I am 75 and I really enjoy watching your videos. You and Danny remind me so much of what my grandparents were like. They had a homestead out in the country, no electricity, indoor plumbing and a woodstove. Grandma cooked food just like you. My older brother, sister and myself lived with them (my grandma delivered all 3 of us kids at home) We finally got electricity in 1959 no phone until 1964. My grandfather had built an underground cellar to keep food cold. I remember they used big blocks of ice to help out until we finally got a butane refrigerator in the late 50's. Nothing was purchased from the store except coffee, flour and sugar. Everything we needed was from the garden, fruit trees, chickens, pigs, 2 cows a 3 beef cattle and a few goats with occasionally a deer would come through the orchard. We had work horses that grandpa would plow the field with. Grandma canned Everything. It was alot of work, but it was a just a daily chore to us kids to help out. My older brother, sister and I talk about that time in our lives that we enjoyed so much. I envy you and Danny being able to live off the grid and get away from all the bad ingredients put into foods. My sister and I still make cakes, bread and whatever we can from scratch. Our gardens aren't as big as they use to be, but we do what we can to still maintain like grandma did. I still can whatever I can get from the local farmers that I don't have in my garden. Sorry that I have rambled on for so long. Thankyou so much for all you and Danny are doing. I live in Southern Oregon.
Mrs Lori, I'll be 77 this November & love your down to earth simplistic way of living & recipes. As old as I am I learned a tastier way to make meatloaf for my hubby (he loves meatloaf sandwiches the next day too). I've never added potatoes to my cabbage & will be doing that for sure. We're never too old to learn a better way. TY so much for sharing.
I love watching you cook, we have the same old style of cooking. I am 75 years old and learned to cook from my Russian Grandmother, Matilda, who has since passed on. I live in rural Wisconsin we have eight acres and live in our log cabin. My husband and I have been married for 55 years we loved to maintain a big garden all those years, but my loving husband was diagnosed with stage four Alzheimer’s Dementia two years ago and I am his caretaker. Life has changed but I love to cook all his favorite foods, he is not the same strong man I married he is now my two year old child. God is walking with us through these sad times and keeping me strong so I can continue to take care of my loved one as long as possible.
It’s so funny to see certain cooking shows on tv or RUclips. People doing the fancy cooking ....with stuff I’ve never heard of... Nothing compares, or is as good as old fashioned cooking that has been passed down from generation to generation. Basic dishes are the best! Love your channel! Lori from Texas 😊
Just watched this video I am in Houston born and raised and had just watched your Old School Potato Salad Beans and Pork Chop recipe love the stories y'all were telling but very funny I just had a cold meatloaf sandwich with mayo for lunch keep the good videos coming I know it is alot of work but very appreciated and love that you share your secrets
A huge thank you for this video. I've never been able to make a good meatloaf. The taste was wonderful. I took some to my parents today ( dad is 91 and mother is 86). She just texted me and me that my dad said it tasted just like his grandmothers meatloaf ( my great grandmother). What a fabulous compliment. Mrs. Lori you are truly the best.
This is one of my husband's favorite dishes. He loves anything cabbage. I plan on getting at least 3 dishes from a head of cabbage for the two of us. Slaw is one, fried cabbage with peppers, onions, bacon and polish sausage is another and fried cabbage and potatoes is the 3rd. The Germans call this "gamese". I enjoy all your videos, Lori, you are a good teacher.
I am from Pennsylvania and moved to Virginia 28 years ago. I love to cook and I am loving southern foods more and more. Thank you for sharing this and I just love watching and listening to you 🥰 keep the recipes coming! So nice to see a married couple happy and still together, much respect for y’all and bless you both.
Hello, Miss Lori. I feel nostalgic every time I watch your videos. Reminds me of my family members who are long since gone, but they left an indelible mark on my life. My Mom is pictured on the left with my Dad. She was my step-Mom, but you’d never know it. She taught me that blood doesn’t matter when it comes to love. She was full of love, warmth and laughter! She was a Hatfield from West Virginia. Believe me, she was teased about that! I went to many a Hatfield reunion. Came from a line of good cooks. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. I took the time to learn from my Mom, and I’m so glad I did! I hope your family is learning from you. I’ve passed on that love of cooking and baking to my niece. I love traditions and family recipes! Thank you for sharing your cooking, your warmth and your life! I miss all those old times. Good times. Now I’m the old timer, and the cycle of life goes on. I too, want to leave that indelible print on someone else’s heart! You seem like such a sweet and kind lady, makes me think of my Mom. I just had to let you know. Thank you!
Love how you use your hands in cooking....I do too. We transfer our love into the food by touch. Your voice makes me feel so much at home....you are a beautiful lady !
I told my husband her food must be good cuz she put her hands in it, lol! It’s a joke in my house if mom don’t put her finger in the food it doesn’t take good!
But did she wash her hands after she mixed it? If she did, I didn’t notice it. All I could think of was that she was touching all that stuff afterwards! 😬
Oh this video made me happy, hungry, and also made me cry. I am an Alabama/Florida girl who has now lived in Europe for the past 11 years. Her bringing out the jar of bacon grease reminded me of my grandmother. I would sit and watch her cook for hours and because of her I have a great love of baking and cooking. I had tears streaming and didn't even realize it for a little while. It's funny how something so simple as a jar of bacon grease can stir up so many memories. Breaking beans, canning, making blackberry cobbler. The list could go on and on. Thank you for such a great channel. You are definitely my favourite!
Looks amazing and reminds me of how my aunt used to cook! I miss her dearly she was 102… when she passed❤️ My family is from Alabama…. My dad was one of 9 kids.. grew up on a farm. And was always a hard worker! You and MR. Brown. Seemed to have a wonderful life on your homestead! I enjoy watching and listening to you’all ❤️
Hi Ms. Lori, I love watching your videos. Love your choice of soft music for your videos. it is soft to the ear and very soothing, relaxing. I enjoy watching when you cook, can, and work outside, also when you just give us a tour of your yard and new green house . I would like to watch you canning sweet potatoes and potatoes. You didn't show all your steps. I'd like to can some. I enjoyed watching you and Mr. Brown peeling and canning pears and talking about when you too met and what you guys used to do when ya'll were very young. LOL God bless both of you and take care.
Felt like my moms kitchen. I can smell the bacon grease and the lard ... plus the way she taught me to cook and the way we enjoyed her food . Just a part of the love she showed us growing up. The wisdom of a mother is priceless. You're a good lady. Old fashioned and gentle but unapologetic. Glad I found your channel.
You have something SPECIAL, you have the IT factor, you are like a long warm hug, a cup of hot cocoa on a cold snowy night, a pot of homemade vegetable soup and cornbread after a hard day of work,,,
When the bacon grease came out to fry cabbage, I said yesssss! I am here for this. But, I'm from Alabama, and I can't imagine frying cabbage without it.
I have a hard time without my bacon grease. Also I have psoriatic arthritis as well I'm 50 and it's really made a big difference in my life. I would love to know how bad it effects you. You know compare.
Haha im up in Wisconsin, i render my own lard and save my Bacon grease, Haha i about gasped when i seen the lard come. But quickly was smiling again as the bacon grease was added! I can't imagine fried cabbage with out :) yum my mouth is watering now too
I can't stop watching you! I love these videos you make. Your voice is so comforting and I love, love the recipes! Please keep them coming! And thank you!
Thank you again. I really appreciate what you two do. BTW, frying potatoes and cabbage and a bunch of other veggies was called "bubble and squeak" when I was a kid. My grandmother made it with leftovers. It's called bubble and squeak because it pops and crackles when you fry it and then flip it once it has a crust. i loved that dish as a kid. Had to be cooked in lard or bacon fat.
Meat loaf is probably my favorite meat dish of all. I LOVE meat loaf! And this one looked SO good! You also used some things here I wouldn't have thought about using; I'm gonna have try this recipe, 'cause it just looked so great! And the potatoes and cabbage together...I could practically smell it. AND cooked in your homemade lard...that HAD to have been SO good! I enjoyed this video tremendously, Miss Lori. Made me want this exact menu for supper tonight. God bless.
I love watching you and Mr. Brown. It reminds me of the way my mother cooked. Good simple food. She's been gone for three months now and it helps remind me of when she was raising us kids. Thank you so much.
Hi Mrs. Lori, Your dinner looked delicious! I love how you made the meatloaf in the cast iron skillet. And the side dish looked wonderful. And bacon grease makes everything taste better!! LOL!! I am looking forward to visiting your friends channel...Little Jordan Farm. Sounds delightful!! Love, Mary❤️😘❤️
Watching your video today, I want to let you know how much you lift me up I lost my husband two years ago I so enjoy watching you and your husband together
Lori, everyone that eats my meatloaf tells me it's the best they ever ate. Even one of my brother-n-laws use to say how he doesn't like meatloaf but he loves mine. I must say if yours taste as good & as beautiful as it is you win hands down.
Miss Lori you are a true treasure!! Love your videos. It is the BEST!! I have and am trying your recipes! My Husband is very happy I am watching Miss Laurie from Arkansas. Lori from Boise Idaho. Thanks!
Your a joy to watch and especially love the fact that you don’t use your platform to always express your daily aches and pains which we all have. You bring light to my day thank you thank you.
Your voice is so relaxing. I get transported back in time when I was 6,7, 8 yrs old in Grandma Hobden’s kitchen right by the Mississippi River, learning to make Gumbo, bread pudding and potato salad. To relax I listen to your cooking videos. Thank you Mrs. Brown.
The way you did your meatloaf looks awesome. I got to try it . After 30 plus years being married, my husband left me for someone else last year. I didn't let it get me down. I prayed to God asking him to send me someone to me, cause I didn't want to be alone for the rest of my life. So this year on my birthday God answered my prayers. The way we met was like something out of a storybook. This new man in my life loves to cook. One of first things he fix was kinda like your cabbage and potatoes. But he used cabbage, squash and pepper; never ate anything fix like that before but it was very good. He also would put sausage in it at times. We have been trying different recipes with each other. I love watching you guys, keep up the good work. God bless you.
It looks really yummy. I agree that living on a homestead is work. Everyday you have to accomplish those tasks. Little Jordan Farm is a great gal. Really appreciate her.
Mr. And mrs. Brown are awesome I have learned a lot from watching Miss Brown's on her recipes that she has on here she is a very good cook her husband is a very awesome gentleman
My husband & I also enjoy meatloaf! I am my father's daughter and put ketchup on my meats. That's right all meats. Thanks for sharing this recipe with me. God Bless.
I love watching you and your husband..you remind me of my mother so much..no show just honest and a regular person that everyone loves...I'm so thankful that I found your channel
I love your old fashioned meat loaf. I have been using a lot of dehydrated peppers this year. We love them and eat them in our eggs in the mornin and in most meals. I can't say i've ever rehydrated them other than for cold potato salad. Same with the onions. I never rehydrate I just figure that anything I'm cooking is gonna give off some liquid. Other than that tater salad that is.
That meatloaf looks so good. I will try your recipe the next time I make mine. The best part is that cast iron skillet. Love making things in my cast iron skillets. Thank you for posting and God Bless you two.
Meatloaf is one of my favorite meals to have. The brown sugar and chili sauce was new for me, but I’m always willing to give something new a try. It looks so good.
I love meatloaf and one of the best ones I ever made was for my parents in a cast-iron skillet. It puts that delicious crust around the edge. Yum! I’ll have to try fried potatoes and cabbage that sounds great. I will definitely check out her channel. XOXO
I just love meatloaf it’s so good especially in sandwiches and cabbage oh boy makes me want to do some for dinner I cook simple and the old way of cooking I learnt from my mom and grandmother it’s the only way I cook I do a depression era cake when I do my homemade soups it’s delicious my grandmother taught me any how take care God Bless I’m from the Bahamas
The way you show how to do things when cooking reminds me of my mom. She's been gone for more than 10 years and I miss her. Watching your videos is a bit like having a small piece of my mom back. You've got yourself another new subscriber and I never subscribe to ANYTHING. I look for ward to more videos.
You make me WANT to get back into the kitchen.. these days life gets busy in the city and take out is easy but ma’am this looks so delicious! Thank you from Alberta Canada
Mrs.Lori I'm sorry to hear you have back surgery sometime ago and how you suffer from sciatica and arthritis may the good Lord continually places healing Graces upon you Mrs Lori Mr Brown to be able to do the things you do with Maintaining your homestead Thank you Mrs. So nice and enjoying your fellowship God bless you Misses Lori🙏❤️
It goes with everything at my house we have sandwiches the next day with mustard, then another meal with spaghetti . I freeze my leftover meatloaf(if there's any) for a quick meal later. Can't beat it!
Looks delish but no matter what your cooking or doing,I feel like I'm sitting there in your kitchen with you. Just enjoying your down home and comfortable style. 😊 God Bless and stay warm Miss Lori. It's about to start gettin cold on us Okies, and heading your way!🙂
Yum. I love meatloaf; it's such a comfort food from childhood. I especially love the leftovers to make meatloaf sandwiches... my favorite! One of my FAVE Irish dishes is Colcannon which is a potato and cabbage dish. It's so, so good. Have a wonderful day. I'm working my way through your videos with my daughter and we are thoroughly enjoying them. God Bless.
Meatloaf yum...and yes the next day it's always better. Thank you so much for the shout out!! Your Awesome! Hope you liked the cabbage and taters I'm sure you can dr. It up and make it your own . I've never tried chilli sauce on my meatloaf I've always been a catsup gal but I believe we'd love it with chilli sauce I'll try that blessings love ya xoxox
I would never have thought to make meatloaf in my iron skillet. Great idea. My dad’s favorite dish is fried potatoes & onions, adding cabbage made my mouth water. I’m making this soon. Thanks for the wonderful video.
God bless you both Mr Danny & Mrs lori On the birth of your new granddaughter Anna Beth . I just saw the announcement yall put out Oct 30,2023 What a blessing to you both , plus I'm making meatloaf tonight & wanted to see how you make it ... Oh I wish we had Deer meat , We have deer sausage from last year , I'm using ground beef & ground pork ... God bless you both Mrs josette Tharp Montgomery County, Texas Oh I love a cold meatloaf sandwich yummy yummy 😋
I cook fried taters & cabbage quite a lot. I usually put a onion in it too with oil, salt & pepper. Sometimes I put minced onion powder & onion powder & garlic powder in it too. It's very delicious.😋
Thank you for sharing this recipe, I made it with half ground beef and half ground turkey, used a pack of crushed Ritz Crackers instead of bread crumbs, and added some mushrooms. Everything else was exactly the same. I like the Chili Sauce on top. It came out very delicious, been eating on it this week. Looking forward to your cookbook. This is one of my favorite channels.
I have psoriatic arthritis too. I'm 34 and feel 64 most days. I see a rheumatologist at Maury Regional in Columbia TN and he put me on a Methotrexate injection that has helped tremendously! I still hurt a lot, but not nearly as much as I hurt last year. I'll be praying for you to find something that works for you too!
Well, I’m setting here drooling all over myself with that cabbage, taters and onions. Can’t get more good eatin than that! Unless you had some fried green tomatoes.
I am 75 and I really enjoy watching your videos. You and Danny remind me so much of what my grandparents were like. They had a homestead out in the country, no electricity, indoor plumbing and a woodstove. Grandma cooked food just like you. My older brother, sister and myself lived with them (my grandma delivered all 3 of us kids at home)
We finally got electricity in 1959 no phone until 1964.

I told my husband her food must be good cuz she put her hands in it, lol! It’s a joke in my house if mom don’t put her finger in the food it doesn’t take good!
Could remove the rings though...
Do you add any fat since venison doesn’t have any or much!
But did she wash her hands after she mixed it? If she did, I didn’t notice it. All I could think of was that she was touching all that stuff afterwards! 😬
I just love hearing you talk and cook. You make cooking so relaxing. It’s your soothing voice.

Your a joy to watch and especially love the fact that you don’t use your platform to always express your daily aches and pains which we all have. You bring light to my day thank you thank you.
I love gardening and canning... I love all your videos .. god bless ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰
Your supper looks wonderful! I love it - lard and bacon grease! Just because! Love you lady!
Hehe, lard and bacon, yea baby! I'm telling you, so good! Love you sister.
Brown.
You are a doll. Just like everyone else, I love to watch you cook and I am learning to cook so much better because of your videos.
Thank you, your so kind, God Bless, xoxoxo
Yes, something to do all the time, your a busy lady too. Keep up the good work sister, God Bless.
Mr.
Your right Deb, I dont, always hydrate, depends on the dish, God Bless, xoxoxo
Ruth potatoe
I fry cabbage and potatoes all the time. Love it.
That meatloaf looks so good. I will try your recipe the next time I make mine. The best part is that cast iron skillet. Love making things in my cast iron skillets. Thank you for posting and God Bless you two.
Everything's better in an iron skillet! Xoxoxo
I hope me and my husband can be as happy as you and Mr. Brown someday. I love your cooking and closeness you have together. God bless you both
Meatloaf is one of my favorite meals to have. The brown sugar and chili sauce was new for me, but I’m always willing to give something new a try. It looks so good.

Gosh your videos make my heart smile, thank you for deciding to make them. I miss my family and watching you reminds me of them.
I love meatloaf and one of the best ones I ever made was for my parents in a cast-iron skillet. It puts that delicious crust around the edge. Yum! I’ll have to try fried potatoes and cabbage that sounds great. I will definitely check out her channel. XOXO

Did, I 'm from Illinois, moved to SC in '81, and fell into a whole new world of food and cooking; bacon grease is a MUST for cabbage 😋

Just made meatloaf for supper. I am a southern cook as well so I agree with bacon grease in cabbage and I also put it in green beans.
It goes with everything at my house we have sandwiches the next day with mustard, then another meal with spaghetti . I freeze my leftover meatloaf(if there's any) for a quick meal later. Can't beat it!
Great ideas Cathie! Xoxoxo
I loved watching you cook, and really enjoyed your stories, you are a beautiful lady 🥰💖
You just made me hungry . Thanks for sharing.
This the first time I have seen potatoes and cabbage. Cook together. I'm done cabbage and onions and that's always good.
My husband is from England, and we fry potatoes, cabbage and onion and it’s called “Bubble and Squeak”. Love it!

One of my FAVE Irish dishes is Colcannon which is a potato and cabbage dish. It's so, so good. Have a wonderful day. I'm working my way through your videos with my daughter and we are thoroughly enjoying them. God Bless.

I would never have thought to make meatloaf in my iron skillet. Great idea. My dad’s favorite dish is fried potatoes & onions, adding cabbage made my mouth water. I’m making this soon. Thanks for the wonderful video.
Hey that's my recipe to I was raised in West Virginia we ate a lot of deer meat. I also use oatmeal in mine. Yummy.
I love meatloaf so did my Mother, yours looks very good. You’re right it’s even better the next day.

I cook fried taters & cabbage quite a lot. I usually put a onion in it too with oil, salt & pepper. Sometimes I put minced onion powder & onion powder & garlic powder in it too. It's very delicious.😋
My daughter has the same bowl. Love meatloaf, especially on sandwiches.
I’m so grateful to be able to watch your channel you make the most yummy down home comfort food.
Thank you so much
Ms Lori I love your channel so proud to have found it, this recipe sounds awesome I definitely want to try this one, blessings
I'm so glad we found each other , your such a sweetheart. God Bless.
Whippoorwill Holler awe thank you sweet lady, you are such a blessing
Thank you for sharing this recipe, I made it with half ground beef and half ground turkey, used a pack of crushed Ritz Crackers instead of bread crumbs, and added some mushrooms. Everything else was exactly the same. I like the Chili Sauce on top. It came out very delicious, been eating on it this week. Looking forward to your cookbook. This is one of my favorite channels.
I’ve never had deer meatloaf, but looked delicious! I’m going to make the cabbage, onions and potatoes though! Thanks for the recipes❤️
Hey there 😊
How are you doing today
I have had 4 back surgeries I don't want to have anymore , but It does make gardening so hard...
That meatloaf looks really tasty. I think I cook my next one in my cast iron.
Your exactly right, it dont get no better Brenda, Thanks for watching! God Bless, xoxoxo
