i recently bought a brand new branch chopper called " Rebak Niebieski W102" Made in Poland - powered by PTO of my 30hp 1973 Ursus C330 Tractor . This machine is superb - it is New (cost about 1100 US $) and can chop a dry hard wood like oak to 9cm diameter or 12cm (5inch ) wet wood branches like pine. It really save my precious time
Im up in years ,Dad is right we may not been limping as hard if we had more modern machinery, but built that from a scrap machine and got stuff done, i admire him and please wish him my best, from sunny warm Canada 😂

Love that splitter and you are so right, cutting your own wood for heat is so satisfying. I heated our large house on 5 acres of woods for 33 years, using just a maul. Nothing like it!

The smile on your face says it all. The fact that your Dad is there and the family is watching from the yard is great. Your home always looks well maintained and pristine. My Mom wanted a wood burning fireplace in the house we built here in 1966. Dad said he had cut and split enough wood as a kid that wasn't having one. There was a free standing gas log fireplace.
Wonderful video. Love your Dad, reminds me of my father. We worked together for over 40 years; he was always surprised and elated when I brought a new tool home. We built houses. The whole house from start to finish, we had allot of tools and whenever i brought something home that would save labor or our backs he was deleted. Oh I didn't tell you , he was very cheap. I'm 70 and have been splitting Aussie hardwood since 1980 by hand ie with an axe/maul . I've only ever split wood for my own needs (about 10cubic metres per winter). Neil you must be 'loaded' with all the toys you have. I saw an Easton made splitter demonstrated by Buckin Billy a few years ago and was suitable impressed. Great! They sound like lovely kids by the way; treasure them while you have them and 'stuff the wood splitter'!

i used wood and coal to heat my home for yrs till we built our house in 02-03, then with with oil-fired hot water heat. i have spent $3-grand a winter for fuel oil -if my knee hadn't gave out on me in 2001, i wanted to put in a outdoor furnace back then. them are nice splitters for sure, i wood have to agree with ur dad--where was they 40 yrs ago-ha! the nice thing is to get the wood up to the table, without lifting a place to work level, just a all around nice machine-IMO. back when i was working for a LTL trucking outfit, when a splitter came across the dock, we hauled Wolf's back then, man i would just stand and admire them machines great video-thanks.

Great firewood videos! 👍👍 My job and location no longer have me processing firewood. I had a system that worked for me back where I used to live. I had a wood shed attached to the house that held 5 cords, which was one year's worth. Both wood stoves had pass-through wood boxes close to that shed. Each of those pass-throughs held enough wood for two days, and each had a small box on top of them accessed only from outside with enough wood for two more days. At the mid point of my yard, I had a walk through cordwood shed that held 5 cords on each side of the aisle. Behind that, I had log racks that held enough logs, cut into 8 foot lengths, to make 10 more cords of firewood. By the log racks, I had my own x-frame log horses that would hold one log and had preset spots to use a chainsaw to cut the logs into rounds. The rounds were hand loaded onto a 16-ton splitter with a four-way head. I used canvas tarps to be able to collect the sawdust, which I sold, and was able to cover my bar-oil costs. So my heating costs were the gas for the saw and splitter, the gas for my truck to go out in the woods to where I was legally allowed to cut wood, and of course my own labour. I always had five years of wood on hand at the start of any winter. There's a great satisfaction to being self-sufficient and cutting your own wood.
I rented a splitter last week and the wedge stopped 3 inches before it got thru the round. I was splitting hard maple and I had to pull it apart the rest of the way. I’m convinced those eastonmades are the best of the best. Firewood is somewhat of a novelty in Alabama. Not many people burn it in the house anymore and there are very few people with outdoor boilers.

It started out fun, but I didn't think I'd be burning as much as I am; it's just satisfying to light that fire! My dad lives in north Wisconsin, I was up there 3 weeks ago, helping him get ready for winter. We split up about 3.5 cords of wood with a rental splitter. I thought that one was good, I wish we could have found that one to rent, my back probably would not have been so soar! Thanks for the video. Y’all remind me of my dad and I.
Impressive machine, I know what your dad means 50 years ago would have been great. My dad burned wood for most of 50 years, I helped him out often. We would go up to the mountains here in Colorado and cut wood for 3 to 4 days. Stacking it up behind his house to dry for over a year before spitting it. I like the splitting machine, I just wish it leaned back a bit and the wedge was a plus. I can also see where it should be moved back, so it can not hit the plate on the back of the wedge.

Neil… our Frankensplitter is a pride and joy to my neighbor Mike and I. The experience of finding all the parts… repurposing them and having it work (right down to the Murray mower dashboard) is a satisfaction we share every time we use it! (In all fairness, Mike did most of the finding and fabricating!) However, we built it when we were in our 30’s. Now that we are in our 60’s our pride is buried beneath the toll it puts on the two of us to feed and handle the wood. Mike and I have been talking… neither of us wants to give up wood burning. Neither of us is ready to give up processing it, either. However… we are both ready for a change in our approach. We’ve talked about modifying the splitter and have a lot of ideas about how. Where we sit now is… Will there be a Son of Frankensplitter? Or, will we replace it so we can repurpose it’s pieces and parts into other projects? We are leaning heavily toward retiring it…. You see, we’ve matured to realize that the splitter is only a tool. Using something else doesn’t diminish the fact that it was a great experience for us. Nor, does it lessen our DIY prowess. Because in the end… a guy has to make choices. Spending a month or so to birth Son of Frankensplitter doesn’t seem logical to either of us. We have moved on to many other building projects. (For example: My next video will highlight how we turned a tractor tire rim into a pretty nice fire pit.) I’ll share a link to this with Mike and we can throw it onto the short list of viable options. I was curious what the maximum height is under the wedge? How wide is the bed beneath the wedge? Is there a model name or number that I can reference as I research it? So Neil, don’t fret about the lost opportunity to DIY your own perfect processor. Instead expend that energy modifying your wood acquisition, handling and storage processes. Make them as efficient and personally fit to your needs as you can. That journey can be just as rewarding as birthing your own Frankensplitter! I’m so glad that Axiss reached out to you. However, I am not surprised. After all, you are the kind of high volume, well spoken, sincere user they need to have as a spokesperson! PS: that’s the exact cap I wanna order. Can you send me a link?
So well said Dave. I thought of Frankensplitter all through the process of making this video. Your video on him is terrific and undoubtedly influenced the narrative here. I love your story about it. I embrace your advice with full expectation to do exactly as you say. I hope to streamline the process and change the way we do. Firewood in order to keep it sustainable for at least another decade moving forward. Frankly, it's the only exercise I get some weeks so I hate to give it up and spend more time in a chair. Easternmade fanboy here. Love watching new people discover this machine. Great for all the reasons you mentioned. You’ll get more efficient with it in time, recommend you watch the videos out there. Making perpendicular cuts helps a lot when cutting as well as consistent lengths. Enjoy, the addiction has begun.

That's nice, no bending over , no logs falling over on your toes after they split. Wish I would of seen this setup.before buying my new splitter, it works great but it's the regular style, it does flip up vertically or horizontally but it's too.low.

hi there easton sure make nice well made splitters . i made my splitter around 50 years ago and now its doing better than me . i cut wood and split wood different than most people and find it to be faster and easier .at elastin my mind . i have talked to andrew but doesn't seem interested but thats fine cause some day they will realize the old man may have had something . happy splitting john

Very nice! I had the same Huskee splitter for 13 years. That machine would split absolutely everything I could throw at it, but when I was done with last season's wood, I retired it and sold it in lieu of a 12-22. I was really leaning towards an Axis, but I had the limitation of not having a building with a tall enough door to accommodate the height of the cylinder. My logs are coming this week, so soon I'll be firing mine up to break her in! Eastonmade makes a top notch product, and we're lucky to have a company like them around. I live in the city and only burn wood in a firepit. I am quite handy and have an engineering-ish mind and like to watch wood splitting videos among many other interests. The first time I saw a vertical splitter with a table, I knew that was the way to go!! I love to see you, your Dad and family all involved. You are also a good video producer, I'd love to edit for you if you ever need one.

I bought my son a DR inertial log splitter and he loves how fast the machine splits logs.

My dad lives in north Wisconsin, I was up there 3 weeks ago, helping him get ready for winter. We split up about 3.5 cords of wood with a rental splitter. I thought that one was good, I wish we could have found that one to rent, my back probably would not have been so soar! Thanks for the video. Y’all remind me of my dad and I.

Impressive machine, I know what your dad means 50 years ago would have been great.
My dad burned wood for most of 50 years, I helped him out often. We would go up to the mountains here in Colorado and cut wood for 3 to 4 days. Stacking it up behind his house to dry for over a year before spitting it.
I like the splitting machine, I just wish it leaned back a bit and the wedge was a plus.
I can also see where it should be moved back, so it can not hit the plate on the back of the wedge.
Cannot beat the Axis. Enjoy Neil.

Neil… our Frankensplitter is a pride and joy to my neighbor Mike and I. The experience of finding all the parts… repurposing them and having it work (right down to the Murray mower dashboard) is a satisfaction we share every time we use it! (In all fairness, Mike did most of the finding and fabricating!)
However, we built it when we were in our 30’s. Now that we are in our 60’s our pride is buried beneath the toll it puts on the two of us to feed and handle the wood.
Mike and I have been talking… neither of us wants to give up wood burning. Neither of us is ready to give up processing it, either. However… we are both ready for a change in our approach.
We’ve talked about modifying the splitter and have a lot of ideas about how. Where we sit now is… Will there be a Son of Frankensplitter? Or, will we replace it so we can repurpose it’s pieces and parts into other projects?
We are leaning heavily toward retiring it…. You see, we’ve matured to realize that the splitter is only a tool. Using something else doesn’t diminish the fact that it was a great experience for us. Nor, does it lessen our DIY prowess. Because in the end… a guy has to make choices. Spending a month or so to birth Son of Frankensplitter doesn’t seem logical to either of us. We have moved on to many other building projects. (For example: My next video will highlight how we turned a tractor tire rim into a pretty nice fire pit.)
I’ll share a link to this with Mike and we can throw it onto the short list of viable options.
I was curious what the maximum height is under the wedge? How wide is the bed beneath the wedge? Is there a model name or number that I can reference as I research it?
So Neil, don’t fret about the lost opportunity to DIY your own perfect processor. Instead expend that energy modifying your wood acquisition, handling and storage processes. Make them as efficient and personally fit to your needs as you can. That journey can be just as rewarding as birthing your own Frankensplitter!

So well said Dave. I thought of Frankensplitter all through the process of making this video. Your video on him is terrific and undoubtedly influenced the narrative here. I love your story about it.
I embrace your advice with full expectation to do exactly as you say. I hope to streamline the process and change the way we do. Firewood in order to keep it sustainable for at least another decade moving forward. Frankly, it's the only exercise I get some weeks so I hate to give it up and spend more time in a chair.

Easternmade fanboy here. Love watching new people discover this machine. Great for all the reasons you mentioned. You’ll get more efficient with it in time, recommend you watch the videos out there. Making perpendicular cuts helps a lot when cutting as well as consistent lengths. Enjoy, the addiction has begun.

That's nice, no bending over , no logs falling over on your toes after they split. Wish I would of seen this setup.before buying my new splitter, it works great but it's the regular style, it does flip up vertically or horizontally but it's too.low.

hi there easton sure make nice well made splitters . i made my splitter around 50 years ago and now its doing better than me . i cut wood and split wood different than most people and find it to be faster and easier .at elastin my mind . i have talked to andrew but doesn't seem interested but thats fine cause some day they will realize the old man may have had something . happy splitting john

Very nice! I had the same Huskee splitter for 13 years. That machine would split absolutely everything I could throw at it, but when I was done with last season's wood, I retired it and sold it in lieu of a 12-22. I was really leaning towards an Axis, but I had the limitation of not having a building with a tall enough door to accommodate the height of the cylinder. My logs are coming this week, so soon I'll be firing mine up to break her in! Eastonmade makes a top notch product, and we're lucky to have a company like them around. Get yourself a pickaroon for moving those rounds over to the splitter. What a difference that makes on your back! Congratulations on your new machine and I look forward to seeing more of it!

I live in the city and only burn wood in a firepit. I am quite handy and have an engineering-ish mind and like to watch wood splitting videos among many other interests. The first time I saw a vertical splitter with a table, I knew that was the way to go!!

You need to use hearing protection. You don't realize how that high pitch running sound can and will damage your hearing.
