It was my first airplane ever, so I was very happy to fly it and didn’t notice any issues. Thanks CRJ for introducing the whole aviation world to me! I love it.
I’m actually a pilot for air wisconsin which is the regional airline that flies this route for American as our headquarters is in Appleton. Fun fact is that the 200s are actually known for landing softer than the 7s and 9s because they have a trailing link gear which absorbs a lot of the shock. But regionals in general have less experienced pilots than mainline so that’s probably why the landings are more often harder.
Not saying there were kinks to start with but normally when they come out with new engine types or new aircraft there’s usually stuff they got to work out. Like the problem Spirit is having with the engines on their NEOs rn
I remember flying out of Appleton to Minneapolis for a connecting flight. Appleton is a very small airport. I think the CRJ is a good plane to fly in, if the plane is like half full lmao. Glad to see you're vlogging more keep it up!
Tbf the crj200 is usually owned by regional airlines and mostly now really practical it is fine, just a bit small and would prefer something like a 737 or a 320 this crj is also very crampped
I live about a half an hour away from KAPL (in Green Bay) and have only flown out of it once to go to Atlanta, but it is one of my favorite airports that I have been to because it was so quiet and it has the architecture of a large hub airport but has the small town feel to it at the same time. And I always fly out of KGRB and go to Chicago, and those flights are always tiny crappy CRJs, and I always thought that little bridge from the jetway to the plane was normal, but apparently not! Sorry for wasting your time reading this, but I always love when youtubers and celebrities come to Wisconsin! I hope you enjoyed your time in America's Dairyland, Nik!
I actually still am in Oshkosh with the USAF. We had a day on our own just kinda having fun. When I fly back home on friday, I will reserve myself a spot with the USAF for Oshkosh 2024. Hope u coming ;)
I like how at 8:11 he says you don’t see a lot of 21 year old planes but I’m about to fly on a 25 year old Airbus A320 Edit: I’m at the gate and the planes next to me are 27 and 28 years old
People forget how many 20+ year old 737's and A320's are still in service. They just don't notice it that much because they're still produced frequently.
I was on the Lex Ky Airport Board when the CRJ 200 was introduced. Since it was the first regional jet, they took us for a demo ride. Compared to the existing regional turboprops this jet was Nirvana. After several trips I came to loathe this plane and will not ride on them. I’ll either drive or fly privately.
I've often flown on the CRJ200 and 900 and I've never really minded as long as the flight was under 2 hours. I just wear some cancelling headphones to drown out the noise and give the gate agent the carry on suitcase to put in the hold so that I don't have to fight for overhead space. Could it be better? Yes, but it's the price to pay for more flights at convenient times.
I had the same window sensation back in 2001, when I flew in it 6 legs. Thankfully, for the -700/-900/-1000 members of the family, a slight larger and better positioned window was designed for them. ;)
A short flight on a rather empty CRJ-200 is sooo much fun! Yes, it feels cramped. Yes, it is noisy. Yes, the windows are tiny. Yes, it may be underpowered when fully loaded. If you share the plane with let's say 10 other passengers, it feels agile and nimble, like a sports car of the skies. 😊
Wow, you flew my most hated plane on my most hated airline! 😂 I always had to connect in Chicago from where I live in Ohio to get anywhere and they ALWAYS put us on the CRJ. Fortunately, United finally upgraded so it’s been a while now since I’ve been on one. Oh the [not so] fond memories!
Meh, it's not that bad. The CRJ is a fine plane if you experience other airlines' CRJ's which are often superior to US airline CRJ's. Why do you hate American Airlines?
I have a love/hate relationship with that airplane. I love it because it was the first jet I ever flew (it could even have been the one in this video, I was a pilot for Air Wisconsin), and you never forget your first. But wow it is an incredibly uncomfortable airplane. To be fair, the CRJ was not designed to replace other jets, it was designed to replace Saab 340s and EMB-120s, and in that role, it was a significant improvement. People loved CRJs when they first hit the market. The problems began when they started replacing 737s and DC-9s, as the CRJ is a significant step backwards.
I can't believe it!! I was in OshKosh at the Air Academy a few weeks before Airventure (sadly I missed it) and I took the exact same flight from Appleton to Chicago!! I was in seat 1A since I was flying as an unaccompanied minor. I think it is a fun plane to fly on since it is small and you can feel how the plane flies a lot better. I just didn't like the tiny windows and small ceiling. Appleton was the first small airport that I have flown out of commercially and it was a fun experience except for when they took my sunscreen :(. Anyways, I love your content, it is getting better. Keep it up and I hope you had fun in Oskkosh.
Also, (comment 2) - the CRJ was never intended to be a commercial jet! It was designed as a private jet. Talk to any mechanic and they will tell you more duct tape than metal on them all. Well, same could be said about ERJ-135 ;)
Hey Swiss, one of your discord mods here, just wanted to say we were on the call with that kid who you met at oshkosh, the one he was on a discord call with you, you were wearing the red shirt? xD
I flew with CRJ-1000 (CRK) of Garuda Indonesia's "Explore Jet" brand. CRK is longer, and suckier than CRJ-200. I flew from WIII - WIKT - WIII. The novel idea of "Explore Jet" is to flew to "exotic holiday destination". And being 5-star airline, the ticket is expensive for a seat in crappy cramped airplane. And since it is CRJ-1000, they don't get to land in short runway too. WIKT (Tanjung Pandan airport, Belitung) has a long enough runway to be landed by A320 and 737-800. So competitions from low cost carriers, offered far superior A320 and 737 seats at much cheaper price. The only saving grace for CRK is probably its lower 780 kg / hour fuel burn per engine, instead of A320ceo's 1,200 kg / hour. But then again, according to the airline, because it is so rare, the operating cost is just as expensive as 737-800, while featuring less seat. The CRJ looks cool, the CRK is very long, which make them look like a pencil. But everything inside is very ugly. The wing is ugly from the inside, there is not much too look at. There is just no redeeming quality for this stretched private jet. Its comptency as a passenger jet is just like a spoiled rich brat trying to be a McDonald's cashier - they'll ended up less capable and annoy customers. Nobody cared about its private jet pedigree.
If you want to complain about a small commuter plane - the Swearingen Fairchild Metroliner. No standing up...nope. Loud. But it get you there and that is the point.
I too despise this plane, particularly for the "wall" view if sitting upright. I almost have to bend at the waist to see out of the thing. While the ERJ 135/145 are equally tiny, the seats themselves are quite nice, and once seated, you have much more room and a much better view out of the Embraer.
Ibex of Japan flew CRJ-200 exclusively for years, and now flies exclusively CRJ-700. Would need to check with the Japanese aviation fans but I never heard people complain about it...
The US seems to love those CRJ regional jets. Dominating their domesting regional market. There's hardly any other small passenger aircraft type found there (ATR? almost non-existent)
@@thecaynuck Read over what I said again Look at the market. Bombardier/Mitsubishi walked away from regional jets. Embraer is the ONLY MANUFACTURER of what many consider a "regional jet." It makes no sense for an airline to spend all that money to send 25 people from Akron to Orlando on an old, inefficient CRJ-200, when those 25 people can drive a little extra to join 135 others going from Cleveland to Orlando on an A320. It costs way less for everybody, which is why airlines are moving away from regional jets. The A320/A319, A220, and 737 Max 7/8s are entirely taking over in regional flights. It doesn't take an idiot to see that, either. Everybody agrees that regional jets are dying.
