I can already predict all the comments commending Harry for doing what he is doing, and rightly so! But can I also give a shout out to Mark here.... I wish I had an instructor as good as him. Well done, guys. This is awesome.

Yeah dude, my instructor forcefully put my head on the water suddenly, I was drowning but he wasn't doing anything. He said you body will adapt. I left swimming since then but now coming forward again

Love the methodical and incremental way Mark is presenting the various aspects of swimming, building it brick by brick.
And huge props to Harry of course. The drop in his anxiety levels from episode 1 was very obvious. Way to go Harry!

for lots of people not only swimming is scary, they have no aerobic base. but the more difficult part is the fear. the psychological factor of fear is more challenging than the activity itself. i experienced this and i heard a lot of similar experiences with my friends and co-workers.

I can barely swim and the things I find it difficult to further my development is the fear of drowning and breathlessness. Well done to the instructor to successfully alleviate those fear from the learner

Awesome! I had to go through this myself a few years ago when I wanted to start doing tri. I found starting with a front mount snorkel to figure out the stroke first helped a ton. Then after getting stroke down with it I slowly learned to breath without it.

Amazing progress in just 2 sessions, Harry was clearly more relaxed in this one which must feel like a big step for him. Mark is also a great instructor, breaking it down in small steps, keep it up Harry, looking forward to the next video!

Get in the water at least a couple of times a week, consistent practice of all the new things he is learning will make a big difference to his confidence and skill level.
Stay in a pool where he can touch the bottom with his feet if swimming alone though.

Amazing! The calmness from this session compared to the first! You can see he’s ready to swim now whereas before it was a mental battle to get in the water! We’ll make a fish out of him yet!

Amazing progress by Harry, and as well amazing coaching by Mark. It is one thing to be able to explain the drills, it is much more difficult to make it understandable and accessible to someone.
Helping overcome the fear of water is an achievement in itself.

A patient and knowledgeable instructor Mark is. Making it fun for Harry to learn is the way to go. Soon Harry can work on little details to improve more. Just to conquer the anxiety is something I still struggle with but I am getting better. I know now what triggers it and how to calm and settle down. I like Harry have a long way to go and much to learn. Cheers to you both.

When you learn swimming you have to learn treading water & deadman float to stay afloat. Also learn while swimming, how to stand properly to come out of water.

The way to revolutionise teaching new swimmers is to get them straight on the centre snorkel. Unfortunately that will never happen in mass though, I believe due to snorkels not being a shareable item and the outright cost. The body possition (head down, bum up, correct kick) is therefore taught before the breathing. Freestyle kick with the kickboard and the head up and not using a snorkel is mistake taught all the way up into the advanced ranks. I'm not talking about trying to learn the arms and breathing. Just the completive kick should be done with a snorkel for natural freestyle possition.

Hey, I was wondering about starting swimming, from someone who swam as a kid, hasn’t got trauma and has done some occasional swimming since.
I used to swim a lot as a kid until teen. But came out as transgender in my late teens. Swimming became terrifying and embarrassing (it is honestly terrifying existing especially early in transition) so I stopped.
Until last year I was running 30km 5* week and cycling 80km a day for work. Had a bowel perforation followed by a broke. Collarbone (and snapped bike) this year sk have had little to no exercise for 6months including 2 months in a hospital bed. My fitness recovery plan is to do a triathlon next year!

Interesting, isn't it that you should teach him how to float first and on both sides, I feel like the lessons are reversed, his legs are always sinking ;)
