Do you recommend a 7950x3D or the 7800x3D for gaming? I’ve got a 7950X right now, but feel like the 7800x3D would be better since I really only use the computer for gaming.

    • @LupusAries
      @LupusAries 11 месяцев назад

I agree the bigger GPU gives you more fps in 1440p and 4k gaming....with exceptions.
      For example in Arma 3, a 5800X3D or a 7800X3D is worth more than a 4090.
We've seen people with 4090s barely braking 60 fps, meanwhile....I got triple digit frames in Arma 3 for the first time, with a 5800X3D and the Average and medium went from 62 and 61 to 92 and 97.8. This is where the P95 and P99 used to be and that result was with the computer solidly in the GPU limit, due to me still using the 2060 for tests.
And DCS prefers having both a strong CPU with 3D Cache and a strong GPU, with lots of VRAM. And 64GB of RAM and definately an NVME SSD.
Assetto Corsa, still the most popular racing sim by far, needs a 3D Cache CPU, the GPU has pretty much no impact.
ACC (Asetto Corsa Competizione) scales well with the 3D Cache. Again leading to bigger improvements.
Kingdome Come Deliverance scales insanely well with at least DDR4-3600 RAM, an NVME drive and a 3D Cache CPU.
Minimum fps in my case doubled when going from an i5-6600k to a 5800X3D, and that was from running the i5-6600k @4.3 ghz, with a 970 Evo Plus 2TB Pcie 3.0 NVME drive and DDR4-3600 RAM. And that test was with the 2060 instead of the 7900XT, that test comes later. (same config used for all my other tests)
MSFS according to tests is one where the 5800X3D beat everything and the 7800X3D continues to do so. Interestingly in the Tests by PCGames Hardware a german hardware magazine (both in print and as a website) the OC models of 7900XTX and 7900XT and beat the ASUS OC model of the 4090 (the TUF model).
In short any game where there's a lot going on under the hood (AI, Physics, lots of very repetitive calculations) will profit massively from an X3D, which might very well offset any gain from a bigger GPU.

I don’t understand why people are against having a stronger CPU. The price jump from the 7700 to the 7800X3D is a little over $100 normally and like $80 at the current prices.
The jump from the 7800 xt to the 7900 XT is $300.
The jump from the 4070 to the 4070 Ti is $200.
May as well get the better CPU and leave headroom for future upgrades when the prices are that close.
I bought the 5600x for my 3060Ti and regret it. Now I’m having to upgrade my CPU as well as my GPU whereas if I just went with the 5800x3d from jump I could have stuck with it.
Same with the “sweet spot” for ram. First it was 8gb, then 16gb, now it’s getting to be 32gb.
Component requirements will always creep upwards and the standard today will be obsolete tomorrow.
Unless you truly can’t afford it go with the upper mid range 800 class components and then you won’t have to upgrade anything for at least 2-3 years.

It makes no goddamn sense how they shipped either of those two in that state. Meanwhile in a game like Forspoken, the game just chugs if you don't have more than 8GB of VRAM. Because that's the normal behavior, the game starts dipping into system ram which is far slower.

Your points are totally valid. There is also a case to be made for piece mealing your upgrades. For example, I'm upgrading to an i7 13700k and a Z690 (upgrading from a 5600x). However, i wont be upgrading my GPU (3080 10Gb) for at least the next 6 months as the prices are still crazy in europe. For example, a 'cheap' 4080 on Amazon is €1332 ($1440 USD)

Personally I'd invest in a better gpu to pair with that CPU

I have same combo and waiting for next generation of grafic cards. 3080Ti is still perfectly fine for gaming in 1440p.

The 4070Ti is perfect for screens, but for VR take a more powerful card.

I’m planning on building a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with a B650 gigabyte mobo and 7900XTX 24Gb GPU. What are your thoughts on those?

Check the AMD website and read what 7900xtx can use

Tend to leapfrog tech in my builds. Currently running a 3080 on a 9900k, great pairing imo, but I'm gonna get the 7800x3d on x670e with 6000mzh ram for the next phase an when I get a 5080 (I assume it'll be called that) it'll be pretty much perfect. Again. Yes I'll be gpu bound for a year or two, but there's always gonna be a limiting factor.
