The West suffered a significant setback the moment Russia occupied Crimea in 2014, failing to uphold its security guarantees to Ukraine. This breach of the Budapest Memorandum introduced more uncertainty among so-called allies (a friendly jab at the host’s earlier remark about the "so-called" Victory Plan). If the United States and the United Kingdom conveniently disregarded their commitments to Ukraine, why should we believe that other countries like Estonia, Latvia, or Poland would not also be abandoned in a time of crisis? After all, confronting a dictator would be considered "escalation," right? And Article 5 is merely a suggestion, isn't it? The Victory Plan can and will succeed if implemented. However, the shortsightedness of many prevents the public from grasping the true cost of failing Ukraine back in 2014, and even more so now. We face global nuclear security erosion, military and strategic setbacks, economic instability, diplomatic and global influence loss, and much more. What a time to be alive!

Came here from Task & Purpose, saw Pyotyr's vids and got interested. On this one, I have the opinion that the fundamental problem with NATO is attitude, not equipment, money, or tech. Most of the Western countries (especially further west you go, minus UK, France, and a few others) have had a very long period where they had peace, then didn't even have to think about military affairs seriously. Now they are being forced by events to consider preparing for a second cold war of unknown length and seriousness, and...they don't want to do that. They don't even want to look at it squarely. I am not just talking about their governments, but their societies. It's one thing to throw gear to the Ukrainians, or announce you'll increase defence spending...sometime soon, but quite another to say "we need to regenerate our military & warrior ethos on a large scale and be prepared to defend ourselves". Germany especially hates this idea.
Actually, Ukranian defence industry has considerable unused production capacity, but lacks funding. Hence Denmark recently placed an order for 10 Ukranian "Bodana" self propelled artillery systems, as a donation. All the Nordic countries recently met together with Zelensky in Iceland. And it seems, as I understand from several statements by Nordic leaders and ministers, the main plan is how to long term bolster Ukranian defence production - but right now, a lot can be done by simply providing funding. Interestingly, just half a year into the full scale invasion, the then Swedish defence minister, publicly stated "that we are going to have to discuss how to increase ammunition production, as just donating from stocks isn't going to work". I jumped at that statement, and he sayed it long before anyone else started mentioning the issue.
Regarding North Korean troops. Russia and North Korea have a kind of mutual defense treaty. When Zelensky sent troops to Russian territory, he literally untied Putin's hands. Therefore, their presence on Russian territory to protect Russian land is not an escalation, but rather a direct fulfillment of allied obligations. The West simply does not have any legal reasons for indignation. P.S. Zelensky's strategic mastery continues to amaze me.
This is russian BS. Russia has voluntarily entered the war in 2014, and Ukraine just continues to defend itself based on the UN charter among other things, it is in fact much better to defend on your enemy's territory than yours. Nobody is allowed to cooperate with Nort Korea militarily. The Kursk incursion changes nothing in these respects.

Undoubtedly it is not in the US interest to let russia build some kind of empire, especially when the tension with China is on the rise. So yes, being benevolent to your strategic adversary when breaking all rules in order to enhance its position against you, giving in to nuclear blackmail is crying weakness. The US and EU countries are nowhere near to spending the entirety of their resources, they are nowhere near the resources for the First Gulf War. IMO the drip feeding makes it cost more than a decisive move in 2022 would. If UA were to lose, the problem would not go away, it would only exacerbate and still cost the west lots and lots of money and military spending.
