    Pretty useful for preserved railways now. During the hot summers that have been regularly visiting the rainy and windswept UK, a fire engine would be pretty useful putting out those line side fires. Especially If it's the middy. Farmland can be particularly problematic, not just from a fire perspective but from a damage, and legal work perspective.

    Definitely excellent rationales. I almost bought a W50 after the GDR collapse. There is one issue with owning one: you need a suitable space to put it...same goes for surplus MIG-21s which were then sitting around derelict - in the center of Berlin!

    8 reasons why you shouldn't buy a fire engine for me;
    1. Nowhere to store it
    2. Cost of fuel
    3. Obtaining the correct licence to drive it.

    Regarding the hire thing you can actually sign it up to a register for TV and movie vehicles which allows either TV or film companies requiring certain vehicles from certain periods to be hired out either as background or as a actual star vehicle for a programme or film. Do you need an HGV MOT every year for this? I have a 1972 HGV and this still has to go for a test every year just like a new one - because it was made after 1960.
    I know that fire engines have exemptions but your vehicle is not still used in active service so wondered where it stands?
    There’s a lot of confusion because the online Road tax submission allows you to say your vehicle is MOT exempt; many historic HGV owners don’t realise it is asking the owner to verify, the DVLC aren’t doing this. VOSA can impound the vehicle if they think it should have an MOT.
