This is why refs and commentary should be eligible for HOF it's everyone working together to put on a show and some of the refs taking a bump for the fans is their dedication to the craft
Sad that the historical carnival wrestling culture has almost died out, even the remnants of jargon. The business has probably the most fascinating origins of any sport/performance genre, and almost no one is still alive who knows about it, even the kids in the ring.
I imagine it's more like "$#!t! What the ___ are you doing damnit?!? Noooo! You ruined the spot, two seconds late! I'm going to ___ on your head when you get to the back! I love Brock!!!"
Tbf I do wonder how well Chioda can actually speak it since he only ever repeatedly gave the same examples. Sure minute counts are one of the most important things he'll say to a talent but it's hardly the only thing.
I broke into the business (just indies) in 2004. I spoke carny but very few of my peers did. I imagine it’s almost totally gone by now. Never once did I use it to call a spot. Just while talking business at the after party or something like that.
Wow Vince truly was a tyrant not only was he screaming into the announcers ear piece telling them what to say but he did the same thing with the referees I don't understand the need to countdown every single minute I can understand telling the referees they have 5 minutes 2 minutes etc but every minute they do a countdown?? That's insane

💩 take
_"They dont teach you Carny in school?"_
Well, Get on it Mike!

Legendary ref
Mike Chioda's carny: saying numbers
Hulk Hogan's carny: Bizig bizoobs
When you spend your much of your life waiting on people you get really good at predicting and managing time

Wait wait wait… am I just learning the reason it’s called gorilla position is because Gorilla Monsoon sat there ?!?
I didn't know at first either. My dumb ass thought they sat by the curtain like a gorilla. 😂

Being a Referee and WWE star has to be so hard😂

If you haven’t replaced the lyrics of My Sharona with Mike Chioda you aren’t my friend
They definitely didn't teach that in the hood. 😂😂😂
Mike Chioda was the best wwe ref
Watch the full interview with Mike Chioda on my main channel here: ruclips.net/video/VQxKm5_SvRk/видео.html
He's still standing looking confused holding a MITB briefcase.
incredible chat
Best referee
Good interview
Cvv wouldn't never made it 20 years ago exposing the industry like he does
Oh hellllll nah . Vince woulda put a hit on this dude
@@JaaySnipesyea the 90’s I could def see that happening
@@JaaySnipes lmao exact words I was thinking reading his comment before checking the replies
Late 90s early 2000s , off the record with Michael Landesberg . Great interviews , out of character. Watch those, very good stuff
Kayfabe died years ago so it doesn't really matter anymore.
This is what I like to hear about, the technical stuff of wrestling 😂
lol makes me think of Kizarny
holy deep voice!
Definitely a chain smoker
Damn and I thought Don Callis was the only one that spoke Carny

TOMMY YOUNG IS TRULY HALL OF FAME Material!!! He was a Long time Ref Before his NWA Days!!

Thats good to know because I'm aspiring to be a pro wrestler.
Good luck baby
Mattel needs to make a figure of Mike 💯
I always wondered why they didn’t make refs! I had sone special ‘guest referees’ tho
I thought they did
Assumed it was common knowledge what the gorilla position is, they named it after his passing no?
It was the Gorilla position from about a year after he started sitting there. It just never lost the name after he stopped (RIP)

So carnys have a language all their own?? Good to know
Odd that Theo Von had a carny on his podcast last week and they talked about the carny language.
Mizark 😂
Interesting!
Y isn’t he still referring is my question
That's insane that they are not teaching them "carny" anymore. How the business changes through the generations.
Cool
Wrestling’s fake? Screw this I’m out
I hate Hearing All the DEDICATED NWA Wrestlers that never wrestled for Vince that have Become WWE people instead of either TNA or AEW..
I just hated this guy..He was always in the way
