the main reason talonflame fell out of ou was because their ability gale wings was giga nerfed in gen 7. gale wings was such an absurdly good ability that it made putting up with his rocks weakness bearable, without that they has nothing going for them (at least i *think* thats why. im almost completely certain lol)
I do know it got nerfed later on, but as far as I knew (which is not much), the un-OU-ing happened in Gen 6. But this was recorded a while back, so I don't remember what I meant exactly.
@@SuprapikaGuess this is where I pop in now. Basically the reasons why talonflame isn’t the face of gen 6 ou is rather simple, the metagame changed to be more hostile towards it. It’s rather simple really, applies to any competitive game for that matter, people try out the new things because there new and think that it’s completely broken or something, later on though, players adapt to these characters and the metagame evolves in turn. Same could be said to talonflame, people adapted to it and changes to the metagame made it more hostile towards it. Talonflame is still good, it just isn’t the be all end all that most people would think in gen 6 ou.
@@JudgeofSpookyArchetypes To clarify further if it isn't possible for the metagame to healthily adapt to a threat ("overcentralizing", where you need HIGHLY specific niche checks/counters to this threat that are ONLY good for this threat), it needs to be banned. Such as Gen 4 Garchomp or Salamence, who were so OP that "checks"/counters relied on moveset baiting (to see what they were doing) AND then using a HIGHLY SPECIFIC Pokemon that would basically ONLY be good to stop them. The issue is YacheChomp existed. The things that counter Talonflame are generally good moves or Pokemon you'd want to use anyway. Of course this all gets thrown to hell when you look at how cancerous Gen 5 OU was with the Genies.
tbh, competitive pokemon is funny because its a bunch of people overanalyzing *pokemon* of all things and being toxic over things. they take it so seriously its hilarious
