There’s actually a reason for the option to turn off the backlight. The original DS (as well as the DS Lite, I believe) used transflective displays, meaning it can either be transmissive (backlight on) or reflective (backlight off). This is also the reason why the DS screen looks so washed out, as transflective displays are not as vibrant as regular displays. Nintendo did this so the DS screen would be easy to see in any kind of lighting.
I believe the DS lite doesn't have it, it has different levels of lighting instead
Another thing on the DS Lite:
The hinges are way too easy to break. I went through 3 DS Lites in my childhood and all of them are broken and in the trash.

I had a red one, a light blue one and a black one from my cousin. All of the hinges broke.

Vester&Friends I did something similar to my DS Lite, and it made the hinge very loose and flimsy.

I usually have mine open 3/4 of the way. That way it’s just a bit curved but not like a 2DS

The touchscreen was horrible. Literally, everything worked except for your finger, so you had to use your fingernail to do it and hope your mom didn't cut your nails an hour ago

Nintendo probably didn't put gameboy or gameboy color support because:
1. There were no more games being in the making.
2. It would be outdated or the GBA was already compatible.

Because the GBA needed a build-in adaptor to do that. This was quite large and would have made the DS even bigger than it already was.

I've always had this issue where my DS lite had a red tint to it's screen which is a bit annoying
everyone chill until someone asks what I'm playing and I respond with "New Nintendo 3DS XL" lol
