Well, the straight answer is that it’s tough and the recruitment process here is very different from India. For instance, there is no placement/campus selection system, there are university resources to guide you but you have to find your own job!! Also it depends on what LLM you are going for, the legal sector is very regulated here so there are certain stages you need to get through for example if you are going for LLM Common Law you need to find and complete articling and licensing program in that province first before you can start working as a lawyer. The market is tough and now because of COVID things are a bit more difficult than usual but everyone gets a job, it’s only a matter of time! For articling, students send out about 100 to 300 applications on an average, that is what I was told, I personally sent around 160 applications (for posted and non- posted positions) all over Canada and that’s very common here! And there are many other factors like what kind of a job you are looking for, what’s your immigration status, what’s your status in the licensing process etc. Like I said we all get there, but it’s a matter of time, some people get a job right after graduation some have to wait for months!

Hello, Surbhi. Even I am in this baffled situation, currently. If you've any info regarding this and some suggestions for the same, kindly help me as well. Thank you!
LLM common is only offered by a handful universities but there are many other good law school that offer other LLM programs, you will need to check out what specializations they offer but a few good names I can think of are Osgoode law, university of Ottawa, university of western Ontario, Windsor university, Queens, Thompson Rivers university in BC, Dalhousie University’s law school in Nova Scotia, university of Alberta! Mostly research based LLM are a lot cheaper then the course based LLMs, if that is something that interests you!
Can you please enlighten me whether a Law graduate from Delhi University is eligible to do LLM at the age of 60? What are the job prospects for such person after completion of LLM from Canada?
Hi, so I have a question. If I don't pursue LLM and give the NCA exams instead, would have affect the process of giving the licensing exams in Canada. Like, does LLM prepare you for the licensing tests. And if I'm only giving NCA's how difficult would it be to clear the licensing exams without any Canadian law education.
Depends on which LLM program you are looking for, the fee differs with specialization. I am talking about the fee for LLM common law in the video. Look for the fee per credit, current amount per credit that the website shows is $1,199.45, for international students, and to complete the LLMCL program you will need 30 credits, so whatever is the fees per credit, multiply it by 30 and that would be your tuition fees.. effective May 2021 the LLMCL fees for international students is $35,983.50.
UMESH TULI Yes! If you are studying LLM Common Law you can opt for all your NCA subjects and once you pass all those courses as part of your LLMCL degree you don’t have to write NCA exams separately! Not all LLM programs have this option, only LLM Common Law programs.
Please tell one more thing. after 1 year Llm if I do LPP - WHICH GIVES EXEMPTION FOR ARTICLING PROGRAM . CAN I GET 3 year open work permit as it is for 2 year study
I am afraid you will have to check that directly with the university/law school you are applying to, to the best of my knowledge gap years do not affect your eligibility to pursue a masters degree but I am not a 100% sure, for diplomas most college do not accept more then 5 yrs of gap but for degree that shouldn’t be a case! But again it’s best to directly write to the law school you are applying to!

I'm a qualified lawyer outside of Canada and haven't had any education about Canadian laws. Do you think it's possible for me to study the NCA Exams on my own (with online courses of course)? Thanks a lot for the informative video!
Only after you complete your LLB and are enrolled with a Bar council. For NCA assessment you need to be a lawyer of good standing in your jurisdiction and will have to provide a letter to NCA from the Bar Council.
Hello, after completing my LL.B. from Bangladesh, I’m planning to pursue LL.M.(Environmental Law) in Canada. I wanted to know after specializing in environmental law, will I get Jobs in this sector? I don’t want to practice as a lawyer but to work in NGOs. Could you please help me by providing me the information? TIA
Maam the concepts that i study in indian law is it ever going to help me in canada? I understand the laws are very different in India and Canada but is there any similarity between general principles or jurisprudence or offences as given in Indian criminal law?
NCA is not required after JD, NCA process is only for people who have completed their JD or LLB outside of Canada. JD of course will give you a better footing as compared to LLMCL, because JD offers more exposure in terms of education and training, you will be studying a wider range of courses, will have 2 summer training opportunities and then Articling, whereas, LLMCL is only 1 year of studying, your course options will be limited as compared to JD and you will have to look for Articling straight away, without any summer training experience or if you wait for the summer training then there might be a gap of few months in between! You need to weigh both options together, in terms of duration, cost, admission process etc. and see what works best for you. Also for JD in Canada, you will have to crack LSAT and you will also need an undergraduate degree.

hey! in your video you said that you took admission in masters of law and thats how you completed your nca programme.. can you explain bit more about this?
I studied LLM Common Law, these are specialized programs designed for foreign trained lawyers. I obtained my NCA assessment and then opted for the NCA courses as part of my LLM. I had to complete 5 mandatory courses for NCA which were a total of 16 credits I believe and then my law school had another mandatory research course of 5 credits for NCA Candidates. This was a total of 21 credits and I needed 30 credits to complete the LLM so I took other courses to complete the remaining 9 credits for the LLM. Once I completed my LLMCL degree I provided NCA with my final transcript and a letter from the University confirming that I have completed the LLM and all NCA courses and the NCA then issued my Certificate of Qualification.
I have got specific questions related to admission in the law school you did your LLM CL from i.e, Peter A. Allard school of law. Is there any way i could contact you? i dont mind paying as well, it would be a great help. Ps: i tried reaching out to you on linked in but couldn’t get through. Thanks and regards, Krish Parashar
You don’t need to take NCA exams only if you are studying LLM common law and opting for all of your NCA course as part of your LLM curriculum. Unless you compete your NCA courses as part of your LLM Common Degree, you will need to take those exams. Also, so far only the LLM common law programs offer this option if completing your NCAs, if you pursue some other LLM then you will need to complete NCA exams separately!
@@mshappyfeet7168 can you please guide me on if i want to do masters in corporate law then which degree they give for this and some best colleges for it ?
Hi I'm an advocate in India. I have a question Can you work in a law firm or do your articling while your LLM (common law) course is going on!! Or like do you have to finish the course then start!
@@mshappyfeet7168 thank you!! Your video really helped clear a lot of things!! Also if I want to work as a corporate lawyer non litigation, do I need to still give the bar exam!?
Thanks! Yes, no matter where and in what position you are working, if you want to work as a lawyer be it in-house, corporate, legal aid, you need to clear the NCAs and the Bar exams/ lawyer licensing process.
You will have to re-qualify as a lawyer here which means taking at 5 NCA exams and then bar exams and experiential training, unless you have practice experience in another common law jurisdiction and want to waive the experiential training. The whole process usually takes about 2 years minimum!
Hi, I’m currently going to the UK for my LLB it’s 2 years full time, when I come back to Ontario I am allowed to consider doing the LLM instead of the NCA? I just want to make sure I’m understanding you correctly.
Hi, I have planned to do my LLM in canada and I can't choose what is better the thesis based programmes or course based programmes?I have planned to apply to the university of Manitoba.plese advice😊😊
It is really up to what is your goal and what specialization you are looking for, LLM common law is only course based. The quality of research expected from you here, is pretty good! thesis based courses are usually longer than 1 year so helps with longer work permit!
Hi , your vlog is quite helpful. Can you plz guide me on the point that being a lawyer outside Canada whether ECA would be done through NCA or other ECA bodies like Wes or etc. Plz reply
Hi, thanks! NCA will only assess your law degree to determine what law courses you need to take in Canada. The ECA for immigration purposes will have to be done through WES and other similar institutions!
Plz can you guide me further . I have been working as public prosecutor for 10 years as a state lawyer on criminal side . What s my prospect of immigration as well as of profession in Canada. my wife is also a pharmacist.plz guide . Regards
Yes, if you are pursuing LLM from a designated learning institution you will be eligible for PGWP, the duration of work permit would depend on the length of your LLM program and other case to case factors!
Hello Surabhi, Hope you are doing well. Firstly thank you for putting up your experience and related process on RUclips. I am following you since last one year and all your videos are really helpful for me. After watching your videos, I decided to write the NCA exams and by the grace of God, this month I've cleared all my NCA exams. Now as my next step and as a foreign (Indian) lawyer I am planning to enroll myself for LPP program. But before proceeding further, I've certain queries and it will be really great if you kindly look into them. (a) Will getting the certification of qualification from NCA help me to get more points in Express Entry in Canada? (specifically under 7 CRS pointer) (b) Completing LPP from Ryerson college help me to get some extra points under 4b CRS pointer?
Hi Surbhi. Thanks for all the information, you really are a life saver. I just wanted to know how good a chance a person would stand had he taken up only NCA in order to practice in Canada? Or is Masters absolutely necessary in order to secure a job as a lawyer?
A masters degree in not a necessity to practice law though some sort of Canadian education will add a lot of value to your profile. You can skip the LLM part but I would highly recommend finding an Articling position which is basically a few months of paid internship or go for an LPP training but those will really help you gain work experience in Canada before you start applying for jobs as a lawyer. Practice here is very different so going through the training makes your chances of getting a job a lot better!!
@@mshappyfeet7168 Thanks a ton. I was kind of thinking along those lines as well. I could benefit from an LLM and have a first hand experience about the know hows of things around and such. So if I were to choose an LLM , I don't suppose I have to give NCA separately now do I? Your insight is helping me a great deal. thanks once again :)
MsHappyFeet hey there! Thanks for this informative video .. I just wanted to clarify if I give NCA exams directly without getting an LLM from Canada then can I get a job in Articling ?
It’s hard to say anything for sure, they might! Usually most good universities ask for at least 70% marks but if you have other things to supplement your grades like community involvement, work experience, internships, moot courts etc. Anything that can upgrade your profile overall might help!! I would say there is no harm in depending on what else you have to offer, in addition to your grades. If you don’t wanna spend $100-150 without being sure that you stand a chance, best thing to do is writing to the law school. Explain to them what your background is, what program you are interested in applying for, and your grades and other achievements. And simply ask whether it is worth applying! If they have a strict % requirement, they will let you know!
So di, Even i want to study LLM in Canada but do i need to show them my class 11th and 12th result or my final year LLB result ?. Help me with this please and also maybe can you make a video on how to apply for Canadian Universities ?. Thanks in advance di.😁
You will only have to show your grades for your LLB degree if it is a 5 year program, if you have an undergraduate degree and a 3 yr LLB then you will have to provide transcripts for both degrees, and for all terms, not just final year. Most law schools in India provide a final transcript for all semesters, if you have that then you just need to submit that final transcript with marks from all semesters.
Ma’am did you find LLM CL useful was it worth every penny spent beacuse even I am thinking to apply for masters in common law as to cut off the time which is required giving NCA exams
Hi Aditi, Yes, personally speaking, it proved to be very useful for me. It provides you with a wholesome experience and that is what you are paying for! If you pick your courses carefully and utilize all the law school resources, it is totally worth investing all that money!!

Hi, I'm a final year law student in India. Have you completed your LLM from UBC ?
So helpful! Great video
It's really really very nice the way you guide .I am really highly obliged .lots of prayers for your good happy life .Always stay blessed.
Plz can you guide me further . I have been working as public prosecutor for 10 years as a state lawyer on criminal side . What s my prospect of immigration as well as of profession in Canada. my wife is also a pharmacist.plz guide .

Hi! Do you know if after the completion of the LLM program provides a Pgwp?
Yes, if you are pursuing LLM from a designated learning institution you will be eligible for PGWP, the duration of work permit would depend on the length of your LLM program and other case to case factors!
@@mshappyfeet7168 do you recommend anyone?
Hello Surabhi,
Hope you are doing well.
(specifically under 7 CRS pointer)
(b) Completing LPP from Ryerson college help me to get some extra points under 4b CRS pointer?
@@SuperRiya16 hey! Once you complete all your NCAs and obtain your NCA certificate of qualification you become eligible for Articling!
@@SuperRiya16 LLM is not required!
Can you please tell will they accept student 60 percent marks with 1 year exp in legal field india ?
@@mshappyfeet7168 thanks a ton
@@mshappyfeet7168 Hi, Thanks for this video, do I have any chance of getting admission in LL.M anywhere in Canada with 50% in B.A LL.B?? Thanks
Ma’am did you find LLM CL useful was it worth every penny spent beacuse even I am thinking to apply for masters in common law as to cut off the time which is required giving NCA exams
Hi Aditi,
Yes, personally speaking, it proved to be very useful for me. It provides you with a wholesome experience and that is what you are paying for! If you pick your courses carefully and utilize all the law school resources, it is totally worth investing all that money!!
@@mshappyfeet7168 thank you will certainly take all tips into consideration
