And so you should be concerned...a few Senior citizen tenants living in basement units lost their lives during NYC flashfloods a couple years back ! Im also concerned about all the Plumbing / Waterworks Infrastructure that gets weakened and destroyed by such natural disasters. Household Insurance claims are going to go through the roof.

In 2007, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire (just to help, that's not in London), received over 6" rain in 6 hours. If you saw the latest news RE a water company (Southern Water) misbehaving you would have seen the highest fine ever given - £90m, for knowingly and continuously pouring raw sewage into coastal waters.
Turns out the water company had factored the max fine into their costings and it's cheaper to be fined £90m than it is to deal with the sewage in a responsible manner.
Add in the fact that the Environment Agency (who investigate pollution and who took that water company to court - they don't usually manage as they are under-resourced and the water companies self report) have taken a 60% budget cut since the tories came into power and you understand why there are hundreds of incidents from these big water comlanies every day. Oh, don't forget the tories also wound back regulation so it looked like they were making a saving - these water companies are now allowed to self report incidents. Like asking a starving dog to look after an open bag of treats.
The government have made Offwat and the EA toothless zs they have with many environmental and animal protections.
The Mayors office has no power over funding the EA, no sway with offwat, or in regulating the water companies. We need government to do this, but they won't.

Even if global cooling were happening, London would still flood. It has always flooded and will continue to flood. Tube stations are the biggest stories here as stations like Harrow-On-The-Hill (clues in the name) will never flood whereas Wimbledon, look on the contours, you'll see what I mean.
I don't know how many people have been told about putting stuff down the drain but again "it's someone else's problem".
