    NIce little lick... explanation of what's happening would be super-nice too, e.g. fm7 arp, EbM6 arp in first bar over Cm, etc. Thank you!

    Hi i'm new to jazz! Could you explain why the first chord is labelled Dm7b5 instead of Fm7? My classical brain reads F in bass and an fm7 arpeggio in the right hand and... an odd 6/13 in the left hand as well? Thank you and i enjoyed the video

      This is one of “2-5-1 Chord Progressions” which is “IIm7 - V7 - IM7” Progression.
      Especially, this one is minor 2-5-1, so the chords are “IIm7(b5) - V7(b9) - Im7”, because we usually use “Harmonic minor”. (If “Melodic minor”, could be Im6 or ImM7. And we often mix them all, Natural, Harmonic, and Melodic, ;D so that we can use Im7.)
      The first chord of first measure is IIm7(b5) of C minor key, which ls Dm7(b5). So the bass/Root should be “D”, but this voicing is “Rootless”, which means we can omit “Root” of the chords and play other chord tones and tensions with left hand. Or we can play inversion of the chord with left hand.

      The first chords’ F=b3, C=b7, D=Root of Dm7(b5).
      The second chord’s F=b7, B=3, D=5 of G7(b9).
      The third chord’s Eb=b3, A=6, C=Root of Cm6.
