This was one of the best scenes in the movie and it had a quote that will honestly stick with me for a long time. “I was there to push people beyond what's expected of them. I believe that's an absolute necessity. There are no two words in the English language more harmful than good job.”
@@animeloverhaven what he is essentially saying is that you can only make good jazz players if you treat them like shit i think, and that is not a good quote to live by. It has no evidence for working, and you cant be sure it works i think.
@@emil25558 i think his point was that if your too easy on people and tell them things like good job even when they’re not doing the best they can they might inteperet that as them doing really well even if they might not be doing really well.I think his point ultimately was that to make people the best they can be sometimes you should be hard on them.
Adoro está preciosa pieza de Justin Hurwitz, qué genialidad! Muchas gracias por esta edición. Y amo también la película Whiplash y todo su sound track!
Although this song is quite enjoyable and relaxing, this song is laughable (within the context of the movie). Fletcher is critiquing the Studio Band for not meeting his absolute perfection, on difficult pieces like Whiplash and Caravan, but then turns around and plays this "starbucks jazz" and still tries to act like he's some sort of music guru. I loved the film, and I love this song, but this scene pissed me off more than I thought.
I think it was deliberate on their part. They wanted to show that Fletcher knew he himself was never capable of becoming a Charlie Parker. This scene gave me mixed feelings - it capture Fletcher's musical frustration as a person of mediocre talent unhappy with his lot in life still finding some serenity in music. It's a nice moment in the end because we get to see Fletcher get back in touch with what drew him into his career in the first place - a love of music.
This observation is actually in parallel to Green Book. There was a scene when Tony Lip and Dr. Donald Shirley were having a conversation while on the road and Shirley mentioned he did not want to incorporate blues and jazz into his repertoire but hello hello, there was a scene in the later part of the show where he went on and played hardcore blues and jazz in a racially segregated bar in Birmingham, Alabama. Given the circumstances, he gave in and got carried away by his emotions.
