FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
Proud to be a Patreon supporter . I'm just wondering when we will receive the flight patch ? I can't wait to put it on my kneeboard and proudly represent the Flightchops community !
Thanks for the support! So sorry about the delay - it has been a very crazy period this spring / summer. When did you sign up? I am behind on the patch mail going back to April, but am getting the next batch sent out during / after Osh.
I signed up in May i think ! Happy to know that i wasn't forgotten ! Keep up the awesome videos !
I signed up in September of '16 at the $5/video level and never received one.
+Scott Smith - please check your email Scott. I have just reached out to confirm your mailing address and will send an other patch.
That sounds so awesome to have such a massive flight like that coming in. Neat to see all the preparation that goes into that. Really wish I could make it to Oshkosh this year. Next year I'll be there for sure!
UNU was my home for a few years. Oshkosh Airventure is the time of the year. It was a sight to see watching 50+ Cessnas departing at one time. God that brings me back seeing the WisAv facilities. Thank you.
This is awesome! As a CFI-I I can also vouch for flying as many types as possible improving your skills, once you have them that is. It forces you to learn to let the airplane speak. I've jumped into everything from a tri-pacer to a baron and been comfortable within minutes.
Unfortunately I haven't been to the "candy store" in almost a decade. Keep up the good work!
Gets me pumped to learn to fly.
The cinematography is superb. Kudos to your buddy for his time awake. The video conveys/reflects that aviation is somewhat a borderless international family. I made the journey to Oshkosh 17 times and the mere sight of the place triggers adrenaline no matter who you are. I recall landing 3 wide on 36 using the runway & taxiways for landing at rush hour arrival, what a feeling! The Cardinal is a great airplane. I hope Cessna brings it back someday with a diesel engine burning jet fuel.
+Don Johnston - I will pass this comment along to Brock.
12:22 I love the pre-planned departure gaps between speed groups. Awesome professional planning.
Patrick Powell- That level of planning is being done everyday by pilots in the Armed Forces. I just put what I learned in the military to practical use for the mass arrival. Kudos go to the instructors that trained us!
Way cool! As Oshkosh grows more of this needs to happen. It's safer.
I remember hearing about the Cessna adventure last year. I flew in with the Mooney Caravan mass arrival and will be doing so again in a week and a half. We ended up delaying our departure by several hours for weather, but from there everything worked just right. Fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly again this year.
Its going to be a long wait for part two!
+Pilotwisco - if 8 days is a long wait, then you are correct.
Ahhh, i was looking for part two!!! I'm not a pilot but always wanted to learn. i watch many videos and this series seems really cool!
The coordination and planing of this had to be just as fun as putting it in action!!!
KPTK is 20 mins from my house, your route had you going basically right over me. Cool.
I am always stunned by how many Aircraft and in particular all the Cessna's that seem to keep multiplying each year at AirVenture. I'd have to say my favorite of all of them would have to be the "Skymaster" Something about that twin boom tail and the two engines one in the nose and one pushing from behind. But i also have to admit seeing all the Cessna's is pretty epic in it's own wright. Please keep adding more video's and part 2 asap! :) :)
I haven't watched your videos in a while and I now realize how great your videos are
Steve, glad to see you in a Cardinal.. I did my private in a Cardinal and I am still flying that same airplane to this day. I love it!
I do all my flight training from Oshkosh. It's so cool to see familiar airspace on your channel.
Very cool to see how a mass arrival works!
Volunteering in Hartford WI for the Piper Cub 80th Anniversary. The mass arrival of 80-100 Piper Cubs is early Sunday morning July 29th. Should be a great time!
This is so awesome! Flight Chops you killed it on this video! I cant wait for part 2!
+Byron Archer - thanks! Part two will be published next Friday - right before Osh '17 :)
OMG the tension! Like a serial cliff hanger - really I meant that. This is a fun episode.
+TomorrowSystems glad you enjoyed it!
My name is Mike Costello just so you know. Somehow I have evolved into using my business account for all things RUclips. Based in Brisbane Australia. Would be good to see you down this way one day. One video I would like to see from you is just you flying. Do a Steveo camera set up so you don't have to worry about camera angels all the time. That will give you a chance to just talk about flying in general. And give you some head space to just live in the moment but take us for the ride. Steveo has the 'chill factor' down pat. Sometimes I think you need some of that. Keep it up.
Great video! Can't wait to see part 2.
Oshkosh is in my bucket list!!!
Awesome! Been waiting and hoping for a while now for this! Thanks!
Can't wait for part 2
So cool! Thanks Steve for such amazing content!
I don't know if I can last until part 2 comes out. Great episode Flightchops!!
Thanks! Part 2 coming soon
Wow that was an amazing episode! I cannot wait at all for the next!!! Thanks for putting all this work into creating these videos Steve :D
+Call 911 For Cookies - Happy to share :)

I wish that I still loved aviation.
KPTK is my home base! I'm a student at DCT!
Love this. Can't wait for part 2!
Your videos are so frickin' awesome! I've been a subscriber since the early days of the channel, and your videos never cease to amaze me. This channel will probably be the very last channel that I'd unsubscribe from. Keep on going! You've got a growing audience!
+Michael Van Heemst - thanks for the continued engagement over all these years :)
Great Video! I'll be flying with Bonanzas to Oshkosh this year. My first time doing it. Can't wait!
B2OSH is a fantastic group! You will have a great time.

Wow, the quality of this was very good :)
Wow dude that's a lot of plaines good day to have T cast lol I've never been to the big airshow in Oshkosh what's it like I've here'd things like it's an overwhelming experience for a first timer.
Something tells me there will be many more cessna's in that formation next year...I may even be one of them
Next year is just a few days away!
Evan Wiedling you referring to cape air selling their whole Cessna fleet?
Can't wait!
CZBA is a great place to start any adventure ;) thought you might have rented GPJK for the trip!
+Flex Plexico :)
Looks like you crossed the border right by KPHN, I did my first solo cross country there!
I flew in on vecor 8 next to the main hangar.
I'm glad you're going hope to meet you there
Great Video - Keep them coming!
Wow... the guy @ 6:04 sounds just like Steve Martin. I was expecting him to bust out a banjo or a cork on a fork.
Wow!
That guy in the Tilley hat sure must have his shit together..... my hat (not a Tilley) is off to all the planners of that event. It's because of them these neat things can happen.
I'm probably taking my Taylorcraft L-2A to Oshkosh but man it's a long flight from Texas, however she did it in a Super Cub so I don't have an excuse.
Is the Taylor craft a kind or a Cub ?
Awesome! Just signed up as a Patreon supporter and I just subscribed, keep the videos coming!
+Joey S - Right on! Welcome and thanks! Watch for a personal email soon - I will be getting caught up this week.
flightchops 3:32 you just missed meigsfield would be interesting to see 2017 footage of the once great airfield
You'd hardly recognize it. I flew over last year on the way to OSH and if i didn't know what I was looking at it would have just looked like another park.
stnkbg1 Everybody knows that airfield because or was ms flightsimulator default 😀
"Anywhere in the world, plus or minus thirty seconds." Wow!
Pumped for part 2. Very interesting
14:56 second plane from the right. The cessna from another video you made going to osh?
I'm working on my private pilots license and I really want to go to Oshcosh Airventure. It's sooo much bigger than Sun 'N Fun.
YEA , KPTK is the airport I fly out of and 757mk is the plane I fly!!
Awesome
Awesome
This would be amazing to be a part of!
Iǘe watched the occasional FC video, but had to subscribe this time so I don´t miss part 2.
Check out the back catalog meantime! There are over 100 episodes now! But yeah, Part 2 of this series is coming in a few days
Guy at 3:00 is like Jeff Goldbloom
Great video mate. Any chance you could chuck the song names in the description.
👍for the spirit.
6:04 is comedian Steve Martin's twin.
It seems like two years in a row you've had trouble with weather and Cessnas at Oshkosh.
I'd love to fly over from the UK and rent a light aircraft and come into oshkosh maybe next year I just started my PPL so if all goes well.
Stay tuned for part two! Coming to your screens July 2018. I don't know if I can hang on to this cliff for that long.
+Cameron L - haha - don't worry - part two is coming next Friday.
Got a GOOD head computer for spacing ....
I just can't wait to be a patreon supporter. 6 more months and I'll be able to chip in. :)
+flymesome - no pressure. Sharing and commenting on the videos helps meantime.
Post Episode 2, pleeease!
Part 2 will be published next week, just before Osh '17!
how could anybody offer thumbs down.
I want to see the second episode!!
Wow , there is no way that those 172s 182s or 206s are better than the bonanza in formation flying, bonanza is simply an whole lot better airplane, probably one of the best in term of handling
Took my cross country solo and dual to this airport. #BoseA20
So I assume the notam overrides the law on ADS-B ? It states you are not allowed to turn it off anytime in flight.
+CreekBoy - I believe that there are several "waivers" allowing for special exceptions during AirVenture. One example is that they can have multiple aircraft operating from the same runway at the same time.
CreekBoy- If I'm not mistaken, the NOTAM/LOA becomes the law for that airfield for that defined time period. With the hundreds of planes in the air, if everyone was squawking ADS-B, you wouldn't be able to see anything. The FAA is asking that transponders and the connected ADS-B equipment be turned to standby or off, as appropriate.
When can I meet you. What day? What's your schedule? Do you know Jim Koepnick? Sorry for all the questions.
+Lucas P - haha - too many questions - as for meeting: the first opportunity is Thursday at noon at the CloudAhoy booth. Other times are published on the FlightChops Facebook page.
Are you gonna be at Osh this year? If so, hope to meet you there!
+BasedShark - awesome - yes I will be there - flightchops dot com has a recent blog post that compiles all the events and meet ups I will be at.
it's a baby elephant walk!
What's the music used at the end of the video?
What is the music you used from about 14:20 to the end of the video?
Hey where is part 2?
Plus or minus thirty seconds, anywhere in the world. 13m41s
That guy sounds ridicoulously professional.
SolarWebsite Sounds like he might be a Nightstalker aka 160th guy.
Solar Website, NickXidis- Not a Nightstalker, just a conventional guy that likes to be punctual.
how do you mount the gopro for the view of both pilots
and instruments
Notification Squad!
10:15 Its a papi tho
From 94 to 87... did 7 drop out along the way?
Lynn Kramer- we had three aircraft with mechanical issues and a couple more that chose not to make the arrival due to the weather.
Anyone have an extra seat to OSH?
cool where's the next video??
Part 2 will be published Friday July 21st right before Osh '17 :)
FlightChops Awesome
What is the weather app called. I've been trying to find one
Foreflight. It's a pilot app, not just weather.
im the 1,000th like
awesome!
what is the yellow plane at 11:54 ?
Cessna Skymaster. Specifically this is a 1967 CESSNA T337C. USAF military designation was the O-2. BTW, for specifics on this plane or any plane, google the tail code (N-number, or C for Canadian aircraft) and you can find registration info from the FAA as well as current flight history on FlightAware and oftentimes photos on various planespotters' sites.
Cessna Skymaster
C skymaster
welp ok lol 2 ppl already said
this happened in july 2016
+Dr Gold - ...Aaaaand?
FlightChops just saying if somebody missed it ;)
Still don't understand what this is
did you watch the whole video as well as the other part? I'd like to hope they videos explain themselves.... but if you'd like to clarify your question I can try to explain..?
Trying?
Yoda says Do. Or do not. There is no try.... but it didn't feel right to say it that way. Wait for Part 2 and you'll find out why "trying" applies here...
