  • Well, definitely taking a turn for the worst in this tale of woes for this Golf R... After an afternoon of pulls on the dyno, we started to map in a low boost map on the switchable maps, and then disaster!!!
    The saga continues..........

    Ouch man, that's painful. The road to 600+ is hard enough as it is!

    Hmm. I’d imagine if that has gone ring bound it’d break the alloy piston way before that rod / cap and bolt set fails. Looks like an oil starvation issue spun bearing and bang. Bet there is nothing left of big end shells.

      Could well be! Itching to strip it down - piston appears to be solid in the bore though, hard to tell either way but I’m sure we will find out

    oil pressure issue... rod caps dont turn blue because of ring gaps......... the initial oil pressure/pipe issue probably caused some bearing damage, which when leaned on, finished the job, seized, snapped.. bye bye engine. Ouchy

    Owner's having no luck with that at all. hope he goes back to who did the shoddy work and makes him pay to repair it. There seems to be a lot of people out there doing engine work who really shouldn't be. Good stuff mate 👍👍

      Yeah I’m genuinely gutted for him, but these aren’t simple engines and somewhat very different from your average performance 4 cylinder - lots of things you can do incorrectly and even slightly incorrect torquing of some components can cause catastrophic damage. I guess there are a lot of garages that want to be seen that they can do jobs, but if in doubt or new to a specific engine you should always research what you’re working with - will be interesting to see if I’m right regarding the ring gaps, I’ll be removing them and measuring the gap for sure

    Was this running an aftermarket oil cooler set up?

    • @wosa9461
      @wosa9461  Год назад

      Racing line Oil cooler - original mechanic had the lines wrong way around which I presume was the issue with low oil pressure warning when it was started, I had put a stock housing on during run in and come dyno day a new filter for the cooler was replaced, oil pressure was tested externally come pre dyno checks and was showing good pressure low and high
