This is from: "The Best of Meg Christian". The song: "Sweet Darlin' Woman". My sincere apologies to all the beautiful heroines that I have ommitted here.
this is the best women's song ever. i still get goose bumps listening to it. Meg, wherever you are, and whatever your name is now, know that this song was a big, big deal to a lot of us when we needed it.
Me too, I just celebrated 22 years sober, and Meg's song about- going home to the south, it could have happened anywhere - really helped me come to terms with myself and my life.
My goodness...thank you for posting this....i first saw Meg and Holly Near in concert in 78? 79?ish in Joplin MO. Never saw so many wimmin in my life...thought I'd died and gone to heaven...
This is my come out song. Saw her when she was with Holly Near in NYC with my sweet darlin' woman. She did disappear, but I've remembered her all my life.
I have celebrated womens music for decades, and I've always found her lyric writing very moving and passionate. Her musical talant is impecable , better than many other performers, and her voice like an Angel. :)
I love this song. This song and several others got me through Desert Storm and Shield. Thank you U Tube. I had this on cassette and you can imagine how long ago that was and the advances of technology. WOW!!!
Thank you so much for including Tret Fure in your retrospective! She's so often overlooked, but what a talented guitarist and singer. And of course the phenomenal Janis Ian!
Shimbavi (Meg) do you see all these comments? Even if you no longer want to be a part of it all and I totally understand but hey Meg you left an indelible mark in all of our souls and that must be so satisfying for you. Me from all the way in Ireland, jeez that must feel good... No ? well hey we love you anyway... Keep singing for what you believe in woman xx
First time I saw a live women's music concert it was Meg and Holly in Cleveland in 1976 or 77, looking just like they did in the last photo in this video. I had Meg's album "I Know You Know," but seeing them live was overwhelming. I cried through the entire concert. They sang this song and said it was about how women sometimes toy with each other's affections because we don't value each other enough. Politics on top of the art, you know. Still true and still a great song.
Grateful to have had this music in my life. I love the collage. I recognize many of the women, but, Sunsong23, could you please provide captions so I can look up the ones I don’t know? And so we can honor the musical mothers/grandmothers who brought us into new worlds?
I just dug out my old cd "Best of Meg Christian" and my oh my. Meg - come back to us. Do we have to go on a cruise to see you? Come to gay ol' Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. I can dream. j
Amazing energy.... I have a question -- I'm trying to find a women's music song from about this time period, with this lyric: "We came close enough to see....some day it might be...." Was this a Meg/Cris song? A Cris song? A Meg song? A Betsy Rose song? Even Google is stumped. 🙂

I miss the days when Meg, Cris, Holly, Trey & Margie played in Denver. This music saved me many times! Thanks to all of you!
ah... the voice, the lyrics, the timelessness of the song. I learned this in my late 20's, now in my early 60's. So many beautiful memories....
