He was a wonderful man and a caring teacher. I, too, went to Friday Harbor with him. It made a lasting impression upon me, not just scholastically, but spiritually as well.
In case people are having difficulty understanding (because it took me a moment to reflect this) This is NOT just an older gentleman prattling on about his life. Great Teachers do not just tell students concepts, they SHOW them. That is exactly what this precious soul is doing here. Useing his life, he is illustrating the title of his talk. From trying-> to doing. As a little boy, he did not see a need of a little girl. Then he learned from a true friend, that by practise we can change ourselves/our outcomes. At the end, he notices a need and ACTS to fill it. What a phenominal talk.
I took invertebrate zoology and marine biology from Dr. Braithwaite in the early’70’s. I loved those classes, and Dr. Braithwaite, he taught with the Spirit.
I need more grandparents...glad youtube is here to let me glimpse into the examples that others have set of leading with patience and wisdom like this. True love encourages the highest effort.

A humble, caring, loving, thoughtful, tender servant of our Lord who tends to the flock of the Savior.
