Yea Gwen, I saw a review for 2Ks games, I can't say I'm a fan of how they plaster them with additional costly content. Hopefully Retromania Wrestling will also be great next month.
Exactly, I haven’t played a new wrestling game since smackdown vs raw 2011 bc I played the 2k ones and hated them, they had no personality, no flavor, just a boring wrestling simulator, and I still play the old ones to this day, but I’ve always wanted a good new wrestling game that had those chaotic bits that old games and WWE/WWF in general had, and this has done it for me, it’s even more crazy and different than old WWE, and after wanting a good wrestling game for so long, MDickie has pulled through to give us that with this one, and to me I don’t need realism to enjoy it so the graphics actually give me that older feel and so I don’t mind it not being hyper realistic I love how it looks like a 90s game with modern sequences and mechanics.

I'm just discovering this game now. Checked my switch and it just so happens to be on sale. I think I might make a compulsive buy here. The look of this is really bringing me back to my childhood.
I really found it Nostalgic Robert, it wasn't quite Smackdown but it was a very good tribute to that era of wrestling games, particularly playstation ones.
@@SwitchStars It looks like it's some kind of love child between -WWF Attitude/Warzone/ECW: Anarchy Rules (Visuals). -Smackdown (Gameplay). Firepro/WCW vs. The World (In terms of having a roster that's full of familiar faces that simply need to be renamed and edited a little) I'm honestly excited to buy it and just check it out. Enjoy all the chaotic matches.
I remember playing this game on my phone in middle school and i had so much nostalgia, i remember creating a wrestler that looked like triple h but with long hair and after winning a couple of matches i went to American wrestling, i was put into a haircut match against some guy, i wanted to try my finisher on him but he somehow fumbled and i instantly won the match.
Haha I only played Wrestlemania 2000 on my mates N64 a little, but we played endless hours of the smackdown games on Playstation 1, character customisation in that was awesome.
@@SwitchStars id much rather own this game than that WWE one that just released on the switch. It's like comfort food playing games that perfectly recapture the feel of the games of your childhood.
Haha it gets a bit manic at times and I think it's speed is close to that of oldskool games, they always looked like the characters legs were moving faster than their actual movement.
@@SwitchStars I messed around with the demo a bit more after watching your video and it's actually not as bad as I thought. The movement works for what the game is going for. This is one I have to keep on my wishlist for sure!
Yea I personally felt the movement speed was fine but I've had a few comment saying they thought it was too slow. Hope you enjoy if you decide to pick it up.
You can make your own matches. Even exploding barbed wire matches. Just play exhibition mode. What I would like is if you can insert spotify songs as entrance music.
When we watched the trailer for this one we quickly went from laughing at it to laughing with it, although it did go on for far too long. I won't be picking this one up myself, but fair play to them.
This game is created by Mdickie. He has created games for 20 years or so now. Every game has this exact same style and roster but graphics have updated. The game looks weird but when you start playing it you appreciate the entertainment it provides. It's a wrestling sandbox and a game of it's own Try the free Wrestling Revolution 3D on mobiles. It's a bit janky and laggy but a good demo, empire is better with accessibility and graphics and it's motions and moves
Yea I saw his other games appear to use the same visuals and possibly the same engine? It's pretty cool seeing a dev create all different things out of the same resources and it's a great wrestling game for fans of older wrestling games.
I cant remember if it has been mentioned but MDickie may add the booking version in as an additional mode, I've never played it myself but it sounds interesting.
I had an injured worker show up backstage and ask if I would pay them to beat up my next opponent, I said no and they attacked me instead, I was at near full health and hit one move on them and KO'd them instantly making their injury worse.

Just found out about this game. I was in grade 8 when WrestleFest hit my local arcade. Played the HELL out of it. This will be a guaranteed buy for me!
@@SwitchStars yeah i checked the creators website its the exact game i played, its nice to see it in new platforms i guess this is like the wrestling version of cave story XD.
It is JC, its been ported to the Switch and it runs great on it, It also doesn't have any in app purchases, though I dont know what they were on mobile. I'm also not sure what the differences are between the mobile version and this.
No, it's essentially the same thing though, you just edit an existing wrestler, there are about 150 of them and you can edit everything about them to create your own wrestler.
Thanks Brandeno, Yea you have to go into the career menu then press and hold the B button, that will retire your current wrestler. It isn't stated in game I don't think but Mdickie had a PDF instruction manual on his twitter which is where I found out how to do it.
Tyrell, did you delete your saved data for the game after uninstalling it? If not I would probably have kept the same corrupted save data after you re-downloaded it. I would check MDickies twitter to see if others have found a solution, if not I'm sure he's onto patching the game asap.
I played the demo yesterday and was very fun Like you said, it reminded me of SmackDown 2 for the PS1 but because of the small download size I was afraid it didn't had much content and get stale fast. Glad that's not the case, thanks for the review cause I could not find it anywhere else Definitely going to buy it since 2k decided to crap all over the francise and suck all the fun of the games to impose simulation SMH
Yea Daniel, I played a lot of Smackdown and this is the closest thing I've played to it, I didn't even get that far into the career mode, but I liked how the different story interjections played out and the rival system. I think 2k have really gone down hill, they're just money grabbing now from what I've seen.
I felt it was more like Smackdown than that with its controls and the way you move around, I always found the N64 controller a bit of a pain for games like that.
This looks like it could be fun, but why do they move so damn slow? I know it's supposed to be reminiscent of the N64 wrestling games, but even No Mercy ran (slightly) faster than this game when you had 4 people in the ring.
Im not sure Radical, I didnt really notice it to be honest, things are very hectic when you can have 30 fighting at once and I think if it were any faster it would be unplayable lol
@@SwitchStars You might be right...I honestly don't mind them walking/moving slow, but it's just weird looking when they slowly float in the air when they're tossed or thrown.
@@SwitchStars Well I might check it out. The combat in the latest version of wrestling MPIRE on the PC had the computer basically just glom you if you fall down. The combat has always been a bit wonky but I found it particularly bad on the latest one. However, I always liked the story mode, no one else did anything like that.
I don't actually know JayJay, I didn't even check if you could transition between locations, there was nothing said about it in the game but I did see something mentioned on his twitter so it's potentially being implemented.
Having spent years playing No Mercy and Fire Pro I really, really want this. I wish I had known it was on sale :( other than Fire Pro 2 for GBA i dont think there has been a good wrestling game on a handheld. Want
You will probably really enjoy it JB, I think its fairly priced even at full price and the dev is going to be adding new features in the future for free.
Not as such, you edit an existing one, change its name, all its details, moves and stats to create any character you want. There are 350 character slots in the game so you wont really miss a few of the original ones.
Someone else asked that Zeus, I'm not entirely sure how to do it though, like when you character select you can see the ones who hold titles but I wasn't sure how you created a title match to try and win it.
Yea I mean its like half the price of some wrestling games and I think it's worth it if you enjoy a more classic experience, it sort of does away with the glamour which some modern titles use to hide their shallow gameplay.
There's already been a few No Mercy-style wrestling games since then. I'd argue even the Smackdown games began to style themselves after the AKI series after a few entries. The spin-off Day of Reckoning games on Gamecube were also similar to AKI.
I think you need to change things in the Editor menu before starting your career, you can change your players stats and stuff in there and I believe you should be able to set your rivals, partners and managers etc.
@@SwitchStars yeah hopefully they add that in the future I loved that about the old games you could challenge for the title whenever you wanted a lot of moves were removed too kinda upset :(
I assume this is just the starter build and hopefully extra clothing and moves will be added in future. I want to see a closed cage you can climb on top of as well and more outdoor locations. One of the best parts about Smackdown was being able to move between different locations in a match.

@@SwitchStars It looks like it's some kind of love child between
-WWF Attitude/Warzone/ECW: Anarchy Rules (Visuals).
-Smackdown (Gameplay).
Firepro/WCW vs. The World (In terms of having a roster that's full of familiar faces that simply need to be renamed and edited a little)
I'm honestly excited to buy it and just check it out. Enjoy all the chaotic matches.
Yea the main wrestling game I played when I was growing up was Smackdown. Hope you enjoy it if you pick it up.
Great game the roster is insane
Yea I like how you can build it all yourself too and edit everyone to create a modern set of wrestlers if you like.
It's a great review, Man! I definitely recommend you checking the rest of the Mpire series out too!
Thank you Dude, I will do if I find the time, maybe with the success of this game MDickie will port more across.
Well his wrestling games were made on an old engine and thus can't be ported, but they are free on his website.
@@dudearnav Yea I read most of them were made for Windows XP, so they likely wont work on windows 10 without me faffing about too lol
@@SwitchStars Well actually when he made them free, he made a windowed edition compatible with win10
@@dudearnav ahh ok I just went on to his site and saw the first games he said they wouldnt work with win 10.
I wish it was on ps4...brings me back to my youth
Yea I don't know if that will ever happen but keep on hoping Eric.
I saw guys on another channel load a cage match with 30 guys, tables and dynamite. It's just as chaotic and hilarious as you're imagining.
I loaded 30 into a standard ring and that was bad enough 😂
@@SwitchStars this was basically nonstop explosions and bodies shooting up like popcorn
@@atodamadre3197 Sounds like a fun night in
i remember when watching nl play that theres a virtual crowd option like wwe does right after you hit 100% on the crowd size.
Yea all like screens with faces on lol
@@SwitchStars i think its a nice option.
I like fun little additions in games like that.
@@SwitchStars i enjoyed your review btw and i hope online play comes to this game at some point.
@@Dynbear Thanks, am glad you liked it. Yea online play would really kick this up a notch.
my only complaint is that you cant cartridge tilt on the switch.
Haha I only played Wrestlemania 2000 on my mates N64 a little, but we played endless hours of the smackdown games on Playstation 1, character customisation in that was awesome.
@@SwitchStars yeah, there were some really good wrestling games out there amidst the sea of absolute garbage ones.
Yea, Im also looking forward to Retromania Wrestling which should also be pretty fun.
@@SwitchStars id much rather own this game than that WWE one that just released on the switch. It's like comfort food playing games that perfectly recapture the feel of the games of your childhood.
Me too, Switch Corner reviewed it and it looked like an absolute scam! It is lol, I would definitely play this one with my bros if I was back home.
Great review! I am glad it didnt disappoint :)
Cheers Kondo, I enjoyed playing it, took me back to my youth and Smackdown days lol
I really wish they could up the speed of everything just a tiny bit. This looks like a bunch of old school fun, but damn is it slow.
I love the fact that you can kill a wrestler if u injure them enough.
Can you? Lol I didn't know that.
@@SwitchStars yes it's so much fun killing or retiring a wrestler.
@@fierceopposition9462 haha brutal end to a career :D
This takes me back to No Mercy on the N64 and I can’t wait to play it.
Yea, it's control scheme is more like the Smackdown games, but very much the same feel as the classic ones.
It’s been out for over a year and a half fuck u still waiting for
You can make your own matches.
I never actually saw the trailer for it, I saw the screenshots and thought I have to give this one a go lol 😂
This game is created by Mdickie. He has created games for 20 years or so now. Every game has this exact same style and roster but graphics have updated. The game looks weird but when you start playing it you appreciate the entertainment it provides. It's a wrestling sandbox and a game of it's own
Try the free Wrestling Revolution 3D on mobiles.
Well, to be fair. WWE 2K20 characters also go through ropes, tables and is a glitchy mess.
That's some of the charm in this game tbh 😂
This series is low budget whats Tks excuse?
@@RunemasterRick +++
Great review i really enjoyed demo, probably best time pick it up while its on sale!
Thanks Tate, yea it is if you enjoyed it, 20% off is decent.
Don't mind me, I'm just waiting for newLEGACYinc to comment on this video.
I've never heard of them but they look like they're big wrestling fans 🙂
I watched their full 8 hour live on a school night 😅 probably wasn't worth it
Lol no regrets 😂
This channel isn't that big lol. And gotcake would probably agree. I was surprised to see a comment get 50+ likes and 30+ comments.
@@SwitchStars I'd watch an 8 hr gotcake stream!
I would rather have the booking version than being a wrestler.
I cant remember if it has been mentioned but MDickie may add the booking version in as an additional mode, I've never played it myself but it sounds interesting.
I think the game deserves 4.5/5 if not 5/5
Yea I dont do half ratings and I felt the game does still have its fair share of issues which is why it didn't get the max.
I had an injured worker show up backstage and ask if I would pay them to beat up my next opponent, I said no and they attacked me instead, I was at near full health and hit one move on them and KO'd them instantly making their injury worse.
Fool of a Took!
Can't we go in outer world mat Dickie posted a tweet where he told there ?
Not that I know of Dsy, it's a possibility though.
Remember playing this on my phone when it was just an app. This might be better on the switch but only because of the controls
Yea it has some differences between the mobile and switch version too.
It's infinitely better due to the fps it gets from being on the switch among other things.
This is a good point.
Quality Video Nice Review i Am Fan Of Mat Dickie Playing His Games For Years My Favorite Game Of Mat is Wrestling Revolution 3D But This Could Be The New One This Game Not About Graphics It's About Gameplay and That's What His Tag Line Say Wrestling That Puts The Fun First
Yea this is the first of his games I've played. I don't care much for graphics if the gameplay is good, I think if you've been gaming for a long time these visuals are pretty Nostalgic lol
@@SwitchStars yes they are
@@wrestlingemperor3304 You looking forward to Retromania Wresling?
@@SwitchStars I saw The Game On The Internet Looks Promising But I Don't Have Switch So I Have To Wait For It To Come To Pc Or Android I Love Wrestling Games All Kinds Of Wrestling Games I Want try All Of Them If I Can
Yea hopefully it does well on Switch and they port it to other systems do you can give it a go 😊
I played a n64 game once couldn't tell u name had alot of fun this looks epic with pedigree
An n64 wrestling one or just an n64 game? I think the most popular ones were no mercy and wrestlemania 2000, or atleast they were the 2 I played lol
@@SwitchStars no mercy that's it, was this dude connected to that
I don't think so but he has been doing stuff for over 20 years aparently.
@@SwitchStars after a lil digging its an upcoming game I think involving Aew & the no mercy dev I caught wind of thought this was it this. This is still great & obvious labor of luv after his previous pc titles, feeling a physical will come with this one
Yea he seems to have been working on it for a long time, possibly will have to see if any indie publisher picks it up.
Awesome review. Bc of this I just bought it. I see there’s an option for title match in exhibition. But I can’t figure it out. Any help from anyone would be lovely
Thanks Ray, I would try putting in an opponent who holds a title? They have belts on their names in the character select menu on them if you hit A to get to swap out a character. I didn't actually try it myself.
@@SwitchStars I appreciate your reply very much! I did try that and it’s a no go. Maybe it’s something that’s eventually unlocked in story! Thanks bud
Ahh damn thought that might have worked, if you check Mdickies twitter there is a pdf manual on there and you might find something about it.
Great video mate :)
Thank you Aless glad you enjoyed it 😊
This looks like the wrestling game that the RUclips channel Hogan vs. Flair used to use.
I've never heard of that, I assume its some sort of animated series using an in game engine?
It’s a channel that used to take old PS2 era wrestling games, and make a bunch of hilarious create-a-wrestlers, and then made PPV shows out of them that they commented on. The commentary was hilarious. I don’t think they’ve made any content for a few years.
@@jeffm5056 Ahh ok sounds like something I would have been into lol.
Great review thank you
No problem Johnny, glad you enjoyed it.
Looks good Iv got wrestling revolution on my mobile so pretty much the same game but somehow better with more options
Yea it's sort of an enhanced version of that Michael but it retains its original charm 😉
Just found out about this game. I was in grade 8 when WrestleFest hit my local arcade. Played the HELL out of it. This will be a guaranteed buy for me!
Never played any wrestling games in the arcades I've been to, only ever played them on console, I didn't even realise they had them.
Look into Retromania Wrestling. Its the sequel to Wrestlefest
@@SwitchStars retromania suppose to be the sequel to wrestlefest actually!
@@ChipHazard316 Yep It is and its already on my list, hoping to get a key for it but if not Ill be buying and reviewing.
Banger music bro
Haha cheers dude 😄
@@SwitchStars thanks mate you too 🤘
I remember playing this on PC like ages ago. I think it was like a freeware game
I'm not sure about it's previous iterations, I know a version of it was released on android but I never played it.
@@SwitchStars yeah i checked the creators website its the exact game i played, its nice to see it in new platforms i guess this is like the wrestling version of cave story XD.
I think it is well suited for the switch it's not too stressful on the hardware and it's a fun wrestling game.
There is one called Wrestling Mpire too?
Question. Can I play as The Fiend Wray Byatt?
This is Wrestling Revolution 3D on mobile. Its free on the playstore.
It is JC, its been ported to the Switch and it runs great on it, It also doesn't have any in app purchases, though I dont know what they were on mobile. I'm also not sure what the differences are between the mobile version and this.
So you can't create your own characters? Only costumize already existing? 😢
No, it's essentially the same thing though, you just edit an existing wrestler, there are about 150 of them and you can edit everything about them to create your own wrestler.
I love how you can just kill people in this game Just literally just kill them if you want
even with all the glitches it still dosent look as bad as last 2k switch effort. tempted to pick this bad boy up.
Much better than that tripe MM, I recommend grabbing it if you like classic wrestling games.
Great review! Do you possibly know how to restart your career in wrestling empire? I’m not sure how to do it.
Thanks Brandeno, Yea you have to go into the career menu then press and hold the B button, that will retire your current wrestler. It isn't stated in game I don't think but Mdickie had a PDF instruction manual on his twitter which is where I found out how to do it.
@@SwitchStars Okay thank you so much! I accidentally didn’t change my age and my character is like 50 😂
Haha I wanted to make my gimp tiny but didn't work out how to restart until after I'd recorded all the footage lol.
Wait this game s out on the switch right now?
It is Xavier, released last week.
"Nice to meet you, The Gimp."
He's a hot slice of pie ain't he?
I don’t know what to do at this point I redownloaded it I checked for corrupted data I need help pls help I really wanna play this game?????
Tyrell, did you delete your saved data for the game after uninstalling it? If not I would probably have kept the same corrupted save data after you re-downloaded it. I would check MDickies twitter to see if others have found a solution, if not I'm sure he's onto patching the game asap.
the guy who made hard time
Yea Baxter, I never played that but I did check out a list of his other games, all look pretty retro like this.
I played the demo yesterday and was very fun
Like you said, it reminded me of SmackDown 2 for the PS1 but because of the small download size I was afraid it didn't had much content and get stale fast.
Glad that's not the case, thanks for the review cause I could not find it anywhere else
Definitely going to buy it since 2k decided to crap all over the francise and suck all the fun of the games to impose simulation SMH
Yea Daniel, I played a lot of Smackdown and this is the closest thing I've played to it, I didn't even get that far into the career mode, but I liked how the different story interjections played out and the rival system. I think 2k have really gone down hill, they're just money grabbing now from what I've seen.
@@SwitchStars hows this game compare with no mercy?
Yea it probably takes a bit of getting use to, I felt that characters moved a lot slower when playing N64 wrestling games compared to PlayStation.
@@Tom_Van_Zandt i think you can adjust the speed
Bro u can control the whole team just go into settings tag control and switch to whole team I might be wrong tho if I am my bad😪
I don't remember seeing it but thanks for the info 👍
3:37 i remember what its like being womens champion even though im a man lol
Yea its quite an achievement :D
Didn't know they made this for the switch. I played it on PC, but was a bit dissapointed abut the latest version.
yea its not long been out azn, I really enjoyed it tbh
@@SwitchStars Well I might check it out. The combat in the latest version of wrestling MPIRE on the PC had the computer basically just glom you if you fall down. The combat has always been a bit wonky but I found it particularly bad on the latest one. However, I always liked the story mode, no one else did anything like that.
He introduced a new fluid combat system where one move can lead directly onto another.
Does it have the outdoor free-roam in career mode feature that mdickie promised in early development?
I don't actually know JayJay, I didn't even check if you could transition between locations, there was nothing said about it in the game but I did see something mentioned on his twitter so it's potentially being implemented.
Oh okay thanks
Np sorry I couldn't help more.
@@SwitchStars i got it. I knew that was going to happen. Thanks for the great review that got me so hyped
Hope you enjoy it matey, thanks for watching 😊
Is there an actual create a wrestler in this game? Like, no editing an existing character but create someone not there?
Not as such, you edit an existing one, change its name, all its details, moves and stats to create any character you want. There are 350 character slots in the game so you wont really miss a few of the original ones.
@azart61 Enjoy Matey :)
Can you sim title matches in Exhibition?
Someone else asked that Zeus, I'm not entirely sure how to do it though, like when you character select you can see the ones who hold titles but I wasn't sure how you created a title match to try and win it.
3:30 “Gob off”
Yeh, always mouthing it to each other :D
Holy shit thats an Mdickie game
That it is 😁
Tyis game looks cool so I downloaded the demo
Is this basically the free mobile version ported to the switch for a price?
Pretty much, like most Switch games, got to pay your Switch taxes!
WHO IS CREATING CHEF VORTAZASK?
Into retro wrestling like me buy pandora's box before there sold out
Get it while its hot Glen :D
Just played the demo and it is pretty fun. Shame about the price.
Yea I mean its like half the price of some wrestling games and I think it's worth it if you enjoy a more classic experience, it sort of does away with the glamour which some modern titles use to hide their shallow gameplay.
@@SwitchStars Yes. The demo was really fun. I may end up getting it. My birthday tomorrow so I might treat myself. 😂😂😂
@@SwitchStars Update: Just bought it. 😂
Happy early birthday Dixie 🎂
Haha hope you enjoy it 😊
Does this game also feature booking?
Basically; the N64 style game we've been asking for since No Mercy.
I would say so 😊
Are y'all smokin rocks or what lmao I love wrestling games but this game is an embarrassment to wrestling
Thanks for your opinion.
There's already been a few No Mercy-style wrestling games since then. I'd argue even the Smackdown games began to style themselves after the AKI series after a few entries. The spin-off Day of Reckoning games on Gamecube were also similar to AKI.
Wwe needs to replace 2k with mdickie
👍
Wwf wrestlefest game digin it
Really fun game just need way more moves not enough
I think Mdickie will be updating it with more stuff, his twitter seemed to indicate so.
Has anyone figured out if you can start a rivalry or form a team yourself like in wrestling revolution?
I think you need to change things in the Editor menu before starting your career, you can change your players stats and stuff in there and I believe you should be able to set your rivals, partners and managers etc.
@@SwitchStars yeah hopefully they add that in the future I loved that about the old games you could challenge for the title whenever you wanted a lot of moves were removed too kinda upset :(
I assume this is just the starter build and hopefully extra clothing and moves will be added in future. I want to see a closed cage you can climb on top of as well and more outdoor locations. One of the best parts about Smackdown was being able to move between different locations in a match.
will the booking career and free roam be in a new update?
I have no idea ethan, keep an eye on Mdickies twitter and he might post updates on there.
Idk about the free roam but I think he already said that booking carreer was going to come on a update on a future
That's cool thanks for clarifying matey.
