This is one of the best, most thought provoking videos you've done. It makes a very complex decision process more understandable. Thank you
0:25 Hera telling us to break the law. Clearly Spirit of the Law is the better Canadian, encouraging us to be better Law obiding citizens.
I appreciate when someone breaks down the reasoning behind something and takes the time to explain the principles instead of just telling me "the answer" or "the solution". Thank you!
This one was really great and well explained. I like these kinds of videos where you talk about the method of decision making instead of the decision itself, which is so much more useful than an answer in this complicated game.
Damn hera. You have out done yourself on this one. I always knew about transitions but never really thought about it this way. This is 100% going to help my gameplay increase! Thanks as always.
You always deliver Tier S content, but this one is truly Diamond+++ video, thanks once again, Hera
A wonderful approach to explaining the possibly most difficult strategy topic in all of AOE2.
Apart from placing and timing castles of course ☺️
The hun longswords reference is not lost on me!
i confess it is lost on me. what's the story?
@@taraburnett there was a tournament game between hera and liereyy iirc. Hera was up against franks as Huns. The game went on and on and both sides massed knights. Liereyy also mixed pikemen in, as a cheap counter to Hera's knights. Hera was (and still kinda is) of the mindset, that cav archers suck (TBF, they were worse back then). So in order to counter Liereyys pikemen, he went into longswords. As Huns. Which is kinda bad, cause 1. They lack key technologies, 2. Militia line was way worse back then compared to now, 3. Liereyys knights counter Hera's longswords, 4. Huns have pikemen too and 5. They have cavalry archers, which are a good counter to pikemen, discounted for Huns, decent against knights and scale infinitely better into lategame then Hun longswords.
But yeah, hera lost that game.
@@JohnnyRamoni this is funny as hell and i appreciate the story
Bringing the whole community up a level with videos like this, cheers Hera!
Think I might've said this before, but the channel split definitely made it easier for me to follow this type of content from you. Before it was getting buried in with gameplay vids, since the split I've been watching like 80% of videos as opposed to 20%. Hope the algorithm has been serving you well
You do a really good job at making your videos and explaining things in depth. I feel that this video in particular will be a valuable resource to recommend to my noob friends trying to learn the game.
This is an amazing video Hera, I really appreciate videos like this, talking us through the thought process and decision making. I find that more useful and educational than plain build orders (although those are appreciated too). Thank you very much!
Amazing as usual, great concepts
Excellent content on point- continue the great work!
Amazing video, thank you for this! ❤
this is such a great video! it is obvious you put a ton of effort into this one.
Great video dude, super helpful in-depth insight on something I struggle with in my gameplay
Great Video, never really understood this before. Thanks Hera.
Excellent work! Thank you!
Love this kind of videos!❤
What a video! This game still amazes me everytime. Years playing and still something to lear about it
Thanks Hera, good job at explaining a difficult part of the game!
This helped me so much, you spoke about things i never thought about!
Great video as always. Thanks Hera
This is the best video you have done of explaining concepts, really good work
One of the best guide video you've made IMO ! 😊
Love this content bro. Good video
May my opps never see this video
Great video Hera! Often times I transition late because I blank on the correct transition at the moment. Especially in games that often involve compositions with siege on Arena.
Transition is one (Of many) areas I struggle with… thank you very much for the insightful guidance.
Honestly one of the best strategic decision makings video out there!
This is one of your best videos! Well done Hamzah
Thank you for the detailed explanations
I never thought about soft vs hard transitions. Really interesting and useful. It explains a lot. Amazing stuff
Excellent, thanks for the upload.
Ya, vids like this really open up the theory/philosophy behind the game which is alot of fun
Loved this, think might have value even beyond aoe2 someways, good input, thanks from Italy.
Truly a great source to learn and view the logical thought map of someone so advanced. Thanks for the efforts you put for us plebs
Great though provoking vid Hera - thanks. 👍
good info and could see all the prep you put into the multitude of screens
also graphics for me seemed to be extra clear & crisp, not sure the difference but watch tons of age channels
GOOD STUFF BRO !
Once again great content
nice you are elevating the whole community and the average line
One of your best videos
Very intuitive and needed subject. Try to include more videos on this subject.
Great video thanks. Sitting at 800 Elo I've had many games when I'm up to feudal and cattails faster but still lose due to these mistakes around unit comp and transition. Keep up the great content.
Really helpful!
One of the best videos for new AoEII players!
Great info never thought of the Uni/workshop/monastery as a short term counter but makes sense with less resources needed. Need to use this more often for sure.
I rarely comment on videos but this blew my mind... Hope you can make more similar guides!
Probably the best video you ever made, at least for me.
Thanks a lot! You are now a very mature player. It is great to have you back to AOE. This is your home and we will be here supporting you always.
The best aoe2 videos on YT 👍
dude this concept works for other things too, just helped me to look at a different way to manage my work, i was always too focus on the proper solution and did not think about a transition solution.
Superb video! A follow up with examples from real game's would be great!
Hey Hera, thanks for the video, this one is really useful.
What you said about controlling monks resonates with me, in fact I find it really difficult to use this unit at all apart from the passive healing at the back of my army.
If you can make a separate video with tips and tricks how to use and control monks that would be insanely helpful for people like me.
Thanks in advance 😉
thanks a looot for this video !!!
This is obviously a great video, and I really appreciate breaking down what I would consider the core gameplay of aoe2. Ever evolving rock-paper-scissors sums it up well, but walking through new players really makes this one of my top 5 fave videos, if not the top ever.
Love the Nili shoutout 😂😂 also this is literally the most helpful video ever, like this is actually really good aoe2 theory, feels like studying grammar in a language hahahaha, keep it coming
Nice video, I like it. Also, you can apply this same logic to every "Age of" game owo
This is really helpful, thanks. Or at least it will be if I can manage to think about this while completely panicking! :D
The amount and quality of your videos is crazy. And all this while becoming the world best player on the side.
Btw. Everytime you bring out a new tutorial I can literaly see the ladder (1100-1200 elo) adapting this.
This is a fantastic video! I learned a lot. These are the things my mom struggles with a lot in the game (she's around 800 elo), so I sent this video to her. She might not understand that "skirm" is short for skirmisher or that xbow means cross bow, so I'll have to explain that to her😂. Keep up the good work!
I left a like, commented and subscribed!
Ur a legend
That s a nice video ty!!
GOOD VID DUDE!
I don't comment a ton but had to say this was so crazy helpful. Thank you Hera!
thank you!!
great content thank you!!!
The huns emblem in there 1111 , hera trolling himself !!! Love it!
Literally one of the best AOE vids I've ever seen.
I feel like I just entered the Matrix. This video was absolutely fantastic. This kind of content is amazing
Thanks @Hera
One weird game I remember was an Aztecs mirror on Arena where I was behind on eco and techs, but won anyways because my opponent was actually too hasty to transition his army to counter what I was making. In early Imp I opened elite eagles while he opened Jags, and naturally I got pushed back hard, just barely holding onto my castles by juking his jaguars with multiple eagle groups so I could snipe his trebs. But I held, and started massing my own jaguars. I was behind on upgrades and am pretty sure I had fewer castles, so I would have lost a jaguar war had that continued for too long.
But no. My opponent saw my jag switch and halted his jaguar production in favor of going arbalests. I saw the arb switch and realized this was my way back. The one thing I'd done that the other guy hadn't was build several siege workshops on the side and massed about ten siege rams. So once he was out of infantry, I pushed forward with my jags while unleashing the rams from the side to smash the front of the enemy base and kill his castles. I lost my jaguars in the process, but I killed all the enemy castles, so I just added eagles again and raided his economy now that it was wide open. My opponent was actually starting to tech into champions at the very end, but realized he wouldn't have time and resigned.
I'm a 1200elo player and this is exactly the kind of videos that helps me improve and enjoy the game even more!
This video is a masterpiece.
Oh, Hera ❤
Excellent vid
This is something I’m losing games on constantly, specifically by sticking with my planned unit choice long after it’s clear it’s hard countered. Thanks for the excellent video!
Youre so good at explaining shit, man. Thanks
As a 12++ player i find this video very helpful, I once ask in the stream chat about this topic, and the other guys said "it depends", now i understand about what to consider before making a switch, thanks Hera great video as always, keep going with the good work, saludos amigo!
Thanks for this
Great video, I learned a lot and I'm going to try applying this in games. I wanted to share a piece of feedback, it might be helpful if you explain what a "unit transition" actually is / what it means right off the bat. It's not like people who are sufficiently acquainted with the game couldn't infer it by themselves, but as someone who had to get to around 1-2 minutes to affirm we're thinking about the same definition for "unit transition", it'd make your video more approachable
one of thos videos that doesn't give us fish but teaches us to fish. wonderful. Thank you for this gift
Great video
Great vid
SUper helpful vi.
This video is going to change my gameplay forever
Nice video
good tips!
The Hun Longsword got me laughing so hard 😂
great vid
Ty 🎉
Counters and transitions seem like such an obvious thing but when I’m in-game it’s like my brain just melts and I’m often making the wrong choice. Gonna watch this video a few more times because it’s so good and easy to understand
great video
I am 900 ELO and confirm that I throw around the "decision making" argument often.
Yes!
Proud overthinker here
Hera in video: you should made this army compositons. Hera in real game: makes 80 light cavalry.
U are the aoe2 monopol man. U are the person why this game is still popular. Probs!
Always FIRE!! I had NO IDEA how to do this... makes sense. also, why am I so dumb? 😂
Very nice tips, now I understand what I did wrong in some of my games (like countering elephants with just monks and not transitioning to pikes).
One thing I would like to know, is what if you go knights and enemy goes pikes, would be good transition tactic be to "dont engage army and just harass eco" to buy time for crossbows?
