    what happens if I take or make a phone call from my home country (say Canada) while I'm using airalo in the US? Do I end up paying roaming fees from my main sim or does this route through the eSIM? Thanks!

    • @TKBay
      @TKBay  Год назад +1

      The E Sims only support data, so only data connections will work. If you're making a phone call using a voiceover IP service like WhatsApp or Skype then no, no additional calls or fees will happen to your main sim card from Canada. But if you do make a landline call meeting, you pick up your dialer and you make a regular call. Yes, that will go through as an international call for you. The only provide data essims

    Thanks for the info. I do have a question however as we typically travel overseas and when we do we disconnect from our US (home) cell phone service as we had been getting a sim card overseas with data and some voice capability. IF we go with Airalo and do NOT have a voice phone service active, can we still do WhatsApp calls as not sure how that could be done when we would not have a actual phone number to use for it. Please advise as we usually use WhatsApp when in Europe. Thank you for your help

    I just found out about Airalo.
    I just want to know what my first step is? I'm in Canada and in going to Dubai and London soon. So, is my first step to find out if my phone is unlocked and accepts 'e-sims' (I have a Samsung S22)?
    Please let me know... as I'm leaving next week.

    • @TKBay
      @TKBay  Год назад

      The s22 does support esims and as long as you can buy it from a carrier like Rogers you should be able to install this E sim without an issue. If you bought your phone from the phone company then you need to call them and get them to give you the unlock code so that your phone becomes Sim free

    • @SunnyKayy
      @SunnyKayy Год назад +1

      @TKBay ... ok.
      I bought my phone from my phone provider, Telus.
      I'll call them now to see my next moves. Is it a physical card or just a code that I'll get from them?

    • @TKBay
      @TKBay  Год назад +1

      So what ends up happening is you're going to need to put a different SIM card into your phone from another company and it's going to ask you for an unlock code. Now tellus may have and unlock method for their Samsung devices. I am sure they will let you know how to unlock your phone SIM

    Hi TK would you recommend esim for someone working on cruiseships?

    • @TKBay
      @TKBay  Год назад +1

      I would not recommend an ESIM for usage on the cruise ship, but I would recommend it for you whenever you get into any of the ports that you're visiting. On a cruise ship there is no specific geographic grouping so you won't be able to find an event that works like that. But every time you dock you'll be able to get a SIM card that covers you for that and then you can get as small as amount as you need or as large of an amount as you need.

    I’ve used Airalo eSIM service in the United States and Sweden and both instances, i bought a local eSIM (meaning, only works in that country).
    I have an iPhone and it worked very well. No changes to APN settings or anything like that. I didn’t even enable roaming since it was a country specific eSIM.
    My next trip will be to multiple countries in Europe so I’m debating if i want it get a SIM for each or just a regional EuroSIM. Given how easy they are to set up, I’m leaning towards country specific.

    • @TKBay

      I just got back from Mexico and Airalo worked perfectly. I used it twice in Canada last summer too, and I’ll be using it again in the UK in March. Totally recommend trying it out! Just know that after you land, it may take a bit for it to get connected properly (like maybe a half hour or so), since that happened in both Toronto and Mexico for me.

I found it stressful arriving in the country and worried that I was being charged huge amounts by my home carrier because I was unsure I had my settings correct.
