This series started off strong, then slowly started dying. A 30 minute finale is wild. I was super let down 😢
Yeah what happened lol it got so bad and ended so weak
Felt the same way. Thought it would go into more horror mystery after the first few episodes, and it never did. By the end i was completely checked out. Don't think i'll make it for season 2
Thats the same way readers felt when reading the book.
As it was getting real good, I wanted to see how much was left, and it was 16 min. It was so irritating cus it’s not enough for a finale. I agree.
Me too
29 mins for finale and we still don’t see Brian living 😭😭😭 they could’ve kept that actually 😭 I don’t think there will be a season 2 and if they do , they go longer
La'Keith turned off his comments on IG because he knew the 💩 storm that was headed his way. Lol
Book reader here…I’m almost positive there will be a season 2. There is still a lot to cover from where the series ended and the back end of the book covers a lot and moves quickly.
Yes a 30 minute finale sucks but anything more would have ruined a second season imo.
I read that it is supposed to be a two season series, hopefully it is renewed and we get answers.
@@Bayoubellalathen they should’ve just made episode 7 include the 30 mins of episode 8. Separating them made it seem lackluster😅
Disappointed in the finale. The story telling was weak and vague and unsatisfying in almost every way. Bummed
Similar issue as with American Gods. Trying to dangle things and drag one book out over multiple seasons, instead of finishing a compelling story and then building off that in a second season. I like what both Silo and Good Omens did instead.
I'd almost forgotten how amazing American gods was the first season
@@wanjiku6695 Season 1 was so good. Just imagine if they would've finished the war and then season 2 could've been an anthology of the other characters like Laura, Mad Sweeney, Mr. Nancy, and Shadow fighting Grendel?
Every time I watched this show I would think I’m either watching one of the best most creative shows or this is the worst show I have ever seen. After this finale I feel like I waisted my time for real. That was silly of the show to reference her third wish in the recap and not even offer answers.
Nah fr they reminded us of all our questions only to ignore them
I mean did we even get what the 3rd wish really was. I feel like I didn’t. And if it’s in the book & will be in s2 then it’s fine don’t tell me 😅 bc I don’t want big spoilers but if it was in fact within s1 then wth..why didn’t they just say it in that flashback at the beginning of the finale episode.
This show reminded me so much of Servant. Not only for the fact of focusing on a dead baby, but also starting off super strong then getting super weird with no sense of closure. Now that I think of it, I dont even remember what happened at the end of Servant and I watched it😒.
I thought the same thing, and surprised more people haven't brought it up. Servant was worth watching even if it went down hill, this, was basically well shot nonsense with just enough intrigue to get me to finish it.
@@elikerr785 best description ever...well shot nonsense🤣🤣🤣
Omg what s great comparison, spot on
The monster was disappointing and out of nowhere. The story is still plunging fourth but no answers. It’s annoying. It reminds me of that series From, the storyline keeps building still no answers.
Game of thrones was like that for awhile
It def reminds me of From, but I like that show more. I found this too disappointing
@@ruskinblack6755eh not really
Please don’t even mention From 😡😡😡😡😡 … That’s me watching From and trying to forget the fact that it’s from the creators of lost. 😢😢😢😢it’s never gonna answer anything without more questions
Yes definitely from
I will try to remember I really enjoyed episodes 1-6. The show had real potential...but damn...what in the hell were those last 2 episodes? I'm ok with letting the mysteries remain unknown, season 2 not needed.
Again for the last time I was so hyped for this but after the finale again WTF IS GOING ON
episode 7 was a major let down.
they could have passed on all of that to cover what they did in ep 8, leaving room for a more interesting finale.
too many attempts for cliffhangers made this appear rushed and almost sloppy.
I was gasping out loud when I thought the babies were bombed. I couldn’t believe it ended like that!!!! They sure have me on edge with soooooo many questions so I guess I know what book I will be reading next.
The show started off SO STRONG to me but the last 3 episodes let me down. The pacing is soooo slow in those episodes. I still hope there's a season 2 cause I need to know what happened.
Road to nowhere. This is just the kind of show suitable for writers strikes.
I was completely sucked in by the first five episodes of this series. Unfortunately, they lost all momentum with the Kinder Garten reveal by putting two episodes in that do little to push the plot forward. Episode 7 is probably the biggest non-sequitur I've ever seen in a TV series; I found myself feeling annoyed with Lillian's character after watching. Bowtie that with an absolutely underwhelming finale and my interest in season 2 has been lost.
Yes, the 7th episode was the worst. I couldn’t enjoy it cus I don’t feel like it connected to anything
Episode 7 was the best imo
What's the purpose of Cal asking Apollo not to board the boat with others, but then let Apollo went away with a small boat alone when she fought with William? That part is totally non-sense to me.
The big boat attracted the attention of the creature
im pretty sure the small boat leads to emma
im pretty sure the small boat leads to emma
So sad in the last two episodes. I actually enjoyed episode 7 but it was oddly placed in my opinion. Doubt I’ll be back for season 2. I’ll most likely listen to YT videos about it if/when the season ends.
Having recently finished reading this book, I also do not understand how they are going to make a 2nd season. Season 1 covered about 350 of the 400 pages.
The book, like the show, has problems. There are maybe too many ideas crammed into one story, and the loose ends do not tie into a satisfactory bow in the end. Still, it was an entertaining enough book that did provoke interesting thoughts about parenthood and family relationships.
LaValle's Black Tom novella was a good Halloween read too.
So the monster just dove in the water but the boat still got away?! What?!😅😅
The monster threw a tree at the boat.
@@NviGWarren Oh, ok couldn't see that clear. Too dark . Makes sense
@@NviGWarren If the monster threw a tree why did Cal tell Apollo the big one can swim?
@@mikejones-wy5hv The big one can swim. I thought it was the monster at first too, but how can it be in the water and on the cliff at the same time. There is only one monster on the island. I believe.
@@NviGWarren There has to be more than one monster. Saying "the big one" can swim means there must also be a smaller one. A distinction in size has been established.
Did you guys catch the World Wide Web reference?
William’s full name is William Webster Wheeler.

The internet troll feeder 😂🤣
This series is maddening
There really is a tradition in Salvador - Bahia of the three nots representing each a wish, but it's mostly for tourists, I love the fact that they made a story based on it
I’m so confused! Around episode 5 I was like it’s too many questions to be answered in the next 3 episodes. The sister is in on? The mother killed the father? She was with her boss? Apollo gets the box delivered by who? 🤦🏽♀️😞Frustrating
This show was so promising in episodes 1&2. After that...um
Thanks for the in-depth breakdown and connecting dots!
Alright, people listen up!😂
I could have handled the short episode if......
Firstly, during the flashback at the start, they should have stated what Emma's third wish was, even though we pretty much know what it is.
Secondly, at the end, when Apollo finally starts to find his strength again, I would have loved to see his character end the season with a golden/fiery glow in his eyes as he starts to awaken for season 2.
How many times have we heard him say, ''I'm the God Apollo?''
Emma's been glowing for days, haha😂.
Both scenes could have been enhanced with these two simple things, but instead, they build it up just to let us down.
Well what is her 3rd cause I fasho don’t know
@@elijahhutchings7947 Well, her best friend said to Apollo at dinner that Emma's 3 wishes were
1. A good husband,
2. A healthy baby,
3.....pauses and without betraying Emma's trust, mentions the photo, and says,'she looked like a fn sorceress'.
E08 starts off with the recap, and the narration talks about the wishes again. As the narration talks about the third wish, the scene switches to Emma glowing as a sorceress / witch.
Without the show showing us the exact wish, my deductions from all the scenes of Emma would be that she asked for power or to be like the washer lady.
@@SlothClimbingTeam If Emma's third wish was for power or to be like the washer lady what was her reason for wanting that?
Pretty sure third wish was for a “life full of adventure”
You must have read the book. I wish they would have just went with the book storyline rather than trying to get multiple seasons out of this story.
That makes sense
Correct
"a life like a fairytale"
I too am so frustrated by the unanswered questions that I am losing interest because I feel like season two will undoubtedly do more of the same without it moving the story forward, and I’ll just move onto another show
No one understands this show and it's hilarious I will say Emma's third wish is Emma's desire for thrill and excitement in her life
Pay the writers the strike really showing
😂🤣
They have left so many threads unanswered that there really can only be 2 seasons . They have to answer all these questions now in season 2 and then there will be no answers left …. I feel like this could be a show but they have went about it all wrong . They could’ve At least Told us her 3rd wish !
Its bad when you have a finale and no one is anticipating the next season lol
Can I reclaim my time 7hrs and 29mins invested in this horrendous show!
3rd wish is adventure and excitement I think
The 3rd wish was A Life Of Adventure, lol.
guess i’m gonna have to buy the book now
A 5min review for a 5min episode 😅
This story was all over the place and you had to keep your eyes open for every single scene, I hope next season if there is one, they could wrap it up.....
This series had potential, but delving into the backstories of secondary characters and dedicating entire episodes to individuals like Apollo's mother, Lillian, caused it to stray from the main plot, making it easy to lose track. I understand the desire to leave viewers wanting more, but they went overboard, and the story lost its direction. Most of this could have been condensed into a single episode. Those cliffhangers with unanswered questions? Not cool. If a second season is on the horizon, they need to regroup and bring the narrative together. It's a bit of a letdown. 🎬😎
I liked it. There is not one recipe to get a good first season. If it has you wanted to know more it did the job. You just said you didn’t read the book so of course you have questions and they have added stuff to make a 400 page book a couple of seasons. Enjoy
Please post some movies you recommend❤❤ I’ve never seen Silo so I’m about to watch that now .. thank you 🎉
So right about Silo
This series is a lot deeper than the plot story ..its about how we share on social media and how it opens the doors to all creatures of the night ..I can't wait for season 2
No it isn't it's about law and the bible, when you are born a legal person is also created as printed on the birth certificate, however most people don't know this and identify as the dead fictional entity on the birth certificate, which is a baby but it is not a baby. The world the word child and infant are legal terms and they do not mean an actual living baby, just like the word person does not mean a man or a woman with live flesh and blood, corporations are persons they are dead fictional entities
Wow glad I didn’t watch the past 3 episodes. Kind of knew they wouldn’t wrap it up this season
the bell 32 seconds in jump scared me
I thought the story started out very captivating. I ended up binge watching this over a couple of days. I will say I am interested in knowing how Apollo’s mother is somehow connected. Something tells me that she has made a deal with somebody as well, and I’m not sure if that’s how even a Palo met Emma has some sort of contract in a weird way I don’t know. I’m also interested if they continue this past season two and do a different story book.
So many people in my FB discussion group for this show were very upset with the length of the final episode and lack of answers.
I literally also thought about Central Park 😂😂😂
you nailed it , they didn't answer anything and just confused us even more. Not worth watching a second season IMO
Another super frustrating aspect if there is a connection between the Norwegian ship and baby brain then why are they saying Lester was the father instead of Brain who was a descendant ofNorway super disappointed , makes me not want to finish the book
I am confused and left with so many questions😐
2 eps loved it..at after that inwas mad at myself for wanting to finish
Half way through this season, I was tempted to leave it. There were too many branches to hold on to and I couldn’t keep up. I feel like it was too much for Apollo to try to figure out as well. I wonder if it got a wide enough audience to even qualify for a 2nd season. It literally had me exhausted by the last episode.
I was hoping you would explain why the opening scene change from 30 men to 52 Men and Women sailed out of Norway?
My guess would be those 22 women were sacrificed as witches maybe? I have no idea though.
Some excellent points in this vid as always!!
Firstly, as someone who has read the book, William’s (kinda garten’s) motivation in the story is so gotdang disgusting and absolutely cements him as a villain. His character is truly a dick.
Secondly, not everything is as it appears to be. That glamour ability can and is used much more often, especially in the third act of the book so the reptilian-appearing eye makes me sus 🤨
Thirdly, the final part of the book introduces one major key character that plays an enormous role in the story. So if my suspicions are true-I believe that season 2 will be relying heavily on this new person and their relationship to the other characters (in particular kinda Garten and the mom).
Overall, I agree with you in that there are more questions than answers in the series and the book was much more straightforward in comparison.
Hopefully they can turn it around next season. 🤷🏽♀️
how far along in the book is this first series??
@@babygirldixon6799 That's the thing. Season 1 covered about 350 of the 400 pages. I don't understand why there would be a 2nd season.
Yup, they covered pretty much 95% in this first season.
They stopped right before the final act of the story.
That leads me to believe that they plan to stretch out the character development of a few new characters-one in particular.
But looks like next season is going to be another slooooooowwwww burn. 😔
The last few seconds must be tease for part 2 or s2
I held out hope until we got to episode 7, which threw me off completely and the finale was way too rushed. I really never liked Emma enough as a character to be very invested in the show, either. Everyone else was great, I can’t decide if it was her acting or the script or what, but she seemed very hollow to me.
I expected them to leave us on a cliffhanger and with more questions but the way they started the episode with the recap focusing on the journey across the see and the focus on Emma and her 3rd wish and then proceeding to show us something totally different 😒
I like that they are introducing more fairy like creatures and a more supernatural eliment to the show but i wish it was fleshed out a little bit more and with more time. This episode felt a little rushed. Especially when Apollo suddenly was at the grave and already digged up the baby. Then he was suddenly in a hole/cave being eyeballed by a monster.
I do have great hopes and expectations for next season tho but i do hope the plan to start answering the many questions they have left us with this season
Well that was a waste of time. Perhaps someone forgot to upload the second half of the final episode.
Read the book 😊
The book was better made sense.
The book was alright. It had problems too.
Definitely @@bschuler6216
I'm thinking that maybe the creatures are a play off Jörmungandr based on Norse mythology even though Jörmungandr is singular. 🤷
I rushed to read the book after episode 1 but the book was…meh. The story itself is very straightforward but the author tries so hard for that eerie, unknowable vibe that the ending feels…hollow.
Haven’t continued the series but wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how the finale comes across.
☝️ Pretty much agree with you. I read LaValle's interconnected short story book, Slap Boxing With Jesus, and found his voice to be interesting.
Then I read the novella, Black Tom, which was his answer to Lovecraft's The Horror At Red Hook, and found it pretty good.
Sowhen I saw that a streaming service I do not, nor will be, subscribe[d] to, I decided to read this. It was entertaining enough, with some good, insightful family drama. But, all in all, it had too many ideas and loose ends.
The show tries too hard too
Surrealist shows tend to be letdowns for me and not finish strong. I’ll wait for spoilers before going down this path again with this genre.
The questions that were left unanswered is obviously setting us up for a season 2.
I do agree. The finale could have been longer, but it was actually still exciting visually.
I ended the finale and said wtf loudly.
I’m glad I read the book bc I would of been disappointed w the season finale. At this point there’s not even much left in the book idk how they could stretch that out into a season of its own. I read the book and was still annoyed I couldn’t see what I read on screen it did leave viewers with a lot of questions. So to end w a 30 min season finale and after two filler episodes was a let down.
How was that the last episode??? There’s got to be a #9?
This show hooked me and my scaredy-cat cat partner. He tapped out mid season and I stuck through it. Episode 7 confused me and the finale was bleh. 😂
The last 2 episode did it for me. I will just read a summary of the book and forget the show
I have never read the book, as it’s not in a genre I generally read much, and I finished this with major questions on what I watched?
Okay. It’s given they shout Episodes 1-3 and they got word the strike would take place in 3 days and rushed to shoot the remaining episodes. ATP, IDGAF where Baby Brian is….what is the damn 3 wish? She low key probably asked for an adventurous life. Wish 101: Be ye specific! 😂
It started off brilliantly, however I wish it would of focused on the wishes that she made and not brining all the other aspects such as the island and all the other characters. But I guess it’s based on a novel. The last two episodes were so underwhelming and the 26 min finale was insane. Not too sure his I feel about it all.
Sincerely, I just followed the series out of obligation that i started something, the dots are to many to have just a 29min for a finale.
Maybe i need to read the real book
who knows where i can get it
It got so confusing at the end and I agree about Silo
And why does Cal need to kill herself after killing William? Why wouldn't she just climb down the cliff and join Apollo on his tiny little boat and paddle away?
It was good just short and it’s obvious they held back so much so they could make another season
I don’t think anyone here has seen it, but this reminded me a lot of the Swedish tv series Jordskott. It also started as a more classic horror story with some psychological elements and a personal tragedy. But eventually Swedish folklore was added. Unfortunately the last couple of episodes were disappointing and underwhelming, kind of like this tv series.
The end got me tight 😡
I won't recommend this to anybody. Found this to be extremely disappointing. No answers given and just kind of cheesy. I really didnt enjoy the final 2 eps
You said the ship only contains men. Doesn't the opening said: 52 men and women?
I hate a show with amazing visuals but no questions are ever answered I don’t want another from or lost
Alot of these shows are meandering messes....
It's a kraken, since I doubt trolls lives in water even in the mythos of trolls
The 3rd wish i think is a life if adventure nd also where is all the monsters
I stopped watching on episode 4 because the book is not that long. I knew after that episode, that they were making it longer than it needed to be. Ill just read it
I loved this show but the last episode gave me we ran out of ideas vibe ……I hope we learn the truth
After last weeks episode this one deserves an Emmy
Despite being out of no where, episode 7 was a really good performance
Not at all imo. This show was good up until episode 5 and then it started go downhill with agenda driven nonsense and just weak story telling.
I watched all 8 videos and I have no idea what just jappened.
I fucking love this show im huge fans of the four main actors as is soo too them in one show like crack too me esp “emna and her fine ass sister” casting is incredibl
Silo wins hands-down.
It could be nidhog the Norse mythology other dragon. Or it could be another Norse mythology creatures and lean wyrms creatures that. Are the children of nidhog or it could be a kraken.
Stopped watching after episode 10 minutes into episode 7. And I do not regret that decision. This is toying with peoples feelings.
How did the show confuse me more every episode that passed? 😂😂😂 This show make "From" look like it makes sense.
This movie is all over the place.
The series is good but I won’t lie it’s hella confusing
I thought the 3rd wish was for a life full of adventure
We actually dont know anything about Apolo, his mom, his dad, emma, william, baby brian. Nothing.
It had so much potential ...what happened, i was honestly so lost and bored by the end ....
I feel like I only watch this show to listen to your commentary. It’s more interesting than the show.
We know brian is I. Forest hills nyc. Fairy land. That we know
💯
I found the entire series so confusing I never could understand much and that for me made it not very enjoyable
