's good enough for me.
With respect, you should update or REMOVE this video. It's impossible to CORRECTLY time the M62tu with these tools. Dont encourage people to buy cheap stuff like this! Even the cam blocks are in my opinion unusable. The wider cut out is supposed to fit and lock the cams, and the inner (smaller) one is just a cut out for clearance since cam protrudes past the square end piece. But in these chinese red/blue boxes the wider cut out serve no function AT ALL and the inner one just barely locks the cam. Bump the block slightly and they fall off. Not to mention that on bank one you cant fasten the hex because of misaligned holes. Now is this a tool you trust to align your vanos engine with?
My passenger side is off now.. I bought a cheap one and your correct. Cam blocks are complete rubbish!! The vanos socket doesn't even fit over the solenoid.

Have you had problems with the timing after the using this m62 timing kit? Or should I just buy German Auto Solutions for setting the timing?
