I was able to fix a 2003 camry. You do not need to remove the buttons or panel to get to the square bolt. You can see from the side just under the bottom edge of the panel, raising the seat up helps. I used a 2"-3" bit holder extension and an S2 square bit and rotated it clock-wise with a crescent wrench about 10 rotations until the drive screw engaged. Thanks for video!
Effing perfect!! Girlfriend moved the seat all the way forward to clean, and this is exactly what happened. Did NOT have to take the rear screw out to remove the side panel and access that manual square bolt; just removed the three on the side and the switch clips and I was good to go, and careful not to pull too hard. Thank you so much! One of the most helpful videos I have seen. !!
Wow!!! I did what you said. It worked on my girlfriends car. She looked like a clown too. She is happy now and that is all that matters. I could not take out the back screw. But taking off the 3 along the switches gave me enough room to get to that screw bolt you showed on your vid. I was impressed with myself. Thanks saved me at least $150.00 taking to a mechanic.
Thanks for the video. It was completely accurate for my 2003 Camry. Took me 45 min. The hardest part was getting the screw in the back of the seat. To set it back on the screw I used a power drill with the square bit. Torque cranked all the way up. Again, thanks. You saved my knees.
OMG thank you! After the dealership told my son they couldn't get my seat to move back (my son was cleaning my car and moved the seat all the way forward and it would not move back), and that they didn't make parts for my 2003 Toyota Camry anymore (bullsh*t), and they let my 6' 1" son squeeze back into the car he could barely drive with the seat like that - I was seeing red. It took us about 10 minutes after watching your video, to get the seat to re-engage and move back into a reasonable position for driving. I can't thank you enough!
I'm a victim of a drunk driver so my left leg will not Bend so I have to let my seat all the way back to get out of my car this morning I got in it and it wouldn't go up! It ruined my morning but I did some research and saw your video thank you!!! thank you!!🙌🏾❤️💪🏾
Thank you so much! Had the same issue today, same make and model. Couldn’t get the back screw out so I took off the two switch covers and pulled out the front. Worked perfect!
Awesome! Thanks bro. This happened to my 02 Camry so I replaced the entire lower seat cradle then it happened to my 03 and I did it again. Now it happened again on my 03. This time I only put the seat forward half way. I don’t want to do it a third time and this should fix it. Thanks! Subscribed!
Great video fixed the same issue I was having. Just I like others O didn’t do that back of seat screw, it made it a little more difficult to maneuver but saved a bunch of frustration.
Omg I was panicked this morning nit being able to drive my 02 camery. Thinking the motor went bad.. watched this video and was on the road in minutes,, thank you sooooooo much. Xoxo 😘
Worked for me.. Eventually. After using a ratchet with an S2 square bit on the left side, the left side would move, but the right side wouldn't budge. So the seat was "turning". This is because the right side was *also* disengaged. Ended up hammering downwards on the track on the right side, while momentarily tapping the backwards button. Took a couple tries. Had to keep moving the seat forward in-between tries so that both sides were as aligned as much as they possibly could be. Finally the right side was engaged again after a couple minutes. For anybody else who runs into this issue - *Before* you attempt any of this, try sitting down in your seat. Dig your heels into the floor and apply as much backwards force as you can with your upper body into the backrest of the seat, while tapping the backwards button. This *should* essentially be the same as hammering the tracks and doesn't require all of this extra effort. I was able to test this after purposely disengaging both sides and was able to re-engage them
Thank you for the information I was able to unstuck my seat one thing failed to mention you can lift the seat up electronically before doing this and it's easier to get to that bottom screw
Lmao my name Alex too, but hell yeah bro this video and 2 other videos I found all gave this same advice and this is definitely the way to do it. I had went to clean my car at the car wash and vacuum it and pushed the seat all the way up, that's a no go. Will never do that again. I'd recommend just not pushing the seat all the way up to avoid this. But yeah just follow these steps if you have the same issue. For me it sounded like it was attempting to move back whenever I'd press the button and it just wouldn't so I figured that it wasn't broken and there was some way to fix it. For the part where you used a square bit I didn't have one I just used this random tool kinda like a sharp flat head screwdriver, it was just the right size to fit in the whole at 1:50, and I turned this tool like once and it instantly fixed it, no struggle at all for me.
Or you can just tap at the front of the black rail /seat track while pushing button back..worked for me but im thankful for your method it gave me a start
I had this happen a few weeks ago and I'm 5'7" and it's been so uncomfortable and looks ridiculous I'm sure!! I'm going to go try to fix mine now that ive watched your video..fingers crossed it works 🤞
Had to move drivers seat to make room for a car seat.... now I'm driving knees up to the dashboard lol 😆 , hopefully I can fix it like u showed . Thx !
Definitely don't need to remove that rear screw. Just take the three small ones out from the side and is more than enough room to pull that trim away. I just put the appropriate bit in my drill / driver and gave it a quick spin and it worked. Whole job was done in under 5 minutes
I think there's a "Rebuild kit" consisting of a couple brass/alloy gears for when the mechanism gets worn. Toyota "used-to" sell them. People didn't like the 'knock-knock-knock-knock' sound they make when they're 'freed up' the way you did. I had forgotten about this issue, it had been so long since I'd dealt with it.
I just bought a 2003 camry and when I try to adjust the seat forward, only thr right side of the seat will move. The left side will stay stationary. So the seat will rotate lol. I'll try this free fix and hopefully it works!
I gave my switch a nice few smacks without removing anything and worked like a charm! Everything else worked too except backward so I was stuck for a day.
My seat was all the way up to the front and stuck. I tried to rotate that square hole to the right, but nothing happened. It just kept on turning to the right. What did I do wrong?
If you’re using a ratchet make sure you’re ratchet is turning in the correct direction. Like the ratchet should have resistance when it is turning. If not, then flip the switch on the ratchet and try a again. I had this problem when I started using hand tools. Hopefully this helps.
@@The_Engineering_Boost I also used a screwdriver and it kept on turning. I tried to turn it to the opposite direction (left) too and the same result. Do I need to turn the square hole on the other side of the chair (the side that is close to the passenger chair)? Is it possible that the linear actuator that got derailed from its track is on the other side? Does that mean I have to disassemble the chair and take the chair out in order to do that?
Hmmm… when you turn it right, does the seat move back? You might have to do a lot of turns before it starts moving. If so maybe it is engaged, but the motor is bad. Yes, you can try what you said, but I don’t think there is another rod on the other side because the motor is on the drivers left side. There will be a rail but not like the one on the left. But yes, that requires removing the entire seat from the car.
@@The_Engineering_Boost I will give it a try again and let you know. If the motor is bad, the other functions would be bad too, right? (Functions like moving the whole seat up and down, or reclining / standing upright the back of the seat) Those functions on mine are still moving good. So does that mean that the motor is still good?
@@aongang1136 not necessarily. There are multiple motors for moving the seat in different directions. Check out this video around the 2 minute mark to see what might be going on. ruclips.net/video/iej_yyGyN4c/видео.html
I hate when mechanics fiddle with this when they test drive my car, and I dread getting in and the seat will no longer move back. I have mine all the way back and low. 2002 V6 259,000 miles and still going.
Okay, here's the problem, the drivers seat was pushed up to clean under, there was a toy that jammed it. The toy was removed. The 'sound' still sounded, as the control was pressed to move the seat back. The seat wouldn't move. So, does anyone think it is 1. a rod underneath that may have been bent? 2. something else? or 3. the electric system. Yeah, I already said, the sound sounds for connection to move...just no movement. And everything else works. Auto place wants 800.00, they say to readjust the electric system!! ....I'll just drive with my knees against the dashboard! --- Sure would appreciate any advice. It's a Dodge Charger 2008.
DO NOT DO THIS!!! Thats not how this works. That square hole is the end of a metal gear that turns a plastic gear at the end of that long screw. Forcing it can shred that plastic gear. The actual problem is either that the plastic gear has already failed, or more likely that the connection between the long screw and the bottom track has seized up. In the latter case, Forcing it MIGHT unseize it but could also make the repair much more difficult for you. What you need to do is unbolt the seat and lean it back. you dont need to take it out. There are 2 giant bolts at the bottom of the track. hard to miss. take those out and the bottom track will slide right off. make sure the block thats threaded onto the long screw turns freely. If it wasnt seized then you probably need a new plastic gear. Look up ‘power seat rebuild kit’ for your car and you will find parts and guides for all this
Fuck not sure if this will help mine, I remember it was wanting to curve to the right at an angle any time mine would be engaged forward. Might need to replace a motor

The srs light can be a faulty air bag, air bag sensor, or this part that is under the center console, as in under the knobs that control the hot and cold in your car. You have to get to the area under the right side of the carpeting of the driver's side. The control module is what most likely needs to be replaced. Car inspector was trying to wring me with, it will cost me $400 for a whole new dash, when all I needed were these two bulbs for the dash. Me and my old man came to the conclusion to just replace the constrol module with a used part(It was like 10 bucks on Ebay), and the SRS light never came back on after that.
It's an S2 square bit 🫱🏻🫲🏾. Oh and you don't need to take the rear left screw out. Just pop the buttons off and the front portion. If you have a small drill with an extension. You'll be just fine. Takes literally 5mins total

YES!! Flat headed screw driver turned clockwisely did the job perfectly after several attempts with different tools. It's hard though!

I’m 5’ and I am uncomfortable 😂 my daughter pushed it all the forward playing with the seat. And I have no idea what square bit to buy
Thank you so much for posting video. I did just as you said and worked. I have the same car but mine is a yr older.

What took are you using to spin the nut to get it to attach

What is the rod spins but doesn't move on driver side, moves slightly on passenger side of seat
Hey, what size was the screwdriver head ?
my passenger side seat only the right side moves and the left doesnt do you think this would be the same thing?
how about the recline button?.. mine is an 08 camry and the seat stays in a recline position.
