The problem with this and Legacy of War, Konami outsaourced it to Appaloosa Software, not exactly the people you want continuing the legacy of Contra to the 32 bit generation.

I thought it was a good game and I had already finished Contra, Super Contra, Contra III and Contra Hard Corps many times before playing this one. IMHO I think this Contra was good a 7/10 at least, the other one Contra Legacy of War was bad though.
KAILOONE Give me Legacy Of War over this garbage. At least Legacy Of War was 2 player and they didn't cock tease you with only TWO 2D levels. You're suppose to improve on a sequel, not go backwards.

I really dont understand the hate for this and legacy of war. I have been enjoying all the contras especially legacy of war. Why? It just rubs me the right way. For some reason i wasnt disapointed. Infact first time i saw and bought this other day i never knew about these contras. Ill enjoy blasting the bad guys on these! Thanks for upload!
In my mind this game has the same problem as Star Fox: Adventures in that it was more of a Zelda game than a Star Fox game while this is more of a Tomb Raider-esque/Duke Nukem: Time To Kill kind of action/platformer. I do think the ability to customize controls helps tremendously from the previous effort Legacy of War, and I kind of like to think of this game as being an alternate timeline side-story or spin-off featuring Ray Poward. All in all, I feel it's a fun game in it's own right.
I hate metal slug, that game is filled with nothing but cheap deaths which destroys the fun factor of the games. Feels like a quarter muncher and we all saw where the arcade seen went. That game died with arcades. Contra should never cross over with that crap of a game.

It is weird when Basic Training is in 3D but when you start the game in 2D. When I was a kid, I played Basic Training over and over again because the 2D one is hard or maybe prefer 3D game I guess. I think I never left Stage 1 lol.
Played this when i was like 8 years old on the ps1, i had a few memories of it but couldn’t remember its name, just that it was a third person shooter and some in game objects and sounds. Today i started looking for it and i had to search for ps1 third person shooters. From the moment i saw the Appaloose logo i knew this was the game i was looking for. Also the power-up sound was one of the few things i remembered and god only the sound itself made me so nostalgic.
No. They shouldn't. These type of games are why the Contra franchise was nearly forgotten in the first place. And since we got Rogue Corps, Contra seems to be repeating its past over and over again since Contra is nothing more than a joke to Konami.
Contra lost its luster when the Devs lost its inspiration of the alien franchise. Then contra 4 came out with the original team and we got a true to form game. Since then, contra has been a joke to konami. Its sad.
After all these years I realized what really made me feel weird about this game..... All of the stage design is like a tomb raider setting. It's like they threw Contra into Tomb Raider.

First Stage, weightless elevator stage, and the final stage are the only stages I liked in this game. Wish the whole game was a 2.5D perspective like the first stage. Eh, still decent than Legacy Of War.
This, and "Legacy of War", are the black sheep of the series. But still, this was at a time when Konami only made an occasional suck-ass game. Now, they make nothing but suck-ass games.
I remember being baited by this game first levels, once it becomes a 3d game like Tomb Raider, it just sucked so bad. And then I fell for the same trick again when Metal Slug 3D came out on the PS2... oh well.
