  • Developed for commuters, the Hudson is one of Bern’s safest helmets. It’s also recently won the 2021 outdoor retailer innovation award thanks to its sleek urban design, functionality and safety ratings. The urban styling and fabric bill looks sleek around town while the MIPS liner and in-mold construction ensure safety. E-Bike riders will also be excited with the NTA-8776 certification which means the helmet has also been tested in higher speed impacts. The Bern Hudson is available in six different matte colors with a competitive retail price of only $119.99. Similar to Bern’s winter sports helmets, the Hudson has a commuter style profile with extended rear portion and 13 strategically placed vents.
    Designed with urban cyclists or bike commuters, the Bern Hudson has a traditional urban helmet design which means it has a dome shape with an extended rear profile for additional protection. Visually, the helmet looks similar to Bern’s snowboarding or skiing helmets with conservative styling and 13 smaller vents. Unlike road cycling helmets that look more like swiss cheese, the Hudson has the vents strategically placed along the front and sides of the helmet. With the matte white color scheme we have, the helmet looks sleek with complementary gray straps and fabric bill. Bern also offers the helmet in five other matte finishes with complementary accent colors that help give the Hudson a more premium appearance.

    I'm looking forward to you reviewing the Xnito helmet. It meets the Dutch NTA-8776 standard. Comes with a be seen head and tail light.

    Most comfortable urban assault helmet I’ve tried.

      I'd recommend checking out the Lazer Urbanize as well (ruclips.net/video/OHfmlzWr2wQ/видео.html) it looks even more like a police riot helmet and has some additional features.

    Good review! One question - where is it made?

  • @mikecons
    @mikecons 3 года назад +3

    Awesome review! I'm a size 59, does this fit tight or loose? Medium us up until 59 while Large starts at 59 so I'm right up the middle! Does the shell differ in size as well or is the size determined by the inner lining and not the outer shell?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  3 года назад +1

      I'm a size 58, and the Hudson feels comfortable with more room to spare (the Safety Labs E-Bham helmet medium size feels tight in comparison) so I think you should be good with the medium size as well. I'm not sure what changes with the size differences, but I've always assumed the outershell would be different.

    Thanks for the review.
    Just ordered this for my recently-acquired Radmission ebike.
    You mentioned that a helmet storage bag is not included. Have you found a good bag for this helmet?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Год назад

      That's a good question, I've never really searched for an aftermarket bag. I think any fabric drawstring style bag would work. If you avoid "helmet bag" and just search for a more generic style bag you should be able to find them for cheap.

    Another excellent review.
    What's your take on the thousand heritage and chapter collections?
    New commuter cyclist and never owned a helmet and the thousand peaks my interest for style tho I am looking at others too.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  3 года назад

      Good question - we've reviewed both of the Thousand helmets already (ruclips.net/video/3ggu1TN8rRA/видео.html / ruclips.net/video/y0L_nileyvo/видео.html) and show the Hudson side by side with the Chapter in the review. The Thousand helmets definitely have a sleek style to them, especially the Heritage with it's stripes/metallic colors. That said, I prefer the taillight on the Hudson (the Chapter taillight drains if you leave it mounted on the helmet) and the NTA-8776 certification which should theoretically make it a safer helmet. If you want the additional safety feature and a fabric bill I would go with the Hudson, but if you wants something with more style the Thousand Chapter is the better option currently.

    Ebike riders definitely need to consider 8776 as most non 8776 helmets are rated to only 15 mph. I like bern due to both 8776 and MIPS. I seriously considered Xnito. Xnito has the 8776 but currently does not have MIPS with it.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  5 месяцев назад

      The good news is that NTA-8776 is becoming much more popular. Many "e-bike" helmets already have the rating along with additonal rotational safety systems like MIPS so there are more helmets to choose from.

    Great review: very useful, thank you! I got confused, though, at 12:05, when the final-score caption called it a "Bern Sphere MIPS". Why Sphere and not Hudson?

    I usually do occasional cycling, go out in a group with my companions, and occasionally go on the road at night, but my bike is a mountain bike, what helmet can you recommend? By the way, what does "MIPS" mean? Does it make a better helmet?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  3 года назад +3

      You'll want a helmet that has the right combination of features + ventilation for the type of riding you do. The Bern Hudson might not have enough ventilation for mountain biking, especially if you do a lot of climbing. Something like the Lazer Chameleon (ruclips.net/video/Dyk87H_0-lM/видео.html) or the Sweet Protection Dissenter (ruclips.net/video/TEtLn-SfE1M/видео.html) would have better ventilation.
      MIPS stands for "Multi-Directional Impact Protection System", it's a clever rotational insert that is supposed to make helmets safer in an accident. I'd recommend looking at their website mipsprotection.com/ for more information about the technology and design.

    Are all bern helmets nat8776 rated?Thankyou?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Год назад +1

      No, not all helmets are necessarily NTA-8776 rated in their lineup. I'd recommend checking the specs on the helmet pages to see if they were tested for it or not. The good news is many of the new commuter helmets on the market are NTA-8776 rated these days as e-bikes have become much more popular.

    do you lose protection if you wear it without the visor?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  2 года назад

      No, the visor is just for blocking out the sun. Bern includes an additional pad you can use in place of the visor portion so that it's still comfortable to wear.
