Few bands ever reach the popularity, influence and status of the early-'90s rock group . Anyone who's old enough to remember knows that the trio from Aberdeen, Wash., helped pioneer grunge rock. But more than that, Nirvana became a symbol for an entire generation of ideas and popular culture, from fashion and art to our collective conversations about the way young people were making sense of the world back then, and how they saw their place in it.
Remarkably, Nirvana did all this in a very short period of time, from about 1987 to 1994, and only released three albums during that period. The last one the band released - about a year before singer Kurt Cobain took his own life - celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The album, In Utero, is being reissued with some remarkable additions: There's a remastered version of the original record, a remixed version, a DVD, a disc of live recordings, a bunch of previously unreleased demos, and tons of photos and liner notes.

If they, after 20 or 30 years, still had not learned to handle this, they would be in big trouble.
Dave said, they had so much fun back then. They are able to remember the good times and acknowledge the whole picture, even if there is a lot of pain in this too.
This is a normal process. You can not only think about the bad and the pain. Both have lived more years without Kurt than with him now. A lot of experience, good and bad down the road.
It might sound harsh, but life for them did not stop the day Kurt died. It propably felt like it, but at some point they knew life keeps going on.

@@johnmchugh8049 well it’s pretty much like i said, underground bands loved albini’s raw producing style but post nirvana he jacked up his prices then started acting like there was a plot against him.
i believe it’s the doc about failure golden in which they said they had paid a relatively fair price to record with him and enjoyed the product, but they didn’t return because after a certain “popular” band recorded with him his rates skyrocketed.
seeing as nirvana paid him $2M it wouldn’t be surprising if his rates afterwards were far out of the reach of a majority of bands that wanted to work with him.
i’m not hugely researched on the topic however, but i’d likely to guess the truth lies somewhere in the middle. maybe more bands wanted to do a non label involved albini production (nirvana paid out of pocket in order to have no label interference with the record) but his prices were too high and execs didn’t want their bands having full creative control, hence he’d start to lose out on business.
that’d make most sense to me at least and would account for both sides of the argument.

+Jesper Nielsen. You got it right. It was like another Beatles. Too bad that it ended the way it did. Kurt did say in one of their last interviews that he was glad that Dave was writing songs to help out because the pressure was too much for Kurt to handle. That's why I have doubts about his death & I hate thinking this way but some things didn't sound right about his death. Unless Kurt was just getting too high & started having some strange thoughts. Things were going to change. Kurt had new idea's & it would have been great to have seen what they were going to do next.

Regardless if family felt the police blotched it up, or if the family thought Kurt's wife played a part in it. I mean she really wanted that electrician to get to that house and put a security light & camera on the front of the garage........
But then again we have to remember that Kurt had also been talking some wild shit. Bad enough his band mates didn't want to repeat it because it sorta made them all look like they didn't care or they figured he was going to kill himself. It was a tuff time in Rock History...

    • @Daxman360

aj2674 They already did that with Nevermind. In Utero was more of a personal album, to turn off the jocks who got into nevermind, Whereas Nevermind was full of catchy poppy rock melodies to become "famous". I hate being cliche but it is genuinely a case of Kurt wanting to be a huge star, becoming it, and then not wanting it.

  • @keeelane

The drum sound on In Utero sounds different from other Albini stuff is because it was remixed by another guy after the label heard it because they thought it didn't sound radio friendly or commercial enough. The original Albini mix surfaced only a couple of years ago, I think. I don't understand why they didn't mention it. Maybe they didn't want to ruin their rock street cred or whatever?

    • @jnthemyst
      @jnthemyst 6 лет назад +4

you're mistaken, scott litt remixed heart shaped box and all apologies because the label and kurt supposedly thought the vocals were too low..nothing to do with the drums and those two songs were the only ones remixed.

There are many big name bands that don't suck; Zeppelin, CCR, Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. and there are many big name bands that do suck; Kid Rock, Justin Bieber, Brittany Spears, etc.
You've grown up in an era where mainstream music consists of media marketed, big name bands that exist solely for the purpose of making money. That's all you've known, so it's natural that you'd assume that all big name bands suck.
