- It seems like coyotes are making themselves at home across many parts of New York City, with sightings on the rise. So what is it about the Big Apple that is drawing coyotes out of the woods and into the concrete jungle? FOX 5 NY's Kendall Green has the story.

When I lived in Manhattan a few years ago I was walking through Central Park at night. Heard a Coyote howl somewhere not too far away. A lady walking her small dog in front of me. Stopped, looked around and then picked up her dog and jogged back toward Fifth Avenue out of the park. Stopped cutting through Central Park at night after that.
For over a year I have seen coyotes in highbridge park up in Washington heights. Some have pups already. I have a husky so they are no longer afraid of dogs and people.

So I would guess that means these coyotes have to be crossing bridges to get these parts of the city? Also on a sidenote, I know that first guy wasn't comparing a cute cuddly dog to a wild coyote smh.
They follow railroad tracks from Westchester to the Bronx to Manhattan.

Small dogs, cats, and small children are usually targeted by coyotes. To an adult they are harmless but should still be chased off.
I mean unless you’re leaving your child out in the open. Probably don’t do that. Also never buy small dogs. I’m more worried for small dogs than cats. Cats can handle themselves pretty well

For those who don't know how they actually act in the wild: they have no fear of humans and will stalk & hunt you if you are alone. That is the reality of rural New England when it comes to these creatures. You've been warned, they're not friendly like dogs but are hardwired to hunt in groups.

City people on asphalt. Not their fault but some real education needs to take place on this one. I live in a mountain forest and coyotes are great neighbors. But it's just like being around bears. You need to know how they roll. Zero to fear. But some things to respect and understand.
Maybe they will eat the rats. If they don’t get eaten first.

Should we be worried about this?
Not really. Coyotes rarely attack people, and they're too small to pose a major threat even on the rare occasions when they do. They also love to eat rodents like rats and mice, which is definitely a good thing!
