I worked at one of the 2 delorean dealers in Ohio in the 80s, we sold 23 cars, I drove every one, with a manuel trans they were ok, they did handle well, it was not a bad car 2 things doomed it, they could not get the engine they wanted, was going to be a rotary made by GM, that was never made, the 2nd thing was they just ran out of money and could not get anyone to fund it (except drug traffickers), I will say in John Deloreans defense he never used drugs or sold them it was a last resort to get financing for the car company
If you look at running costs modern cars are way worse. Back in the day you could just switch a 1.99 lightbulb or a 5,99 mirror glass. You break one of these things on a modern car and it will cost you hundreds. Modern cars are WAY crapier than almost any car from the 80's. And than I am not even talking about electric cars which, once the market has settled and people have figured it out, will be worthless after just 6-7 years. You thought cars like the Peugeot 605 or Alfa 166 depreciated fast? Electric cars will depreciate even faster than that. Modern cars are only good if you have a large bank account.
Have a buddy that told me it would cost I’m $220 from a shop to fix a window chip on his windshield due to all the electronics from the inside. You’re definitely not wrong
1980s cars also broke down constantly. They were cheaper to fix but left you stranded on the side of the road way more often. It was a miracle if you got 100,000 miles out of any American car.
Couldn't agree more! all fluff coming out these days; assisted driving tech, synthetic driving feel, loaded toys & gadgets, gimmicks to the brim.. I could go on.. But I believe that the art of driving and the pure analogue feel & experience seems totally lost in cars these days
The Pinto was a death trap at a time when any small car was pretty much a death trap. Statistically, the death rate was similar to something like a Chevette or Gremlin and better than the VW Beetle, Toyota, or Honda from the time.
God I loath Ai. Oh, and another huge part of the Chrysler TC blunder was that it was supposed to come out in 86… before the Lebaron . Instead it was delayed and the lebaron was launched first . So I don’t think I need to say anything more
Very inconsistent pronunciation of vehicle names: Chrysler, Cimmaron, Renault. And, at 4:50, what does "meant that it cost around 80 Kos" mean? "Kos"????
Yugo your way
And I'll go mini
😂😂😂 I laughed too hard at this

*except drug traffickers* 😂
Fair enough. Wild times in those days for funding
The PINTO was a 1970s car...
in fairness to the yugo every one knew it was cheap crap. it was cheaper then a used car. being disposable WAS its selling point
The Pinto really shouldn't be in the list of 80s car. It's a real stretch even with your facts. It was replaced in the 80s by the poorly built Escort.

@@themidcentrist agreed
I don't care if the DeLorean is heavy, cramped, slow, and unreliable, I still want one.
You can always LS swap it!
iconic car indeed!
I actually saw one of the Chrysler/Maserati cars about two weeks ago.
Wow! That’s surprising!! Was it kept in good condition?
Why is the Pinto being called a 1980s car?
I was built through 1980
We can’t all be perfect
Compared to today's overpriced overcomputerized crap, 80s cars were great!
Too hard to work on modern cars these days!
Worst cars ever made are being made now.....

Worst thing about new cars in my opinion is they make it impossible now to work on with all the computer components
@@AdoptedHistory 80s cars were better than mid to late 70s and todays cars.

Couple that with bad fuel tank design and collisions were really bad
I had my tongue hanging out for a Chrysler LeBaron; I’m relieved I didn’t get one.
So which car did you get?! I’m curious 😄
@@AdoptedHistory it was my first car; 90s Saturn SL1 (which soon died from tranny failure)
You left out the Adobe! "hey, hey! We're Adobe! The little car that's made out of clay!"
you know the pintos safety issues could be fixed for about $20 at the time and a couple hours in the driveway.
A guy around the corner from me in Dublin still drives his Yugo and swears by it
Kind of makes me wish I had one too! Only smaller cars I see here in the US are Fiats

Have gotten lots of comments about ai.. next video and videos thereafter will be my own voice. Thanks for watching tho!
Wow this AI channel goes hard.
Lol. Worst pronunciation ever!

...failed to LIE V up to the HYPIE....... INTRODUCE ED as a FRON T wheel drive
I wonder why the Yugo didn't get an A 110 Abarth engine. I mean 72 HP for under 10 000$ ....New! Unbeatable.
Some would say a steal!
AI voiceover keeps naming the cars a different way. You would think it would at least be consistently wrong or right.
Once again the Fiero is left out and forgotten. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing?
😅🤣

thanks for the feedback!
The Cinnamon (which is what I call it) didn’t look ANYTHING like a freakin’ Cadillac! It was just an overpriced Chevy Citation that knew somebody.
I rode in a friend's dad's Maserati TC when it came out. Very comfortable ride and nice interior, but it looked too much like a Lebaron.
Did it live up to your expectations at the time?
@AdoptedHistory It did, but I didnt buy it. I would've gotten a LeBaron without the Italian motor and saved $20k.
every decade has its flops, its nowhere near specific to the 80s.70s had pinto and mustang 2, 90s had the first Hyundai which were junk etc.
very true, no car will ever please 100% consumers
No one was ever fooled by the Cimmarron
Couldn’t be us! 😂
Notice the film speed used to make that Chev's acceleration look like that of a Tesla😂
Gotta do what you gotta do 😂
Fuego was a nice looking car
🔥 interesting look car too lol
French car design is just weird.
4:23 the wood panel. I want this car so bad. How much?!
If I had it, I wouldn’t sell it!
I'm surprised that dodge k cars are not on this list
I had a 1988 dodge k car.
Apparently it's the worst car ever made.
Maybe I’ll feature it in a ‘runner up’ video lol
Why don't they say anything about the Ford caliente
😮😮
