I think instructions for my '06 Super Glide said the mufflers had to come off to put on passenger pegs but I didn't read the instructions first and I put them on with out taking then off. It was a bit difficult but I got them on with out taking the mufflers off. You always keep at it 'till you get what you want done.

I just used an extension and pushed down on the exhaust and was able to get to the bolt behind it

Good video! I watched your video and another, both showing how to do the install without removing the exhaust pipes. I also watched one where they removed the pipes. I think the overall time is about the same, in the neighborhood of 3 hours. Personally, I'm going to remove the pipes to do it. I think it's simpler, overall. Maybe a few more bolts and parts to mess with, but less "fussing" with tools.

Yep it just stinks when you have to take off the headers. You should replace all the gaskets if you do. But with the pain it was to do it like I did it may be easier to take them off.

Seen some guys use a mini crescent wrench with the bit to loosen and tighten. Im gonna do mine 2morrow 😬

Good luck take your time. It was also like 100 degrees out when I did it so that doesn’t help. Let me know how you make out.

Yeah, that project is a pain for sure. I went through the same frustration as you did. Getting creative with tools vs. taking off the exhaust....pick your poison because both options definitely suck. I took the exhaust off so that I could use my torque wrenches and also ensure I had access to everything. The biggest pain for me was putting the pipes back on. They are heavy, and you might need a helper to hold it in place while you retighten it. If you decide to take the exhaust off also consider.....buy extra muffler clamps and gaskets (btwn the pipes and engine). You will likely need replacement ones after you take them apart. And if you are considering adding forward foot controls, try to kill two birds by combining it with this passenger project. You have to take the pipes off if you want to install forward controls too.

You got that right. Pick your poison neither are easy. And it’s something you would think should take 2 seconds. I definitely think if you are upgrading your exhaust you should put on the peg brackets even if you don’t intend on using them as of now. Thanks for watching and all the great info. Ride Safe

I did mine this week and took the pipes off. I don't know when HD changed everything from my '08 883 setup, but now the pipes are welded together using the crossover pipe. The crossover pipe goes over the top of a plate beneath the engine. There's a bar that attaches to two points on each muffler and also secures to the bottom of this plate.
You have to hold your mouth just right to get that whole system bolted back on. I'm betting they do it in seconds at the factory.

@@ozarkwheels4158 yes I noticed that crossover pipe when I was considering taking them off. Not easy either way.

Hi can you share the link for the sissy bar please ?

There is a video on my channel installing the luggage rack and sissy bar. I believe I left the link in the description. I think the luggage rack may be discontinued but the sissy bar should still be available. Thanks for watching hopefully that helps.

Probably not it’s the pipe in the way but hope for the best. Was that dent supposed to be in that pipe of yours or not. I went out and looked at my bike and could not see a reason for it.
