Water heaters must be strapped to prevent movement during earthquakes. The strapping must be in the upper and lower 1/3 of the tank, wrap around the tank, and fasten securely to the wall.

How do you add seismic straps to a water heater not near any walls - like sitting in the middle of the crawl space under an old house?
