Surely that was a bit of a dishonest bit of information you put out there. The original version was by Dillard & Clark but to say it was “It was written by Gene Clark” is only half true and makes it look like the Eagles’ version is nothing more than a cover but in fact the song was written by Gene Clark and Bernie Leadon, who was one of the forming members of the Eagles and the one who sang lead vocals on their version. As for the Dillard and Clark version being far superior, that's your opinion but it's something I disagree with. I like the Dillard & Clark version, the musicianship is fantastic. I just prefer the Eagles version, at least the studio version from the album. It’s more subdued, giving it an almost aimless quality which seems to get to the true heart of the song better, like the guy is a bit rudderless, if not quite lost. The whole song seems to tell more of a story. It’s also far better vocally in my opinion. Having Randy Meisner's vocal running parallel to Leadon's voice, effectively sitting above it, is a truly beautiful thing. The harmonies are better overall too, although the harmonies in the Dillard and Clark original are great too. When it comes to harmonies, I'd put the Eagles above every other band out there, Beach Boys included. The final bit of train-sounding vocal harmonisaiton is just a perfect end to the song, too. The live performances, I’m not that crazy about as I think Leadon preferred to make it as much of a jam session as possible, every live performance different to the last, lots of guitar solos, ten minutes long if at all possible, that sort of thing. Some people like that, I just prefer the purity of the studio version.

Never heard this song before but absolutely love it and Bernie too. But now I'm really shocked you looked like regular American guys but you recorded this in Terhran? I never dreamed our kind of music would ever be played in a crap hole country like Iran. Sorry to blast your country but I'm shocked that you guys were allowed to do this especially after Iran just executed a world champion wrestler....I pray you all stay safe. You could make a living in the free world....
Dead? I am not sure about it. I agree harmonies were great in the Eagles original and also Dillard and Clark version. This is good as well. Just my opinion
Very nice cover indeed. Solos in the middle were very appropriate BUT the penta-like riff (and similarly at the fine') was just a little too stretched from the country-folk-rock feel of the rest of the arrangement. The ornament liberties taken by the lead vocalist were perfectly tasteful and appropriate to the feel. Bass player was in the pocket with his subdivisions. I'm sure the "with/without vox harmonies" would always be a popular question. But the arrangement genuinely doesn't seem to suffer from their choice to not add harmonies. I was genuinely surprised when I clicked on it. Expecting to hear a sloppy, cell phone recording of 4 guys flogging away at steel string guitars, instead hearing some really good stuff. Tone down the blues riffs..😉
What a gem. Music in purity. Beautiful clear notes.
Why does this not have more views? This is excellent!
Probably because if you search for this band it doesn't come up, seems like everything but it comes up.
The Eagles is a cover too. The original is the far superior Dillard and Clark. It was written by Gene Clarke.
Gene Clark and Eagle Bernie Leadon, to be precise.

Actually, the Eagles version is a cover of the original song, by Gene Clark (Byrds).
@@wbagehot1973 .........w/ Doug Dillard, .......from The Darlings, on Andy of Mayberry !!!
@@wbagehot1973 To be precise, a song by former Byrd Gene Clark and pre-Eagle Bernie Leadon.

Awesome but without the backing vocals/harmonies it's dead!!!

sounds good. A tad too fast.
PS, can't hear the harmonies on the mix
