So whether devotees choose to worship him with full faith in the form of a stone or an idol or sun or tree or plant or to any object to which 'Prana Prathishtapane' is done, he is always there. And about formless worship or an idol worship, The Supreme Lord Krishna, says in the 12th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita that both are equally good and will lead to the same goal of liberation but of the two, worship of God with form is better for the human being - as we are incapable of conceiving of anything which is nameless and formless. Actually, the supreme vision is that which sees the same God in both the manifest and in the unmanifest. But such a vision is very rare, so to make it easier for the common man to approach the divinity, god with form is better. Yes, God is one. But he has different forms is what Hinduism says.

It's true, that in Bhagavad Gita 7.20 Lord Krsna stated that "Those whose wisdom has been rent away by this or that desire, go to other gods", but by stating this he wished to convey something else, by saying the word 'gods' he was referring to the demigods of heaven, who can't grant moksa (emancipation), they can only fulfill some worldly desires. So, this verse (Gita 7.20) actually calling those individuals fool, who worship the demigods for ephemeral pleasure and don't worship Krsna, who can grant permanent bliss. So whether devotees choose to worship him with full faith in the form of a stone or an idol or sun or tree or plant or to any object to which 'Prana Prathishtapane' is done, he is always there.
And about formless worship or an idol worship, The Supreme Lord Krishna, says in the 12th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita that both are equally good and will lead to the same goal of liberation but of the two, worship of God with form is better for the human being - as we are incapable of conceiving of anything which is nameless and formless. Actually, the supreme vision is that which sees the same God in both the manifest and in the unmanifest. But such a vision is very rare, so to make it easier for the common man to approach the divinity, god with form is better.

All the atharvashirsha considers its respective deity to be supreme. Hence, Hinduism support polytheism.
