Sorry I haven't been around, life happens.... But one thing be known, for 32yrs, I listened to you, and the memories on each song, bring me back to a time of learning in life.
My father died on fathers day 2019. He never said he loved me . I guess he thought I knew. Don't be such a tough guy that you leave without telling your family how you feel.
Im sure he loved you some fathers dont say it but they do my father died 2 years ago he never said it but on his last days he whispered in my ear said he was proud and love me at times I still hear his whispered say I love you
Father’s esp my dads generation, he’s 80 right now, were really taught to keep a stiff upper lip, keep emotions hidden and men don’t cry. (Which once I married I learned isn’t true - rarely but they cry) I’ve always told ‘my dad I loved him and for years he’d smile and say thank you or ok. As the years have gone by and he’s softened a little he chokes out an “I love you too” but it’s still not easy. 🤷♀️ I’m positive your dad loved you far more than you’ll ever know. Dads are just tricky. 🙂
This fits my dad perfectly, we lost him coming up on a year this month. It still doesn't feel real. Always wished he would be here when I'm older, I turn 30 next month. The day he passed I lost more than my father, lost the best friend I could ever ask for and that I'll never ever get back. Yeah my kids are my best friends but it'll never be the same..
My dad's been gone 28 years now, and I never heard those 3 words from him, he was always working...and everyone has tried to tell me he loved me and was proud of me. I will always hope they're right. Our sons have rarely had a day go by that they heard us tell them we loved them and that we were proud of them. I never wanted them to wonder some day if they were loved. I even wondered if I was wanted because they thought mom couldn't get pregnant again. My sisters were 18 and 13 when I came along. It's been interesting to not know how you fit in.
oh gosh!!😢😭 i cried a lot! i was just passing by to look some songs while travelling home, and this song was accidentally i clicked. and. tears fell down on me as i remember my dad before he left for an operational duty. he is an army-ranger and he whispered me "i'll be back" before he go to operation far away from home. and months later all just back home was his things and his army boots. He died on an operation way-back 1990 and i could not forget what he whispered to me until now. thanks to this song.
I have been a Billy Dean fan for as long as I can remember. I have heard some very moving songs from you, but I really think this one is the best you have ever done. It is a pleasure to hear it. You brought tears to my eyes as you made me think of my step-dad and everything I went through with him before he passed away. Never stop singing Billy, your voice is truly a gift from heaven.
We "lost" my father in WWII... he survived when most of his brothers in arms didn't, but when I was a boy his friends and sisters told me he was never the same afterwards...not even close. He never lost the demons and terrors but always kept his ability to be a good father to us, was always there. A better man never existed. This song reminds me of him. Thanks, Pop.
First time I saw Billy Dean was Springfield music fest 1989. What an amazing artist. Down to earth, kind and easy on the eyes. Beautiful rendition of this classic Reba song. I love Billy the Kid!
Billy did a great job on this Reba classic. But don't forget LeAnn Rimes' stunning and emotionally beautiful rendition, sung for Reba's benefit at Reba's tribute show. Reba loved it as did the audience who gave it a 100% standing ovation.
Richard Leigh's hands are those at the piano and the song is from his own life, as he tells his songwriting seminar participants. He lived all his songs and Billy Dean is the guy to sing this.
Billy Dean can really deliver this one.... his emotion and face convey the song so well. He understands that the composer writes all his songs about his own life and made himself into a Nashville Songwriters' Hall Of Fame member. Richard Leigh lived all his hit songs. It appears to be Richard playing the piano part. Listen to the beautiful orchestration and the slight double-track of the vocal. This is very well made.
Beautiful! I came here after seeing you on American Idol. You had tears in your eyes when Chloe got through the American Idol auditions. You wear your emotions on your sleeve and in your music. :)
My daddy's name , oddly enough, was Billy Dean. He died when I was just a few days old. Never saw a picture of him till I was in my 30s and it wasn't a close up. I know so little about him. I wish I could have known him and my mom .
Reba sings this song! This song makes me cry! I was a lucky kid, knew my Dad loved me! This song is probably true for many kids of years gone by! Dad's didn't usually show a lot of emotion back then! They were veterans, too tough! But inside they ached to say how they felt!
Man my dad who was a nam war hero great dad..died like in this song ..died near a year ago...was in icu a floor away from me as I fought for my life with him...he died an hour before I awoke from a 22 day Coma ..this song just made a 36 year old man cry like. baby..I'd never heard it...great song
Wow!!! That was awesome!! Looks like it was filmed in HD such a sharp picture!!! Great job ,Billy!!! Congrats Richard on writing such a great song!!! Love ya Sheila
I knew of Reba's version, but I saw Billy Dean on The Nashville Network talking about this album, and doing his song.......It just floored me.....This is an amazing video.......
Yes Billy did a great job on this Reba's classic. But don't forget LeAnn Rimes stunning rendition sung for Reba's benefit at Reba's tribute show. Reba loved it as did the audience who gave it a 100% standing ovation.
What an unbelievable job you did on that, sir!!! Just heard one of your songs and made me remember yours is one of the most beautiful I have heard in my life. Seriously ♥️
+Elizabeth Harris --makes me cry too. I know my Dad loved me--guess he didn't know how to express it. But I would tell him that I loved him whenever I got the chance. Hope he is R.I.P. Love ya Dad.
I've wished my entire life I would have had a good relationship with my father, but it just wasn't in the cards. Give your father's a hug, he's the only one you'll ever get.
louie2037 Sorry you wasn't close to your dad. I must say, My father was a wonderful man. We didn't have much but we had all we needed. My parent's raised 4 girls. Miss them so much.
M DAYEL Thank you for you r posting. Funny thing is, he gave us everything we wanted; but he never gave himself. He gave us everthing, but he gave us nothing, Well, I made sure to give my kids everything of myself that I could, and I do the same for my grandkids. So, maybe, he gave me something after all.
Chris b I was blessd I had a wonderful dad he was gone a lot at sea but he always came home he loved mom till the end she passed in his arms thanks for this song dad passsed at 85 years old they are together.
Rest in peace to my grandfather We lived under the same roof but barely interacted much and I regret it to this day. He died last year January 31 2017. I thought I had more time with him because two days before he died he was suppose to be the preacher to marry me and my husband. He was so happy.
Beautiful song!! I relate to this song cuz it’s like you’re singing about my Dad!❤️ You always know how to tug at my heartstrings with your music!😢💔 Thank you for sharing your music with us!!!💙💙💙

I’m sorry that happened to you, brother. God be with you.

Billy Dean, you done a wonderful job with this song. I lost my dad in 1969 and I miss him every day.
I used to be in the "Lions Club" and we sponsored our local county fair. We had Billy Dean come and play one year. Super, super nice guy.
I can't help but get the feeling that Billy Dean is just a good , kind and decent human being
Billy Dean's songs really hit differently listening to them now in my 50s than they did in my early 20s...
One of the most incredible voices I've witnessed in my 68 years!
20 years gone and still hurts.

Billy.. loved your talent for 30 years. i chased Nashville for years when i finally found God. good work sir.
What a beautiful and emotional Song. It reminds me of my Father. Who passed away 24 years ago. It's really heart touching.
You don't find voices like his very often. God I miss Billy the kid. 😉 Greatness here.

Billy is the best....beautiful singer.
Brings tears to my eyes and reminds me to call my dad. We're not as close as I wish we were, sadly. It's never too late.

The greatest man I never knew
Lived just down the hall
And every day we said, "Hello"
But never touched at all
He was in his paper
I was in my room
How was I to know he thought I hung the moon?
The greatest man I never knew
Came home late every night
He never had too much to say
Too much was on his mind
I never really knew him
Oh, and now it seems so sad
Everything he gave to us, took all he had
Then the days turned into years
And the memories to black and white
He grew cold like an old winter wind
Blowing across my life
The greatest words I never heard
I guess I'll never hear
The man I thought could never die
Has been dead almost a year
Oh, he was good at business
But there was business left to do
He never said he loved me
Guess he thought I knew
