  • 01:50 - Journey recap from Toronto to Montreal to Manhattan
    04:51 - How to properly tie a line to a cleat or bollard
    06:22 - Neil deGrasse Tyson joins Steve on board the "pocket cruiser" and talks about NYC highlights from the Brooklyn Bridge to Ellis Island
    17:00 - Jon & Cherie from ‪@wideeyedadventures‬ share their adventures sailing from Nova Scotia to New York City
    To prove that you don't need a million dollars to make incredible memories on the water, Steve buys a $20,000 "starter boat" - a 1994 Monterey 265 SEL - which is representative of what someone new to boating might get.
    He then takes it on an epic 750-nautical mile journey from Toronto to Montreal to New York City.
    Journey now complete, Steve can explore Manhattan's waters with local guide, ‪@StarTalk‬-host and guest star in S2:33 The Science of Boating ( • WWTV x NDT = The Scien... ), the one and only:‪@NeildeGrasseTysonVideos‬

    Amazing series. Very well put together. I watch a lot of great loop, mini loop and general boating channels. This was interesting, engaging and fun. One of the best. Then you throw NDT in the mix! Fantastic. Best of luck and keep them coming! ...Mike - Boston, MA

    This is from the National Park Service re: Ellis Island-
    Is Ellis Island in New York or New Jersey? Since a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 1998, Ellis Island, which is federal property, belongs within the territorial jurisdiction of both New York and New Jersey depending upon where you are. The Main Building, housing the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration, is within the boundary of New York State. Since the island was expanded over many years to its current 27.5 acres, this expanded area is now mostly within the territory of New Jersey. First and foremost, the entire island remains federal property, as it has been since 1808.
    Thanks for this enjoyable series.

    Really enjoyed the series.....any idea on cost for the journey? Gas / locks?

    • @WaterWaysTV
      @WaterWaysTV  2 месяца назад +1

      Champlain Locks were free. By total fluke of timing it was the 200th anniversary of the system. Gas was about $1000 from Montreal to Manhattan and slip fees were low as we anchored out one night and Albany Yacht Club isn’t bad. NYC marinas are crazy expensive but compare it to the even crazier priced hotels and it’s not bad.

    Great series Steve. Did you consider taking the Erie canal?

    • @WaterWaysTV
      @WaterWaysTV  2 месяца назад +2

      Thanks! Yes, the original plan was Erie canal return but then Neil deGrasse Tyson agreed to be a guest but it wasn't until September so that meant a change of plans. An Erie episode (or two) could be in the cards for a future season though!

      @@docdonmoskaluk the original plan was to return via the Erie Canal through Oswego but due to time restrictions around Neil deGrasse Tyson’s interview so we towed it back.
