Yes, I know they're Seadoos. Who is out there searching "Seadoos and slot canyons"? No one. No one is searching that.
    Anyway...
So I said we'd do some 'mellower' stuff. This wasn't really mellow. This was incredible. Sure, we're hikers, but when a once in a lifetime opportunity presents itself, you accept. And that's what happened here. We were staying at Under Canvas between Kanab, Utah and Page, Arizona and had the chance to take some Seadoos out onto Lake Powell for the day. We jumped at the chance.
Now neither of us have much experience on jet skis. But I have a background with snowmobiles and dirt bikes and Tina has ridden her share of....well, about all sorts of off road vehicles. So it felt natural right from the start even though we played up that we didn't know what we were doing.
It was the off season, so boat traffic on Lake Powell was at a minimum. The lake water was like glass for almost the entire day. So we set off for Lake Powell Experience in Page, AZ. Here's their website:
    lakepowellxperience.com/
I didn't get any special deal from them, or anything. But they were great, so I recommend them. They had the Seadoos all set up on the trailer and ready to go, so it was off to Wahweap Marina to get our day started.
Right away, we ran into trouble. We had the route we wanted marked...but couldn't seem to find it. The problem was the water level in Lake Powell. It was low. Super low. Historically low. So the route we wanted to take was now above ground. A quick navigational adjustment and we were back in business.
The first destination was Labyrinth Canyon. Labyrinth Canyon is a pretty well known slot canyon off the lake and a destination for boats, jet skis and kayakers. It was a no wake zone, so we had to take it slow, but it was still incredible. The feeling of being in a slot canyon on the water is something I haven't experienced before and it did not dissapoint. Labyrinth Canyon is worth the stop off...and maybe a hike up it if you can land your craft.
Next up was Face Canyon. I've never heard of Face Canyon before, but had read it was even better than Labyrinth Canyon and....it was. It must be too far for kayakers, because there was no wake zone sign, which made it a lot more fun. Because it's great to take it slow and enjoy the experience, but something about the throttle on that Seadoo kept telling me to send it. (I really wanted to title this video "You know we're gonna SEND IT!")
After that it was off to the Toilet Bowl. Or where the guy at the rental place told us the Toilet Bowl would be. And...it was. Sort of. The Toilet Bowl we found was not the Toilet Bowl I had seen in videos, but it was still interesting. Come to find out, it IS called the Toilet Bowl, but so is another, similar rock formation further down canyon that we missed.
On the way back we came across a random boat, stranded on some rocks. Looked like it had been there for quite a while. I'm not reall sure how you lose a boat, but someone did. If you're reading this and that's your boat, firstly, that sucks. Secondly, hit me up and for a price I may tell you where it is. (I'm mostly kidding.)
As a word of advice; take extra gas. We turned around with more than half a tank and still ended up having to stop off at Antelope Point Marina to refuel. Running out of gas would not have been fun.
Then it was off to see Glen Canyon Dam from the water. Of course, you can't get too close to Glen Canyon Dam for security reasons, but it was still worth the stop off. I've looked at it enough times from the bridge above.
And that was it. The day was over and it was time to head back to Wahweap Marina. An incredible day riding Seadoos across Lake Powell....mostly having the lake to ourselves. If you haven't tried this and have an opportunity to do so, go for it. You won't be dissapointed. Unless you strand yourself on a random rock or something. But that probably won't happen.

@@JerryArizona Afternoon storms can bring in some pretty solid winds. If a houseboat has an engine failure, then it can get blown up against the walls in a channel where the waves will just pound it, fill the bilge faster than the pumps can remove it and eventually sink the boat. Wonderful to see the current diminished lake. I circumnavigated it in a canoe in 1983, over 300 miles, rented houseboats in the later 80s and bought and kept my own boat there at Big Water from 1993-2002 when I repatriated it to NJ when the lake started to seriously dry up. My favorite canyon for camping was Gunsight. I noticed no sign of the annoying Navajo Generating Station in the background while you were going around Wahweap Bay and guess it is gone? Over the years I have come to want to see the dam be demolished and the area allowed to return to its natural state. Maybe nature will take care of that itself. It almost succeeded before when there was too much water.

Bought mine off Amazon. Tina had some from scuba diving. I'm pretty sure they'll rent them to you where you rent jet skis though.

    I have so many questions:
How long were you on the lake? Is taking extra gas on the jet ski an option?

It's been a minute, but maybe 8~10 hours? We had spare fuel cans on the jet skis and had to stop and refuel toward the end of the day. I believe I put the place we rented them from in the description.

You think that's a freakin great trip for your birthday - ? Just try jet skiing around the crystal clear springs in Florida! Powell ain't got nothin on beautiful clear water in those springs!

Haven't done that, but we did get to jet ski around Key West. And it was pretty amazing.

Some Folk are Just Not Boaters and looking at your video I would say you are those people Stay on the trails You should not boat when the waters are that low to much danger.

The main channel was over 350' deep. I'd say we had clearance. Sure, you had to watch for rocks outside of the channel, but that's always the case regardless of water level.

Yeah, I figured we were not using all the right terms. But like I said, we're hikers. For people like us who don't do this type of thing often, they're all called 'jet skis'. I get it though. When you ARE experienced it's annoying to hear the wrong terms used. I'm not changing the title though; nobody is searching "Riding Seadoos on Lake Powell."
