People searching for the best video on how to adjust a rear derailleur can stop here. I've tried them all but this one is the best. Every time i have to do this again on someone's bike, i'm watching this video as a little reminder.
Thank you for a simple, short, power punched video!!!! I finally adjusted my rear derailleur correctly and now my ‘93 Rocky Mountain shifts like a dream. Thank you!!!!
8 freaking years past and LITERALLY NONE is mentioning ANYTHING about the cable tension. I finally found this video that finally is mentioning it. THANKS !!!!
Dude u just saved me $$$ to go to bike shop for tuning ... guys who’s watching to tune ur gear just follow all his steps u should be able to get it .. easy peesy.. thank u n appreciate ur video
Finally I understand. Other videos didn't say close the adjusters first. That is what I needed this whole time because I couldn't get the right adjustment and now it all works perfectly. Thanks. It was the closing the adjusters that i didn't know.
You know I've watched my share of bike tutorials and have learned things about bicycles I would never have dreamed of learning. Your video on rear derailleur adjustments was SO easy to understand. So from one DIY person to a master bicycle mech, thanks for that
Hell yes! Just tuned my RD after it being a little off for some reason after swapping cassettes. So stoked! I've watched their videos before and could never get it but this was just perfect. Thanks a bunch!
Thanks a lot! Went to a old moto/bike shop with my new roadbike to ajust the rear deraleaur and i left with the old man from the sho sayin that the shifts where broken and this new stuff (shifts and brakes together) is shit ( because he couldnt find the tune for the deraleaur) .. went home, watched this video and BOOM!! Perfectly adjusted, for free and now i know how to do it any time i need it :)
Absolutely the same for a mountain bike, the shifter is doing the same thing.... It just looks different. Barrel adjuster being closed just means it's tightened all the way down, this is so you can open (loosen) it to remove slack from your cable after you clamp it. Glad you enjoyed!
thanks guys, i had only ever messed up my derailures in the past when tinkering with them, i knew it was all in me not knowing how to do it. so when i had to " try " and adjust my kona mtb i dident wish to chance it and was going to take it to a shop. decided to edjucate myself first and try it at home. its now working great!
Instantly cracked up at the mechanic guy trying to hold a grin while the tools change. Hilarious. Besides that, excellent video- explained some things, like barrel adjusters remove slack by loosening, give slack by tightening, that I couldn't find a single damn brake adjustment video that DID explain. Super basic thing to need to know. Glad you guys actually went though every single step.
More videos please! Maybe spoke truing? Orrrr explaining different shifter /gearing types ( I see lots of online questions on " what's better? ALIVIO or....." Or " how is the SRAM Line different from Shimano?" ) I think your videos are really clear and well made, good length and when I saw your vid on headsets I appreciated how you easily explained the covers/ bearing etc...many don't bother showing people what's under those rings and they will never really understand how to fix stuff if they don't know what's actually happening! I was sad when I subscribed and only saw a few videos. More please!
I've watched a quite a few rear derailleur videos, and this one is the best by far. Most do not have you release the cable, which seems to be were I was having some of the issues. Anyway, thanks for the great video!!!
Thanks for doing this video gents - you would not believe how long or the range of curses I have used trying to get my gears even nearly right before watching this 👍
Very clear. Very well presented. Thanks to this I finally made some knowledgeable, deliberate (and successful) adjustments rather than guessing trial and error at the various adjustments as I had done before. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for this Guys! Really helped me to tune the Rear Derailleur to be used with Tacx Neo Trainer. I'm still not done because the outer end cogs on both sides aren't usable, but happy because the ride is much more smoother now. :)
Sir mujhe English writing nahi ati hai etni but meri launge mai batata hu Ones again thank you very much Mai pas fantom 21gear cyacl hai lockdown mai cycling karata hu mare cyacle ka piche ke gear mai kafi din se problem tha our lockdown hone ke wajay se maine Ghar pay hi khola but o wapis thik kaise karate hai yahi maalum nahi mai kam se kam 3-4ghanta koshi ki maine RUclips mai bahut videos dhekhe par thik nahi ho raha tha Bahut serch karne pe apka video dekha our Maine vaise hi tray kiya mera problem 10min mai sovle ho gaya thank you sirji
LOL love the video straight to the point very simple thank you was watching another video and made it seem harder than what it is that video was 16 min
Hey thanks, nice and simple, no fuc#kin around. I have used your video for front and rear derailleur, also head adjustment. My bike is now tighter and rides better than me lady....😎
That's the B-Screw, it's adjusts the body angle of the derailleur. Shift to the innermost (biggest) cog in the rear and see where your top pulley wheel is on the derailleur in relation to the cog. It shouldn't be touching, but it shouldn't be too far away either.
Make sure the seatpost, seatpost clamp, or frame isn't cracked. Then try some carbon assembly compound on the seatpost and in the seat tube - without grease (clean the old grease out). It's gritty and helps things stay in place. You can get that stuff at any decent bike shop.
I'm definitely going to watch this and fix my shifter problem. Cant get the resistance I want. I find myself pedaling fast but the low is only getting 3 gears while the high is not helping move the chain.
This was great. I'm assuming it's identical for a mountain bike, correct? Could you go into more detail on the "barrel adjusters in the closed position"?
This video was really helpful. It's the first time I've ever properly adjusted my bike lol It didn't cover the other other limit screw. Another video said it was to keep the jockey wheel about one centimeter away from the sprockets while on gear 1 (highest gear?)
Tighten the b-screw. It's the little screw on the top/rear side of the derailleur. Tighten the screw to move the top derailleur pulley wheel away from the biggest cog of your cassette. Search b-screw or b-tension and you'll find pics...
Excellent video guys. My front shifter failed and was replaced successfully. Now the rear shifter has also failed. My new shifters came as a pair. The new rear shifter has one more click than my gear cassette. Will it work please?
i like your video on adjusting gears, I come from riding single speed park bikes and have lately been moving back into my old ways with DH/freeride so learning how to keep my gears happy has been a new endeavor. One thing i can never find info on is what does the third limit screw (pivots the derailleur on the hanger) adjust? and how do you adjust it properly?
Good video. I have two rear wheels, one with a 11-25, and one with a 11-28. I think I have a problem getting into the lowest gear on one of these. I suspect it's an issue with spacers on the cassette. Should I be able to switch these wheels around without any issues with the gearing?
Maybe a bent derailleur hanger? If not, try playing with the barrel adjuster on the shifter while riding in a clicking gear. See if you can get it to go away.
You should be able to switch wheels with no problems. Make sure the cassettes have the same amount of gears, (you'd be surprised by how many people make that mistake), and make sure your derailleur hanger isn't bent. After that, make sure your chain is long enough to handle the 28. Maybe try moving your low limit out a little too. Good luck!

You took the words right out of my mouth bro. Best rear derailleur video. Full stop.
Good knowledge..thumbs up!! 😊
Absolutely !! 👍

Are you kidding? There was more ambiguity than I could shake a stick at.
Thank you for a simple, short, power punched video!!!! I finally adjusted my rear derailleur correctly and now my ‘93 Rocky Mountain shifts like a dream. Thank you!!!!
I watch this video every time I adjust a rear derailleur. You have found the right video if you are reading this comment.

Dude u just saved me $$$ to go to bike shop for tuning ... guys who’s watching to tune ur gear just follow all his steps u should be able to get it .. easy peesy.. thank u n appreciate ur video
This is the person you need to watch to do adjustments. NOT THE OTHER VIDS ON UTUBE. Short and to the point. Thank you so very much. Brilliant
This was so much more simplistic than the other videos I watched. I got my gears adjusted better than the bike shop did.
Finally I understand. Other videos didn't say close the adjusters first. That is what I needed this whole time because I couldn't get the right adjustment and now it all works perfectly. Thanks. It was the closing the adjusters that i didn't know.
Still helping people around the world in 2020. Thanks for such effort.

excelent video guys. no stupid music to distract you. no personal opinions. just straight and to the point
I copied what he said....I now have fully functioning derailleurs, front and back!
Thanks sweetsbench, you lovable rogues!
Hell yes! Just tuned my RD after it being a little off for some reason after swapping cassettes. So stoked! I've watched their videos before and could never get it but this was just perfect. Thanks a bunch!
Well done, right to the point! Why do others have 20 min video's on this?
I tried the ParkTool video but your technique is infinitely better! Life saving video here 🤣
Watched a bunch of videos on this and you explain it the best. Thanks. My shifters are shifting.
Beautifully and simply explained!
I wish all videos were made this well and succinct.
Thank you...
Thanks for the video, straightforward directions and good camera angles
That was the best tutorial I've seen. I'm going to try adjusting my derailleur now. Thanks.
Amazing tutorial......my local mechanic messed it up and you guys helped me to tune my first mtb thanks a lot..cheerio
MJ Sweet, yours instructions are the best on youtube and I have went trough several of them. Makes adjustment so simple.

oooh, the relief expression at the end... this dude knows exactly how it feels to ride a clean and well tuned bike.
THIS VIDEO SAVED SOOOOO MUCH TIME AND I DIDNT HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A BIKE SHOP THANK YOU FOR THIS AWESOME VIDEO!
This video was on-point! I watched it 4 times and tuned my sons bike no problem.
Amazing video….the only one Really explaining rear derailleur adjustment…MORE VIDEOS on other topics please….
The turning was the part that took me a few minutes. Thanks for the tips. It worked.
wow. the best explanation yet. perfect pop graphics. thank you for taking the time.
Looks like I need all that. And a new bike.
Didn't know a chain could move so smoothly.
Great,easy to understand video.Thanks Y'all.
Woah, removing the cable to adjust the H limit solved the problem I've been having for some time now. I thought my shifter was bad, nope! Thank you!
Wow!...Ive never seen it explained so easily. Do you have a video on the front derailleur?
This is the best and clearest explanation on youtube! Nice one!
I so lucky that I found this video
Thank you for making this!💖
It helps me a lot💖! I'm a beginner but I can now tune my own bike!!!
Thank you men!❤️
Nice vid i understand this better than parktool wich is 16 minutes long
More videos please!

WOW!!! thank you, you have no idea how many times I tried to fix this before and I always failed. This time I fixed it on the first try. Thanks!!
Hey, you guys have a real talent for simplifying bike repairs. You should release some more videos!
This is the best tutorial. Don't bother with others
This is going to come in handy.....it must be 15ish years ago since I messed about setting up gears!
easily the best video on this subject I've seen. Cheers !
Best video on youtube for this, thanyou very much. God bless you all.
I've watched a quite a few rear derailleur videos, and this one is the best by far. Most do not have you release the cable, which seems to be were I was having some of the issues. Anyway, thanks for the great video!!!
this is the shortest the easiest the best.. nice work guys
Short and straight forward guide.thanks dude!
Seriously, this is the best and clear explanation I've seen yet. I'm totally sub'd. Keep these vids coming.
Thank you, worked for the last few rides and hasn't moved!
Thanks for doing this video gents - you would not believe how long or the range of curses I have used trying to get my gears even nearly right before watching this 👍
What everyone else said! Such a clear explanation & now what I thought was a bust derailleur is now running as sweet as a nut
Most helpful video on bike maintenance ever. Thanks
Very clear. Very well presented. Thanks to this I finally made some knowledgeable, deliberate (and successful) adjustments rather than guessing trial and error at the various adjustments as I had done before. Thanks!

Great informational. Rear Derailleur shifts like butter now. Thanks!!

Thanks to your video i finally assemble my new cycle
Incrediblely helpful and to the point. Super appreciate this!
Thanks! I had to replace the grip-shift, and the new shifter wasn't allowing engagement of all the gears. Now I'm armed with the fix of the fix.
Thank you. Sweet and simple instructions. Thumbs up!
Amazing. In 3 minutes 52 sec you cover perfectly - and include intro and outro. Why does it take others 13 minutes?? Bravo!
Excellent explanation mate. Straight to the point. Just Subbed👍🏾
Quick and precise vid,i strongly recommend for rocky beginners
Funny, that's sounds just like the first time I worked on my own bike... Good luck getting it sorted out.
so clear explanation ! Great lecture !
Simple, usefull and no bullshitting, good job, dude!
Hey thanks, nice and simple, no fuc#kin around. I have used your video for front and rear derailleur, also head adjustment. My bike is now tighter and rides better than me lady....😎
Thank you. Short, sweet and understandable.
great video on rear derailleur adjustment: clear & concise.
This is the only video I understood for rear dearierua1lair.
Looks sooo simple when you do it.. Very good video by the way.. My new 8000 coming on Monday .. I hope I can do it..
That's the B-Screw, it's adjusts the body angle of the derailleur. Shift to the innermost (biggest) cog in the rear and see where your top pulley wheel is on the derailleur in relation to the cog. It shouldn't be touching, but it shouldn't be too far away either.
Short video that very fast to understand adjust concept. I like it.
Thanks man I've been stuck on this one for a bit. Big help.
This was great. I'm assuming it's identical for a mountain bike, correct? Could you go into more detail on the "barrel adjusters in the closed position"?
Oooohhhh. Loosening the cable. Worked perfectly. Thanks!
This is how a "how to" video should be made. I am older and don't have time for a lot of fluff. Just hit subscribe and be done!!
This video was really helpful. It's the first time I've ever properly adjusted my bike lol
It didn't cover the other other limit screw. Another video said it was to keep the jockey wheel about one centimeter away from the sprockets while on gear 1 (highest gear?)
Question: if the bike has more than one gear up front, what should I have it to. My bike has 3 gears up front.
Thanks guys that was quite easy after the tutorial. With some humour thrown in as well!
Excellent video. Almost perfect explanation. Thank you.
Thorough video, was able to address the issue on my wife's Townie :)
Excellent, simplified explanation. Chhheeeerrrsssss!!! 🍻

Thanks this Video Helped my Fix my bike the shifting was one off and now its fixed :)
the best demostration, yet!!! thanks!
quick and to the point, great video!
Very helpful - thanks. The only thing else I needed to know was to squrt WD40 into my Shimano shifters which were missing changes sometimes.
Good video. I have two rear wheels, one with a 11-25, and one with a 11-28. I think I have a problem getting into the lowest gear on one of these. I suspect it's an issue with spacers on the cassette. Should I be able to switch these wheels around without any issues with the gearing?
Excellent demonstration will check mine derailleur
that master mechanic is the funniest... hes just got the face where you just wanna laugh
lol
great video. I finally tuned my old shimano TX
Maybe a bent derailleur hanger? If not, try playing with the barrel adjuster on the shifter while riding in a clicking gear. See if you can get it to go away.
Great content! Def coming back for more tips on bike repair!
Good luck!
