@@__sm1441 That's no doubt a significant contribution to it 👍🏻! The Navajo sandstone that makes up these cliffs (and much of what you see throughout the Colorado Plateau, including the domes in Zion, among other areas) is pretty porous. So, as the levels of the lake have dropped, you have a double-whammy of the relatively abrupt dropping the hydraulic pressure against the facies of the sandstone as the water levels drop, coupled with an evaporation of the water that had saturated the normal fissure lines within the rock, weakening them. At a given moment in time, the effect of gravity overcomes the cohesion of the sandstone grains, and this is what you get. I'm not a geologist, but I am a geology nerd who has read several books on the geology of the Colorado Plateau, and loves to geek out on this stuff 😂. Sedimentary rocks - such as sandstone, limestone, mudstone, etc. - erode at various rates and in various ways, depending upon their method of deposition, particle size, etc. In general, cliff-forming rocks will have episodic erosions like this, where large chunks of rock will suddenly break off, whereas slope-forming rocks (mudstones) are eroded by a more gradual, continuous process. Then, something like differential erosion will give you fun, otherworldly formations like hoodoos (you can google "Bisti badlands" to see examples). The Fisher Towers near Moab are an interesting exception to softer rock eroding to vertical cliffs. More of that going to happen...no water to support the sides of those cliffs. We saw the same thing happen to portions of the seawall where I live...the lake level dropped and portions of the seawall began to lean in towards the lake cause no water to support it.
The seawall is engineered for the water pressure, cliffs are just rocks, their structure was not engineered. Im going with errosion + gravity like most rock slides.

Great observation......
It will still be blamed on climate change.
There's a RUclips clip titled " Brazil Cliff Collapse Kills at Least 10 " which shows how lucky these people were to not be close in.
Where can we find a clip , with out the cackling hens ? It would be nice to hear the crashing noise.

Water pressure is 0.43 psi per foot in depth. However, during winter ice expands wedging rocks loose. Gravity does the rest.
It makes me think of the pool I had when I was a kid. If there wasn’t enough water in it, the sides would collapse inwards.
this is why i stay away from edges like this on my beach ... happend couple times people got killed
With all that exposed lake bed drying out I'm sure there has been a lot more of calving , just not seen by anyone!
Yes, less water pressure holding up the rock sides.

Vertical recorders are the worst. Landscape, people!
💯💯💯, freaking tik tokkers man. Lol
Any chance of an explanation as to how and why this happened?
This is probably due to that fact that lake Powell lost a lot of water and the water pressure was not there no more to keep it from falling down
Thank God noone was standing on it at the time

Something like this happened last year too
Yes, multiple people were killed in that one.
