That, sweet, shy, almost embarrassed smile @ 1:13 is how I will remember Sinead. People have commented on how brave she was and they're right. She called out the abuse by the Catholic Church a long time before the scandals started coming to light. Inside, I think she was always that abused little girl at heart.
I've heard Pink Floyd sing this song so many times, but never heard Sinead sing it until now. It's breaking my heart. We've lost a unique woman with the voice of angels. RIP Sinead. We will miss you more than you will ever know.
This song takes on a new meaning when you consider the wall that Sinead built around herself to keep the world at bay. Beautiful voice, beautiful soul, beautiful woman. I hope she finds a peace in the afterlife that she never found in this life. Suaimhneas Síoraí, Sinead.
I remember watching an interview with Sinead where she said "I don't like rehersing new songs, I would rather just sing it and see how it end's up! That's how amazing her voice is!!!
Not only does this performance feature Sinead O'Connor (bless you Sinead, you were always correct about the "real enemy"), The Band's Garth Hudson (accordion), Rick Danko and Levon Helm (sharing vocals on the chorus with Roger Waters), but also includes The Hooters' Eric Bazilian, Rob Hyman, John Lilley, Fran Smith Jr. and David Uosikkinen (6:18).
Obviously Sinead is the centerpiece here, but I was happy to see Garth Hudson (ooh, there's going to be a Band influence in this version), but then super surprised to see Levon and Rick on board too! It's almost a testament to them that hardly anyone is mentioning them, they're just providing the best platform for Sinead to shine.
I'm left wondering how these two teamed up for this song as her mother abused this young lady when she was little. Carried all that pain all those yrs. we were blessed with her powerful music and voice......r.i.p. No more pain and suffering daily, life is so hard as it is let alone being abused as a child, many of us are left in serious pain all the days of our lives.

Beautiful and powerful. You can feel this in your soul. Gives you the shivers hearing her sing and thinking about the way her Mother treated her. Makes me cry. Rest in Heaven Sinead.
I WAS THERE!!!! I was there at The Wall concert, it was held in the Potsdamer Platz, right under the Brandenburg Gate, (although the horses had yet to be turned back to face the right direction.) It was a hot day, and a lot of people there, to be sure. I remember the autobahn on the way there was so packed, that for a while we shut off the car and just hung out on the highway! It was packed, bumper to bumper. At the show, imagine, it was a hot day and we couldn't wait for the sun to go done and cool us off. It was hot and dusty, the Potsdamer Platz was quite literally "No mans land" it was the dead space between the wall and the guard towers of East Berlin, so nobody ever walked there, except perhaps some guards. So no grass, not even weeds. Just dirt and dust. Not enough bathrooms, and if there was a concession selling anything to drink it was so far away I was worried I'd never find my girlfriend again (Yvonne Kallenborn from just outside Stuttgart! I wonder how you are??) As you can see, they built the Wall as the show went on. We were given white masks to wear for parts during the show, I remember I kept mine for many years. It was a bit far away, but I do remember Sinead coming out, as I was already a big fan and had seen her in Boston when she first came to the US right after her first single had dropped. Boston had a big Irish history and community at the time, and the flights were like $90. That show was at the Paradise on Comm Ave. She seemed to me to be so shy, she never spoke a word to the audience. She sang beautifully, of course!! Funny, she must of had a band, but I can hardly recall the band. She was such a presence. Her voice was SO STRONG and yet so soft and so sensitive!!! I was in the US Army at the time, and was in Bavaria when the wall came done, late nov of 89. I had to put in for a pass, but with a friend we drove to East Berlin and was there for Christmas Eve of 89. We stopped at Dachau, and because my friend was Jewish, he wanted to see Buchenwald, which was in the East. Very different,I can tell you. Through the years I always loved Sinead, though I never saw her again. If you've never heard her album "am I not your girl?" you need to. Its an album of pretty classic, but little known jazz covers. She reimagines and totally owns every song!!!! She takes Madonnas "Don't cry fo rme Argentina" and just inhabits that song with such a force that for the last 30 years I completely forgot it was ever a Madonna song! That album is full of heartbreak, bitter longing and anguish, and its perfect! Even the title, "am I not your girl?" She just wanted to be loved, and for those of us who could hear it, it really came through! But the anger and disappointment towards the end of "Just Like U Said it Would Be" is off the charts. Not until Alanis Morrissette years later had any female sang with such unbridled passion and anger. But, unlike Alanis, Sinead could be sooooo soft and intimate, so personal. The greatest song on that album, to me, is not what many would think. To me, the longest song, the 6:35 long song "Troy" is the masterpiece. Its starts out slow, with her calling, talking to us about being the "phoenix from the flames" than, quietly, " I never meant to hurt you... I swear I didn't mean those things I said! I never meant to do that to you next time I'll keep my hands to myself instead" But than, something happens, something changes. "Oh does she love you? What do you want to do? Does she need you like I do??" When she asks "does she hold you like I do?" her voice just wails and soars in pain and anguish, chasing the violins up through the range! But than she says us that she will RISE! She will return and we will see her in what she is, for there is no other Troy left to burn. The last 2 min of that song are simply some of the most powerful singing I've ever heard. Full of pain. longing, turmoil and anguish for how it all fell apart, with Sinead at the end yelling "Makes no different what you say, you're still a liar! YOU'RE STILL A LIAR!!" For anyone that's ever been cheated on, or more accurately, been drawn into the wrong relationship, given everything, than had that person turn away and than screw you over, yeah, that's your song. In closing, many, many years later, as the years of my life were reckoned, divorce came and visited upon me a world of hurt and misery. For that, Sinead had the perfect song all ready for me; "The Last Day of our Acquaintance" If anyone can relate to the words "I'll meet you later in somebody's office. I'll talk but you won't listen to me...I know you're answer, already." I'm very sad, as she's been in my life for many years, through my marriages, my kids, my divorce, through it all I could hear her singing in the background, just wanting to be loved, just like me.
First time hearing her do this song .. WOW I couldn't make it through the whole song with our breaking up. She's absolutely amazing. A true beauty. Forgot how great a vocalist she was. Her passion and voice is unmatched by any other.

She was an angel... A tortured one. But with a reason. I believe she came to open our hearts. And she did mine when I was 14. Now I'm 48, and when I hear her sing, my heart opens. Always.
I'll always remember how appalled I was when she got booed off at the Bob Dylan Anniversary concert in '92. I remember how incredulous I was that fans of Bob Dylan would stoop to such a barbarian tactic. She lived her life at war with the world and now her battles are over.
Rest in peace. I always loved the reverence she gave to this song. One of my favorite performances of all time. I could listen to it over and over again.
Oh the memories! I was 19 when I joined my friends on the train from Stockholm to Berlin to see this once in a lifetime concert. Sinead O’Connor’s performance is even better than I remember. Rest in peace ❤
The more l hear and listen to her the more the loss us palpable❤ Back Home now my love. All is well . Mother understands now n your son embraces you xxx❤
I have watched this concert hundreds of times and consider this version of Mother to be the best version that exists of this song without question. And her smile after the audience reaction to the first line is priceless.
I lost my mom in 2016 and this song has been in my heart since. Now I have to mourn to wonderful women and it's really hard to get through it. But, I force myself.
Hands down the best version of this song. I related to this song when my parents split up in the 70s. But it really hits home watching my son and my grandsons grow up!
Questa versione di mother, con Shinead, Roger e tutto il resto, è la una delle canzoni più emozionanti della storia della musica. Prendetemi con le pinze ma la trovo un capolavoro assoluto. Waters=Genio
I grew up with this live and this song always excited me. Seeing Sinead singing in front of this huge audience with his fragility, emotions, humility, her smile and her perfect voice, made in my mind the example of the real artist.....rest in peace Sinead, the most beautiful voice in the universe!
After Sinéad's passing I stumbled upon this performance and I was so blown away by her and The Band's vocals here (however brief it all may be) that I just had to get this concert and get it to play on a decent sound set. I can tell you that I got even more blown away hearing this bit with the original mix in Dolby Surround. Played Live in Berlin years before and I don't remember it making much of an impact then. Things have changed. Rest easy, Sinéad.
The proud smile on roger waters face @2:25 is like a proud daddy or even in awe of the moment when an angel is sharing the same stage and delivering powerful vocals to your hand written lyrics and also realizing that this is a once in a lifetime, one off,one and only performance as time literally stands still! Musicians know whats best for music!
There is something very special with each person here! Hearing them all together, is something unique in itself and personally, I appreciate what each and every one of these talented people, bring to this song! Love it and all of them!
You can see in this performance how she balances feeling - moments of intense emotion, followed immediately by a sense of calm and centered strength. A great interpretation of this song, paired with Levon Helm and Rick Danko. RIP Sinead.
Listened to this cover on a loop for the majority of my high school years and revisited today after feeling devastated to hear of her passing so young. I always looked to her as a role model in feminism and always will. Rest in power Sinead 🕊️
She sung LOVE. And WISDOM. And HOPE. No matter the hardships she went through. I believe she was an angel sent to make us see and understand with our HEARTS AND SOULS. Fly free, beautiful one...

Never heard this version before. Holy SH *T this rocked me back on my heels. I don't often have "frisson" tears, but this version definitely did. She communicates a perfect "scarred, victimized, fearful" voice, reflected well in her demeanor.
She had a voice of the land from where she came. A voice of the wind and the rain. A voice like a storm and like a gentle sunrise.

I'll always remember how appalled I was when she got booed off at the Bob Dylan Anniversary concert in '92. I remember how incredulous I was that fans of Bob Dylan would stoop to such a barbarian tactic. She lived her life at war with the world and now her battles are over.
Sinead, you have returned home now. And I will miss you while I am still here. Hell of a ride.
Rest in peace. I always loved the reverence she gave to this song. One of my favorite performances of all time. I could listen to it over and over again.
Yes, I had to be sure it was them... Yet no mention of these legends in the description.
Sinead O'Connor & Garth Hudson: iconic even in this time..❤👈(from Jujuy,Argentina)
What an incredible version of the song.
She Absolutely nailed the song
Oh the memories! I was 19 when I joined my friends on the train from Stockholm to Berlin to see this once in a lifetime concert. Sinead O’Connor’s performance is even better than I remember. Rest in peace ❤
The way she's so vulnerable and shares her emotions and pain with all of us, that is what makes her so beautiful and special.
So true
Oh please , go get your heart removed from your sleeve , “Oh look at me , oh the humanity is unbearable “…
The more l hear and listen to her the more the loss us palpable❤
Back Home now my love.
Ein Song der berührt , mich tief ,sehr tief ,berührt . Danke fürs Hochladen ! Danke dass man solche Musik geniessen darf.
Sineads voice is magical, has been with me for so long....RIP ❤️...
What an amazing performance… Sinéad, you nearly drove me to tears. We all miss you so much.
R.I.P., you beautiful soul!
Just nearly? I’m in bits.
Speechless at how powerful this is. I was in the military when the Berlin Wall fell...Sinéad is such a bad-ass. ♥️
Roger can be proud... he assembled such talents together for such a great celebration!!!
One of the greatest songs ever written.
RIP Sinead !!Sometimes this world is just a little to much to bear! Love your work on this song! Always helped me along.
Tener que cantar esta canción sabiendo todo lo que había sufrido con su propia madre ha de ver sido un tormento para ella 😢 descansa en Paz 😘❤️🩹❤️🩹
I’ve always thought that about that experience for her
Cuánto talento se llevó ésta gran artista!! ❤
One of the best covers of any song I've ever come across. She does an amazing job.
Glad to say i was there!
Me too ❤ and coming back to this video and seeing so many new comments fills my heart
She sung LOVE. And WISDOM. And HOPE. No matter the hardships she went through. I believe she was an angel sent to make us see and understand with our HEARTS AND SOULS. Fly free, beautiful one...
RIP Sinead, a truly beautiful unique voice. ❤
You , Yes You
Stand
Still Laddie. I miss sinead O'connor, the world is never going to be the same place without her. 😪.
Not sure how you can't like her voice, everything she touches with her voice turns to gold. Can't get enough!
Nothing like her before. Come back soon Sinead. We need you.
Magnificent legendary version! They all bring it together, Sinead, the legendary members of the Band and Waters of course!
She was a goddess of voice and heartfelt love . Pain was her friend..some days..
Bless you my love..
What a wonderful take on this forever favourite song !! Well done Rodger Waters for bringing Sinead in to do the vocals .. absolute purity!!!
Earth’s loss .. sing on in peace Sinead
Plus the addition of The Band's Robbie Robertson & Levon Helm along with Roger on the back up chorus.
I said it 10 years ago: this is my favorite version of this song. I’ve always been on her side. Anyone defending her now is too late and disingenuous.
when people talk about THE VOICE this is exactly what they mean
Absolutley superb preformance..........Sinead Born this day 1966 08/12/66
You really can not get much better than Sinead O'Connor .... goose bumps. Love this performance. Classic.

The best performance of this song, ever. RIP Sinead :(
i first watched this performance when i was a kid and loved the bald woman singing a song called mother. never imagined i would move to her country one day... and that i would be crying her death with her people ... hope you find the peace you deserve sinéad... here we're still looking for it, too...❤
So glad I came across this tonight....R.I.P.....Sinead O'Connor, much love.
Quelle superbe interprétation de Mother, inoubliable, intemporelle. C'est ma version préférée, elle me donne la chair de poule chaque fois, et j'en redemande. RIP Sinéad et merci pour l'ensemble de ton œuvre.
Man, O'Connor and the guys from The Band absolutely killed it, I might even like this version better than the original
Yes, what a line up!
RIP ”Shine On You Crazy Diamond”❤️
The true self, Soul, is eternal. I wish I’d seen Sinead in concert.

Oh Sinead.. I will NEVER FORGET YOU OR YOUR STORY!! This one rips my heart out 💔 Rest Well beautiful, if there's anyone who deserves peace...ITS YOU 😢❤
What an amazing talent and Soo beautiful looking girl, she had the courage of lioness❤
Never heard this version before.
Holy SH *T this rocked me back on my heels.
I don't often have "frisson" tears, but this version definitely did.
She communicates a perfect "scarred, victimized, fearful" voice, reflected well in her demeanor.
Her vocals makes the hairs on my back stand on end. haunting, pained, beautiful.
this is my favorite memory of this Angel
So much emotion in the voice of this beautiful soul, tears streaming down my cheeks! ❤😢RIP dear sweet Sinéad.
Wow, beautiful music, and keep Vlog and sharing with us
Thanks again for what you've given to this world Rest In Peace Sinead we still love your songs
