This is strange. Why would Johnny Cash sing a Nick Cave song. The new generation will think it was originally a Johnny Cash song because Johnny Cash is a older singer. In years to come when Nick Cave is no longer here THEY will make as if it was a Johnny Cash song originally and no one will know that it was not Johnny Cash! They are sinister! Why is this done with Depeche mode and Nick Cave?
If you do your research you will find interviews with Nick Cave where he expressed how honored he was that Johnny Cash chose to sing his song. Also, you will find that Nick Cave appreciated Johnny’s interpretation of this song that he has also performed it in similar fashion since Johnny Cash died. Johnny honored Nick and Nick was honored as well. Why are you putting such a negative spin on something that is positive and good? Nick Cave didn’t and it’s his song!!

They did nothing to challenge or resist
In Heaven His throne is made of gold
The ark of His Testament is stowed
A throne from which I'm told
All history does unfold.
It's made of wood and wire
And my body is on fire
And God is never far away
Into the mercy seat I climb
My head is shaved, my head is wired
And like a moth that tries
To enter the bright eye
I go shuffling out of life
Just to hide in death awhile
And, anyway, I never lied
And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this weighing of the truth
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth
And, anyway, I told the truth
And I'm not afraid to die.
And the mercy seat is burning
And I think my head is glowing
And in a way I'm hoping
To be done with all this twistin' of the truth
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth
And, anyway, there was no proof
And I'm not afraid to die
And the mercy seat is glowing
And I think my head is smokin'
And in a way I'm hoping
To be done with all these looks of disbelief.
A life for a life
And a truth for a truth
And I've got nothing left to lose
And I'm not afraid to die
And the mercy seat is smokin'
And I think my head is melting
And in a way that's helping
To be done with all this twistin' of the truth
An eye for an eye
And a truth for a truth
And, anyway, I told the truth
But I'm afraid I told a lie.
This song reminds me of the green mile
@dani cali the lie: he was afraid to die...
Great cover from Nick Caves original
I’m done with an eye for an eye & a tooth for a tooth!
Johnny for ever 🖕Amazing cover!
mesmeric
But I must add Nick Cave is a genius
Which Cagney film is this?
Not Mark Wright from Finley nsw?
What movie is this
Are we honorable echoes asking a master?
Johnny Cash.... fuck, I 's have loved to hear him do more Nick Cave.
It all began when
They took me from my home
And put me on death row
A crime for which I am totally innocent, you know
I began to warm and chill
To objects and their fields
A ragged cup, a twisted mop
The face of Jesus in my soup
Those sinister dinner deals
The meal trolley's wicked wheels
A hooked bone rising from my food
And all things either good or un-good
And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this weighing of the truth
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth and I'm not afraid to die
I hear stories from the chamber
Christ was born into a manger
And like some ragged stranger
He died upon the cross
Might I say, it seems
So fitting in its way
He was a carpenter by trade
Or at least that's what I'm told
My kill-hand's tattooed 'E.V.I.L.'
Across it's brother's fist
That filthy five, they did nothing
To challenge or resist
In Heaven, His throne is made of gold
The ark of His Testament is stowed
A throne from which I'm told
All history does unfold
It's made of wood and wire
And my body is on fire
And God is never far away
Into the mercy seat I climb
My head is shaved, my head is wired
And like a moth that tries to enter the bright eye
I go shuffling out of life
Just to hide in death awhile
And anyway I never lied
And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this weighing of the truth
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth and anyway
I told the truth and I'm not afraid to die
And the mercy seat is burning
And I think my head is glowing
And in a way I'm hoping
To be done with all this twisting of the truth
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
And anyway there was no proof and I'm not afraid to die
And the mercy seat is glowing
And I think my head is smoking
And in a way I'm hoping to be done
With all these looks of disbelief
A life for a life and a truth for a truth
And I've got nothing left to lose
And I'm not afraid to die
And the mercy seat is smoking
And I think my head is melting
And in a way that's helping
To be done with all this twisting of the truth
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth but I'm afraid I told a lie
As much as it's good - Nick Cave is the best

I'm johnny cash
I don't actually believe in ppl covering others work....it does work on occasion though like the legend of Johnny Cash. Some make everything great.
The like he told was that he wasn't afraid to die
If you want nightmares, set it to 0.25x speed. 😂
when you lie to yourself so much and end up actually believing it. Just to realise last second its not true
Why he got arrested
Murder, the song says it, as for the movie I've got no idea
Another iconic Johny Cash song that was accidentally written by another guy...
Who came here because of Peaky Blinders like me ?
Great cover of an awesome song, love them equally but Nick's voice and style on the original sounds like his character actually belongs in the Mercy Seat.... I'd love to think it's Nick playing the piano in JC's version..... Right now I listen often to this Perfect, beautiful cover by Nick and Johnny.... ruclips.net/video/j1lbwnccvCc/видео.html
Peaky Blinders S4E2 brought me here.
same 11 months later
Death is often better than life in hell.Peace.
steviebkhall The last chorus’s last line heavily implies that he IS afraid of death - “But I’m afraid I told a lie” in place of “And I’m not afraid to die”.
This song also goes well with The Green Mile story ...
It’s good, but it’s kinda pointless covering this one
Nick cave gives u the experience
This is just a song…
