- When we talk about SS memories, mashke or ice kenkey is definitely one that can’t be left out. I will tell you one annoying thing about me. In Archbishop Porter Girls’ Secondary School, we kept our provisions in our chop boxes; and they were stored in rooms that were opened only on certain days of the week. So we always took a little bit of essentials like gari, sugar, milk, shito and cookies out…hopefully enough till the next time the chop box room was opened. If I happened to ran out of milk, then I’m certainly not eating mashke or soakings till I can get some from my chop box. If any of my friends invited me to a bowl of mashke or soakings, my unfailing question was “is there milk in it?” Ohiani a oni koko) 😃😃. Even the real dadabees would settle but not me.😌 I hope you can agree when I say “eny3 sikanii yonko me preman nii”
Anyway someone requested mashke recipe since she needs to boost her milk production for her twins, and so here it is😘😘😘

This looks soooooo delicious! I have never seen nor heard of this. I’m Caribbean and at first I thought it was sour sop ( a fruit we grow here). I am making a note of this to try it one day.
Yes we do eat sour sop and make smoothies with them too. Kenkey is made from cornmeal. I hope you get to taste it someday.

@@joycegayden44 you can look for Fante kenkey the wrapping is more green brown not yellow like a GA kenkey (the cover, wrapping of Ga kenkey it’s more on the yellow side ) at the African store . Please note it’s Fante kenkey. You buy it you bring it home n mash it up with some ice cubes n ice water in a blender then add evaporated milk n sugar n then you are good to go. You can refrigerate whatever you are not ready to eat then. I hope this helps
