They need to know to get rid of it. They are on fixed incomes and should not have to pay for shoddy engineering brought on by CAFE standards. No one should really!
@@AdoptedHistoryNot a lucky one. In Malaysia, many Nissan owners will change the transmission fluid at every other oil change (oil change at 10,000km with fully synthetic oil, transmission fluid change at 20,000km). My ex-housemate's Nissan Sylphy is still running great 15 years and over 300,000km later without any gearbox issues at all.
I love my 2016 Nissan Sentra, never had any CVT issues with a simple service every 30,000 miles. Very smooth and efficient to drive, I would never go back to Honda
Do a video on how Toyota killed many people with stuck gas pedals or many other brands for other issues, don’t ever recall Nissan ever killing anyone 😂
insufficient cooling is a huge problem for jatco cvt, and nissan knew it but too cheap to throw in auxilary cooler. fun fact, some of the nissan car was never designed to drive continuously over 65mph, don't ask how i know.
I used to own a 2014 Sentra and I managed to change the fluid every 20k miles which it lasted 167k miles before I sold it. Even with that, the reputation is already broken and Nissan should just go back to the drawing board with a new transmission. Even for me who's mechanically literate, the only modern Nissan I would buy are the ones with stickshift. My current daily is a 2016 Versa with 5 speed manual. Sadly, they're slowly fading away since the Versa, the only currently new manual transmission economy car in the market, is discontinuing in 2025. Edit: the 2016 Versa with 5 speed manual is great to drive. My only nitpick is the delayed throttle response since it's drive-by-wire electric throttle than drive-by-cable mechanical throttle. I can feel the instant throttle response difference on my 93 Nissan Hardbody truck.
I know a couple people who have Versa's and one of them is actually obsessed with it haha. Some cars grow on people tho so I get it, I hope you the hell out of that car man - if it works for you that's all that matters 😃
We have a 2015 Altima, we serviced the CVT at 80,000 miles, the car now has 185,000 miles and we aren't sure if we should have the CVT serviced again or not.
Nissan makes amazing sports cars, but they suck at making normal cars. I have an R32 Skyline GTR and a Fairlady Z33, and I hope to have an R34 Skyline GTR and S15 Silvia at some point in the near future. But I would never touch a normal car of theirs.
@@AdoptedHistory Noooo, I have an Z33 and an R32 at the moment, but eventually I want an S15 and an R34. And they're sorta project cars/sorta daily drivers? I have a completely different car as a daily. But they aren't stock. 🥵🥵
My wife has a 2009 murano luckily we have had no cvt issues yet. Car has 171000 miles. It gets cvt fluid change every 30K miles. Although I do feel like we are on borrowed time before the it takes a dump.
Thanks so much for this! I had a 1990 Nissan manual PU that gave me a long life with few problems. Am shopping for a new car and wanted to know whether Nissan quality had gone downhill as I've heard in many places. Not looking at Nissan at all now!
Great video .. I had a Nissan Altima 2016 & the build quality was less than exceptional. Seats would rip easy because of fake leather . Motor mounts go out pretty early , moisture in headlights , weak suspension parts ,.. & last but not least Transmission failure. .. Best thing in that car was the engine .. with that being said .. I now own a 2018 Infiniti Q50 . I didn’t give up on Nissan just yet .. I would honestly say other than the GTR this is the second best car Nissan makes to date.. It’s equipped with a smooth twin turbo 3.0 liter V6 & I’m extremely happy with my purchase , 🎉 owned the car for 3 years with 0 issues .. not bloody CVT & the build quality is very good .
I had a Nissan "Bluebird" that lasted 30 years. And Carlos Ghosn got screwed by JP. But in general, Honda and Toyota make better cars and I'd not buy a Nissan again.
It is a shame Nissan hasn't responded better, and hasn't forced Jatco to correct the design of their CVT. I did, however, recently purchase a Nissan Versa - I liked the fairly tried and true naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine (no turbo). These are getting hard to find as the other manufacturers are switching to 3 cylinder turbos in their economy models. I just made sure to do the searching necessary to find a manual transmission model of Versa. I've had it a couple of months now, and LOVE it. Fantastic gas mileage (42-43+ MPG), and it's fun to drive for a generally low powered car. I expect this Nissan to last for as long as I care to own it, and most mechanic reviews seem to support this expectation.
Make sure to replace the transmission fluid very regularly. But you do know that nearly all hybrid cars use fairly basic engines without a turbocharger? Some don't even use direct injection. Statistically, the most reliable type of vehicle is a hybrid, then a normal ICE car, then an EV, and then a plugin hybrid.
good job with the car man! hope you enjoy the heck out of it, my first car was an 1990 Corolla and man did I drive that thing to the ground loll loved it tho. economy cars have a special place in my heart. thanks for watching!
In a small economy car, these transmissions are fine. In a heavy, AWD SUV… that is where all the problems occur. As for a turbocharged, AWD SUV… forget it!… Guaranteed failure!!!
😂😂 no actually thanks for this insight cause that’s what I’m going for! Wanted to test a different aesthetic. Looks like we are going back to beige. Thanks cursed!!!
Reselling them does not have to be a headache. Just trade it in for whatever you can get. Preferably do it before you start having problems. If for some reason it is worth nothing as a trade, get all of your personal belongings out of it and take it to the scrap yard. You will need the title for that vehicle to do this.
Aisin makes Toyota's CVT's. Corolla uses a set of gears to launch the car before going to the belt. Toyota's other CVT's are ECVT's witch use motors instead of a belt. I think Subaru makes their own CVT and aren't nearly as good at the Aisin. They are very limited with HP and have had a lot of problems. If you a little rough on the car, the CVT eats itself. I'm surprised the Jeep engines held up long enough for the Jatco CVT to go out. All CTV's suck for driving in traffic. You need to learn how to drive differently and I'm not willing to do it again. Once you set the cruise I liked the CVT, driving in town and in traffic I couldn't ignore the sloppiness and weirdness of it. Of course, Toyota's 8-speed is a piece of junk with serious problems too. Toyota has had problems with that transmission from day one and even had to be sued to patch it. So, what does Toyota do? Puts the 8-speed transmission in the new Tacoma and the problems continue.
I will never buy any vehicle with a CVT transmission what's wrong with a manual gearbox in my 1997 Toyota Hilux still has its original 5 speed gearbox and its still works as for normal automatic transmissions there reliable also but l have owned one automatic transmission car that l had problems with were all my manual gearboxes no problems manual the way to go and changing you own gears so easy but now manual gearboxes are an anti theft device

CVTs work fine, people just need to change the fluids regularly
just would have been nice if the big players at Nissan were more transparent 😵💫
It doesn't help that CVTs are basically non-repairable. If a unit fails, it cannot reasonably be rebuilt; it must be replaced.
the high llama has spoken, they are not repairable!! no but honestly, im with you there. im skeptical of them
