- Опубликовано: 20 июл 2021
- No Alex this week which means Hask and Tinds are steering the good ship GBR. They’re ably assisted by Simon Shaw to look back on his glittering career with club, country and The Lions. He reflects on the magnitude of the '97, '05 and '09 tours, the glory years at Wasps alongside a young and hungry Hask and playing alongside the world’s greatest players at Toulon.

What a legend. One of my all time hero’s of English and Lions rugby but all round top bloke. Well played Shawesy
This is the best episode I have ever seen! And I’ve seen them all. What a legend Simon Shaw was and is!!!!
My very favourite player, he has so many attributes that make him stand out. Firstly, he is an enormous man, one of the largest to ever play for England. In his early days he approached 22 stone, standing 6feet 9inches and was viewed as too heavy to lift in the line out. However, he later slimmed down to 19.5 to 20 stone without losing the immense power that was his trademark. I have seen many games for England where he has come on and the momentum has shifted their way due to his influence in scrums, and ability to steal ball and break through tackles.
All of the above with the handling of a back and fantastic endurance. I was at the Heineken final between Wasps and Leicester and when Simon came off, I was right at pitch side. I stood behind him and was shocked how large, and wide he was.
It is a shame he was often overlooked as being to similar to Johnson, although I think he was quite different, also seems a shame that perhaps one of his best moments was in the losing effort against SA for the Lions, when he was awarded man of the match. In the interview afterwards, you could see how much it meant to him!
When you see him in this interview you can clearly see another very endearing quality, namely he is not in the slightest bit driven by his ego, he just loved the game and loved winning.
Great to see he is enjoying retirement
Brilliant from Shawsy. His performance with Joe Worsley in the 2007 RWC semi final against Australia was one of his best. They suffocated the Aussies with tackle and maul. Great guy!
Quarter final btw, the semi final was against France.
One of the best episodes, Simon Shaw is a quality guy and club rugby best servant for Wasps. Superb advert for rugby. Top fella,
Whay a giant in every way.And with a face like a lion too!!
What a humble modest man. Great podcast really enjoyed listening to his career.
What a player he was. That 2nd test in 2009, Shaw literally obliterated a Bok ruck single-handed on one occasion. Astonishing.
Simon Shaw comes across as a really good bloke ..... an affable soul! Humble and modest about an amazing career. Much rather play with him, than against him!
Brilliant 👍👍
Bloody brilliant! What a story, what a humble man. Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant show! I watched most of simon's career, for my money the best of his generation.
Miles better player than Kay...and he wouldn't of dropped a pass for a simple run in either!
What a gent. A man moved to France for such positive reasons. Missed in Surrey by his School friends!
Up there as one of the best episodes what a great man, Simon Shaw rugby legend a pleasure to watch as a player and a great man to listen to.
Love Shawsie, great player and was unreal for England during the 07 world cup and the Lions second test in 09.
Did not disappoint. Brilliant. What a legend. Made my day. Thanks gents.
With Hask at the helm the boys are able to respond more quickly without having to wait on a moderator (Payno). Payno likes to lubricate conversations, although it's often not necessary. Hask dives straight in without a Durex in sight! I love it!
I played for Bristol as a junior and was ball boy for home matches. Shawsie tapped me on the back of the head in the tunnel pre match and nearly knocked me out! What a bloke and what a beast of a player!!! Quality guest lads
Simon Shaw is a total legend, he's done it all
Totally agree, very under rated
Brilliant episode, great man and player 👏👏👏
I think at the moment we are witnessing Alex Payne’s glory years.
Why?
#Payno
A humble legend. Great pod again. Can't wait for the next
Only 3 people in rugby have scared me. Danny Grewcock, Jonah Lomu and Simon Shaw. Cant wait for this. Reaches for beer and popcorn.
I agree with your list, all very scary!
Botha?
About half the way through, Hask's done a great job of mixing Alex's job of keeping things mildly on track into his usual role!

Had the pleasure of playing with and against Simon at Cranleigh U19's. He was 6'8" back then when he was 17!
And he was a decent fella to boot.
Me too !
I'm so glad you rebranded your show. This is much better than The House of Rugby
The flow of conversation and overall Pod was better this week.It is more similar to the Rugby Pod format which works well. I thought Hask anchored it well.
Cool story bro👍.. especially the one about the hen🤣
French speaking Ha Ha. I am living in Brazil and its the same here - when you manage some half decent Portuguese they reply at great speed with a ton of slang and colloquialisms which is completely impenetrable to anyone but a native from the same region....except if they detect the hint of an English accent (even through the compulsory mask) then they just freeze when they realise you are a "gringo".
Another podcast another even better show.just keep them coming.but why only 30k subs.come on guys pass it on.
Impressed with Hask at the helm ....
I had the privilege of spending a few hours in Shawsey's company a few years ago in Nairobi. An absolute gent, very funny, great stories and his honesty in answering every question he was asked was superb, as great off the pitch as he was on it. Great show, big ups to Hask for a job well done.
shawsie!!!
very good episode
Fascinating ! Great job Hask.
Excellent episode
wtf Hask since when did you become a legit journalist. Those questions and your manner were perfect and professional!
Never knew Simon Shaw was such a funny guy. Where did he grow up as an expat?
Hi I’m Beau Shaw, he grew up in Kenya 👍
I think Martin Bayfield may have taken issue with that introduction.
Great episode
Loved this! Please mute Darth Vader’s breathing going forwards!
🤣🤣 glad it’s not just me that noticed it
Remember watching him play and being totally and utterly confused how he wasn't in the 2003 team. Mind boggling.
Utterly ridiculous player
Quality pod
Wasps legend
Skate??
How many bloody adverts do you want?
Fantastic show, think it went better without Alex, sadly. A more natural interview.
