Join my dog Tripper and I on this -20 cold winter camping trip.
We hike in over 2 lakes, pulling a sled with our gear that we are testing for a real wilderness trip that is coming up soon.
We locate a very nice winter camping spot and set up our canvas tent with a woodstove.
We spend the day and night out winter camping , staying somewhat warm and dry in the canvas tent with the woodstove going, and we get pretty cold outside in the -20 winter weather.

Tripper and I had a great time on this cold trip. Hope you enjoy it. See you on the next one.
Glad to see another video from you.
Hello
Me too !
Can’t imagine doing everything that needs to be done and setting up for a shoot every time. Thank you for doing all of that for us Joe!!!
That was hot!... er...I mean...cool! Stay safe Joe and Tripper!
Didn’t realize I’d miss seeing scout in your videos so much man. Just lost my dog after 14 years of friendship......I feel your pain brother.
Oh my god, you eat your dog
@@m5a1stuart83 not in any way did he say that ngl unnecessary comment
Hey Joe. Great video. Your videos helping me through rough time. I just lost my wife to COVID-19 Jan. 12 this year. The videos help take my mind away for a bit. Always be safe out there. And keep up the videos. So thank you. Your videos do more good than you know!!!
Joe drags a dead body into the woods in the intro.
Everyone: Nice sled!
Extra rations are always handy.
It's Kyle, Doug, Mike and Shawn...he keeps them frozen until they thaw out for portaging videos!...rofl
Ha ha ha ha
The way Tripper looks up at u when u tell him to lay down in his bed.. Such a sweet boy he is.
it's great to see Tripper back in the videos. hope he's doing well.
Tripper has such personality! Begging for a piece of wood, then walking away grumbling when you said "no". I replayed it for my wife, and she died laughing.
I'm sorry for your loss
20:14 If that's what you're talking about, not only does Tripper grumble, he steals another piece and runs off. Scout was all about sticks, Tripper the firewood.
I'm so glad to see that Tripper is all healed up. He seems to love being with you on these adventures.
The frustrated grunt/growl Tripper gives you when you tell him no on the firewood is the funniest thing I’ve seen on YT today. That boy has some sass in him!
Were you around when scout was still here?
20:08 🤣
What type of dog is he again??
@@proctortoad Dutch shepherd
@@qeva_ Vs 36:35 did you see the pup sneak away with the wood piece in your timestamp?
Old lady, living vicariously. Thanks Joe.
The sounds trip makes when you're chopping wood made my day. He's a good dog.
My Shepard pup Mouse does the same thing with shovels, rakes, and even a broom!
Can’t get anything accomplished with her around...LoL
The sign of a good person...
I've not made up my bed yet... but their dog is curled up with a sleep pad, a blanket and a sleeping bag!
My current fur buddy is a cat, but I'd go hungry and cold before he did.
Same here, Chuck.
Third
Fourth
I'd eat the cat if I went hungry.
Ok ... I need to se some winter camping vid with a cat now! LOL
Hey Joe, I know it's really hard to make them stop but I had an english pitbull one time that loved to chew on wood until one day I noticed that her neck was swollen up to be like 5 times what it should be. Took her to the vet and it turned out that she had a splinter in her throat that had gotten infected. The vet removed it and she was fine but w a whole lot of repetitive no's, I was able to finally get her to stop. A lot can go wrong from the wood chewing. We love tripper and would hate to see him go through that after all he's already been through. Lovin' the videos as well, keep 'em coming please.
Tripper is looking like he is doing great. No limp and full of energy
👍This just proves your dog likes you, cause he knows you’re out here by choice & he’s on board anyway.
I love how Tripper is NOT happy that you are chopping up the wood. It sounds like he's telling you off.
Be safe everyone, stay warm
Man I still remember the hot tent with scout and the stove creating the pond underneath you lol, scout holding on his dry bit of blanket for dear life haha man that was a while ago, looking forward to this one, cheers Joe
That was one of my favorite episodes but it turned out so bad...
@@BlueBrainMountainStream It was a disaster lol, but one of my most favourite videos as well.
That was the first joe video i watched. Still a favorite
@@kylelewis4685 kinda poetic, all back here many years after, a little bit older, new hot tent video, only this time with Trooper.
can someone tag that video id like to see it
Tripper is having a blast.
Yay Joe and Tripper.. glad to see you guys. Was watching the Mars rover landing for the last few hours.. all lost in thoughts of exploring other planets.. then I see your video and the beauty in it.. and wonder why we would ever want to leave...
I was so bored on YT just now. Then this pops up. Night sorted! Thanks Joe and Tripp!
Night sorted.. hah! If you're still bored... Check out @sortedfood. It's a UK cooking channel on YT ran by 4+1 college buddies. Pretty fun watch. Hope you like it. ☺️
TEXAS HERE! Hey Canada! Keep your weather up there where it belongs!
Sorry about that bud. Stay safe, sending our thoughts and prayers for our fellows down south
what do you expect us to do? build a wall?
@@MadChatterYT Thanks buddy. We appreciate that. We got love for Canada down here in Texas.

@@dix_neuf ....lol..👍
Being an outdoors and camping enthusiast for YEARS, I continue to learn by watching your videos. I always learn something new besides the relaxation!
Hey Joe just wanted to say that I hope that you and the family is doing okay. I also wanted to say that I have very high hope that autumn’s eye and nostril and that everything will be okay. 💯 I also just wanted to let you know that your not the only one, we are here to give you comfort during these terrible times. Be safe Joe.
And I was JUST thinking.. This day could really use a bit of JOE and TRIPPER and Bam 💥💥here it is!! 😁
I love Tripper in the background barking with the zoomies! Missed this good boi!
I know that no dog can or will ever replace Scout in your heart, but you sure pick a good new companion in Tripper. I love big playful dogs that bark at sticks and branches, dogs that bounce as they gallop through snow and generally lope instead of walk everywhere they go. He does seem to b a handful at times but don't worry......he will calm down....in 6 or 7 years ...LOL
Great set up Joe!
Thanks dude 🐥🧸😃
I kept seeing that saw sheath on his hip and had to keep reminding myself that he’s in Canada so it’s not a pistol like it should be.
Joe mama
Lul 🐣🐥🐣
@@joerivera9106 Haha, thanks for the chuckle man.
Good to see Tripper bounding about the place
Isn't it great? He practically swam through the snow, so good to see him moving so easily.
I blimin' Love ole tripper.
and these videos, they are always so relaxing. Let's you forget about the complicated stuff for a while. Simple, Natural, calm, Hard to find, in our crowded lives.
the way you treat your dog says SO MUCH about you. you're a good person, all the best to you.
Looked like a great trip.
Man i love all the sounds tripper makes, he's a good boy
Good to see you and Tripper. He’s having such a good time.
So funny how tripper talks back
Hey Joe, To deal with the ridge pole pulling out of the socket of the snow trekker, I've added a length of paracord to the kit. I larks head one end on the "Y" connector piece and then use a truckers hitch on the other. This keeps the top of the frame from pulling out when setting it up myself and as a bonus gives a clothes line inside the ridge once everything is setup.
Just like every other one, I loved it Joe. Really miss longer one's, but I'm glad to just see you and Tripper. I honestly can't wait for the next one.. I'll be waiting
That moment tripper looks up before he's getting food, so adorable!
Keep up the the great work ❤️
Joe I gotta keep it real with you, you’re videos are getting me through Air Force technical school. And trust me it is not easy with the roommate I’ve got. If you’ve ever been shaking violently because someone pissed you off, that’s me always. But you’re videos are so peaceful! It’s the perfect ratio between talking to the viewers and quiet, I usually fall asleep to these just because of how calm the video is and how soothing it is to hear your voice after a quick break of watching you chop up a tree or start a fire or even cook your meal. Thank you so much for the work you put into making these videos. Keep up the great work! I wish you and your family the best
Almost back to back episodes. This hasn't happened in years and I'm so excited. Its like its my birthday lll
True! And it IS mine ( birthday that is!)
I remember when Joe said he wasn't going to let Tripper be crazy bout sticks like Scout was. That was funny🤣🤣
Tripper looks like hes having SOOOO MUCH FUN!!!
I always felt that dogs know when it too warm for them or too cold. As much as you would think they should be cold, they are really warm. I used to just let them do what they wanted to do. I mean, they are smart enough to know what to go. I had a Husky that just wouldn't go into his Igloo dog house that I had lined with straw and I really think it was just too warm for him. If he did go into it, it was funny, he would go to sleep with his head sticking out, in the rain and the snow. A lot of the time he would just lay outside, snowing or not!!!
Dude!! You need to make a smitty sled!! Take it from an ice fisherman, when the snow is deep you want your heavy gear up out of it. Go grab 2 downhill skies and build 4 legs on them with a sorta box structure about 6 inches off the ground. Thank me later!!
Great video Joe! When you told Tripper "no" while you were chopping wood, I was sure I heard him say 37:25 " aaawww I wanna help" lol
I got a hot tent for Christmas, hopefully I’ll get to try it out soon. Glad to see you and Tripper getting out👍🏻
I just put on 1 season of Alone and couldn’t believe my eyes it’s JOE !!! Holy crap didn’t even know.
If you listen quietly enough some people say they can still hear the screams of a lost ferro rod in the deep woods of Vancouver.
Hey Joe, my Dog (GSD) doesn't want to go in his bed or blanket when she is dirty or wet. Might be the case with tripper too. They try to keep there space clean. Greetings from Germany
that sled packed up at the beggining looks like a big dead body you're pulling into the woods xD
That's off camera 😆
I was thinking toilet paper. Haha.
@@Mayur_ I wonder where Boosh is. Haven't seen him in a while. Joe? Is there something that you want to share with us?
@@florianmaschke269 That was way too loooong of a bundle to be Boosh LOL
I think the baffles are faces the wrong way. You want the holes facing inward so the smoke goes out the side holes.
Agreed
Love it enormously when the doggies are well taken care of! Gotta make sure they are warm and well fed….and looks like you do….beautiful scenery!
10:29 what a cutiepie omg, looking like "let's get the fire going Joe"
dear Joe...Thermarest makes little battery powered pad inflators. - Sincerely, a caring fan. lol
Also heated USB POWEREED SLEEPING PADS For inside the sleeping bag.
Really love your dog with you. He really likes being with you.
Love the love for the dog and lost humanity, devoid of real heat...
I served as a corporal (squad leader) in the Finnish defence forces and the greatest tips about winter camping my higher ups taught was: stamp out the snow tightly before putting on the ground sheet. Also you should wear a woollen beanie and socks with only underwear on in your sleeping bag. Some times during winter exercises the temperature dropped low as - 35 centigrade. 8 hours outside doing combat training without any fire.
Love these kinds of videos. Brings up great memories from the service.
Ive became addicted to your videos! Need more or longer videos!
Joe did you notice the lights on your tent wall? Watch it
It was happening when you were enjoying your hot chocolate. Maple Bacon? Must be Canadian thing. My wife and i love Tripper were so sad when he was sick.
Looks like a lot of fun, apart from the tear down of camp, never goes back in as neatly!
Joe man I dont know if you're gonna see this but I just need to thank you for your content. I found your videos back in mid-2015 when you did the Algonquin Highlands Loop with Doug, and since then your videos have always taught me that you don't need to have the greatest gear, be the best and when I started my RUclips journey in college (this isn't a plug I promise) that I dont need to have the best viewers to make this work on a college kid budget. I have made the best memories with my friends paddling and backpacking across Canada and the Adirondacks and I just want to thank you for your content man. Its always been an inspiration and I wish you all the success in the world.
Good content joe thanks, I loved the vid
Joe. Would you ever consider talking with Matthew Posa and doing a camping trip with your dogs? Love both of your guys' channels!
I've been thinking about it too. It would be my ultimate colab dream!
It’s a winter-camping-with-tripper life for me 🥶❤️
when you think another useful item couldn't be thought up , there's the chimney support pole , genius really isn't it ?Such a simple idea .
This guy seems like such a noble and good hearted person. And a great survivor of the wild with a particular efficient set of skills
Yes! Just got done rewatching the fort series start to finish and you upload! Lovely stuff. Watched your update too, glad you're up and running! Praise Elon!
Tripper is a good dog, he's fun, but I can't help associating hot tent videos with Scout, he was the best
Ohhh Tripper.... so impatient sometimes. I love how vocal he gets when he wants the wood/sticks.
Love the way he tries to take all of your sticks! So adorable!
That ground sheet looks awesome ..
Friday has come early! 😍
Just came across your channel, and enjoyed it very much. I had a Dutch Shepherd for 8 years, when I was a law enforcement K9 handler. Best dog I ever had. Still miss him. Seeing yours brought back a lot of great memories. Thank you so much !
Texas I with you in spirit and weather this time bud.
Tripper might be a little wired, but he is also very smart and very sweet. He’s a great dog.
Joe..you should do a "fails and bloopers" video
to know that i have been watching you for 8 years over my two different channels and still be entertained is great
I watch a lot of bush craft clips, and a lot of them bring with the dogs, but I've noticed Joe is the only one who really cares about his dog, he really treats his dog as a buddy. Joe talks to the dog, cares about what the dog is doing. It make me feel so warmhearted. Thank you Joe and Tripper. God bless you both! 💖💖
This is not true. Matthew Posa is loving Monty and take care of him as Tripper get treated. Matthew is cooking for him, hugging Monty, sleeping pad, blanket, warm fireplace, and speaking to him.
@@jana8363 Thanking for letting me know. I haven't watch all others, probably I just watched someone who didn't care about too much the dog. Sorry that I was mistaken. 🙏🙏
A mystery guest on the upcoming big trip. Someone whom we haven’t seen in some time.I wonder who it could be. Perhaps Mike, Kyle, or Shawn James; or even Scrambled O.🤙😎
I'm thinkin' Doug
That was my first thought, but it’s been a long time since we saw Shawn and Joe together on an adventure. And Shawn was recently talking about it getting close to time for a first paddle. Either way, I’ll be watching.🤙😎
Oh man that just looks like absolute fun! I sent the link to my dad trying to convince him to take me out on a trip like this: he said whos going to lug the sled and i said well of course you dad! hahaha, great video Joe!
Its awesome seeing Tripper in the videos again, running around barking at only he know what.
So genuinely soothing. Thanks and nice to see you have a good time.
wow so much snow, and very late. we got a late summer here in australia, love your video's :) they chill me out !
About time. I’ve been thinking about this upload every second of every day since the last one
Thrilled to see Tripper out with you. Certainly prayers for your brave daughter and her sister as well as your amazing wife. God bless you all. From Bakersfield California USA.
Thanks for the video Joe. So good to see Tripper doing so well, and talking your ear off. Glad you are going on an adventure with a friend. Take care, stay warm and well.
So great to see Tripper running around like that
One of my favorite things on RUclips is seeing you cook steak.
Every time I watch your videos you remind me of my dad, he passed away two years ago and looked like you, he would have loved to do the things you do! I appreciate your uploads!
Staying warm while camping is always good.
Tripper should have a sweater/coat in that weather.
I think he's fine, he's so active he worked up a lot of heat. Like Joe said he wasn't shivering at all
Tripper isn’t a pug dog like yours..
Its a dog. So sick seeing city folks bying deformed dog breeds that suffer at all times, like the one in your profile picture. All double coated dogs are generally fine if its warmer than -20°C. Tripper has lived his whole life in canada and is well aclimatised. Putting a jacket on him at -13 would be ridiculous.
@@patsyts4331 it's a French bulldog with an actual healthy looking snout. And since when does snout length affect a dog's ability to stay warm? Weird to act so dismissive of people when you don't know much about the topic
Greetings from Houston, Sure wish i Had a camping setup like this one right now!
Hope you all can stay warm and alive there. Rough weather this week.
Tripper is the true definition of a Dutch Shepard/Belgian Malnois, just go, go , go, then FLOP sleepy time. He looks so much like my boy Whiskey. Just remember to keep him some water. Awesome video.
Your dog is great @Joe Robinet. Life is good men. Just camping ang enjoying life all -year round. Vacation mode all -the-time❗️❗️❗️
