I don't think Metallica (Hetfield, Ulrich) realise how much people loved Jason. He was the perfect fit.
The are realising that.. but they live this Metallica life.. we only see and hear the outside
I don't think they care
he is a monster on stage. a force to be rekoned with!!!
@@8888sam he WAS. He even said recently he would never be able to play live with Metallica due to his injuries.

No disrespect to Rob but Metallica was better with Jason. His playing is so Intense. One bad ass on bass.
I actually prefer Rob, Jason was amazing with the crowd, but Rob have more skills on bass, and also he play it with his fingers ;)
I agree!
bad + ass = bass
Edward Anthony Leone. n Cvbbo

Edward Anthony Leone vocals+bass=bad mafuckin assss!!!!
I gotta say Jason was awesome on stage such a great energy he had back in those days.
I miss him. Metallica lost something there off their onstage persona.
I agree!
Marcos Nan no disrespect to cliff and bob. My favourite metallica years are the jason years.
I have to agree!! Rob tries with all his "crab walking" but Jason brought the extra touch!!
The harmonizing with James on Sleeps gives me chills...... man that dude gave everything he had every night live
Anybody catch the little Outlaw Torn jam during King Nothing? 10:00 mark
Jason! Man! how long will you take to come back Buddy? We fuckin' miss you all the time!!!!!
They sound Great!!!!!!!!!. James and Kirks guitar sounds are killer. James' vocals and Jason's back ups. Lars and Jason played like a rythmn section. Classic Metallica!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jason rules

Thats all i have to say.

31:13 that scream from James though....
This is from the Swedish TV2, I stayed up to watch this back in 1997, it was awesome!
Jason is metallica
Mee too! Taped it and watch it endlessly.
This is the first Metallica concert I ever saw when I was a kid (from VHS). I didn't understand a word, but I am still huge fan 25 years later. Amazing!
Makes me wonder why people say they dropped off after 1993. They got pretty damn heavy live 97-2000
It's a shame they rarely played a lot of the faster stuff in this era, because they were really in much better playing shape than when they brought back the fast stuff more regularly again years later and the tempos were more all over the place, sloppy playing, shoddy double bass etc...
Awesome setlist - awesome Jason
omg ...i´m old. This was my first metallica concert. 25 years ago!!!!
Damn! That era Jason cuold quite easily be the member of Pantera, if Rex to be sick or tired:) The most driving person on the scene, I think beyond too. Playin' is also brilliant! Also awesome backing vocs! Although the cameramen seem to be the fanats of Cliff:)
Same feeling here, dude! Just went through "Sleeps". Man, I didn't realize before that Newkid sang all along. There you go, nothing else to add.
This was the first I ever really saw by Metallica. My dad recorded the concert because it was after I was asleep and told me and my brother the next day. The rejoice. I've seen this concert on VHS so many times I can't even count. I didn't even realise lyrics were missisng in Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets before I heard the studio version (because James lets the audience sing instead). This will forever be my benchmark for how Metallica sound, how James voice is etc. It even felt weird hearing the studio version of Master of Puppets after this because his voice is so different. Massive nostalgia listening to this now, 19 years later. And yes, Jason is killing it. He might not reach quite up to Cliff Burton (seriously, Orion is still one of the greatest songs written and I haven't listened to Metal for a good 10 years) but god damn he's absolutely on fire here
I love reading stories like this because I remember watching VHS copies at friend's houses after school and trading them.
+David Jonsson samma här, mamma spelade in. guld
Volodymyr Ivanytskyy believe it or not, there's footage in RUclips of Jason playing on stage with Pantera in 94
59:33 I'd like to see Kirk's reaction to that burp :D
metalhead lmao
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.
My best Metallica period.... Jason rocks !!
Recorded this on VHS back when this aired. It was so cool to hear Fuel here before Reload came out. I remember being disappointed in the album version at the part where Jason singing on and on on and on etc, it sounds so killer here live, but on the album it's just James mildly in the background.
Great sound, killer guitars, and they play really well. Jason kept everyone in check.
Until It Sleeps fckn awesome with Jason...fckn great..his voice!oh my god.
I've got this concert on a bootleg cd, don't know why I've never found it before on RUclips, still amazing now, brings back so many memories.
Hero of the day, what and underrated gem.
One of my favorites. Couldn't help but notice James repeated part of the 1st verse on verse 2
This was broadcasted on Swedish Television on channel 2. I saw it and taped it on VHS. Watched it many times- really nice to see someone put it up here. Thanks! Best live show ever!
Damn it Jason in the outro of Hero Of the Day.. Goosebumps..
Thanks brother

This is still one of the best shows ever by Metallica.. mostly because I was in my 20´s and had the sound like James dirty rythm at the time from my Mesa amp... and the era was great to.. something in the air when I watched this on German tv Live.. even though I was about to get of for work 5 hours later.. :D.
Damm!!!! No one gonna replace Cliff batter than Jason Newsted.
Metallica have been an unbelievable band to watch at any point in their long career
I was there! Cool show - those were the days ...
Первый увиденный мною концерт после него по жизни с Metallica
The time between the master of puppets album and this concert, is the same as death magnetic and today ... mind blown
Omg that is crazy, I feel old....
The version of Fuel at this consert is bad ass!
Jason....💔
i guess Because he left the band?
Absolute legend!❤
omg kirk`s hair...

Wie lange habe ich darauf gewartet, bis dieses Konzert auf dieser Plattform erscheint, bis es ein 'irrer' Fan online stellt! Great!! Das beste was jemals von Metallica veröffentlicht wurde! Habe es leider nur auf VHS und bin umso dankbarer für das hier 👍
ONE ist der Knaller!!! Danke an FullConcerts100 für die Setlist 👍👍
I love the sound systems. I watch it as if i was there directly in front of them. Funtastic!
so James hasn't sung half of Master of Puppets for like 20+ years now? Still a killer show. Jason's roar is sorely missed. Easily the most brutal dude on the stage.
Nah, they started playing MOP in full at least 15 years ago
@@olivergrigg7351do u know why they stop playing the best part of that song at that time ???
@@olivergrigg7351 The entire MOP returned briefly on the ReLoad tour in 1998, although I'm not entirely sure how long it stayed, as they were back to the first half for their Woodstock 1999 performance. In 2000, they did a medley with Welcome Home (Sanitarium) whereby they did MoP until the bridge, then Sanitarium until the bridge, then the final verse & chorus of MoP. The entire song didn't make a permanent return to the setlist until their 2003 Summer Sanitarium tour.
BTW, I've seen Metallica 17 teems, starting with the 1988 Monsters of Rock tour. Master of Puppets is the only song from them that I've seen live (at least part of) on every single one of those shows.
@@jeferssonmontoya2177 Because unfortunately they went through an ego period around the 'Load' time and tried to morph into a hard rock band. They tried to distance themselves from their roots as metal was perceived to be "uncool" at the time. Fortunately common sense prevailed and it was returned to the full version again. I got the impression at the time that it was more Lars and Kirk taking them in that direction, James and Jason were a little more resistant.
@@pancakesgo7995 dude the short version of MOP emerged in the monsters tour in '91. Not sure what version they played in the few 1990 concerts. But it was not a "load" thing.
Funny to see Kirk with short hair..

One week before this concert James getting married with Francesca
eh? whats with the cameras snubbing Jason?
James slipped them some bucks to avoid him 😳
39:16 goosebumps. One of the best performance of One.
The Blindman's Ball was the festival if I'm not mistaken. It got aired live on the Austrian radio (either Ö3 or FM4, can't remember), and I taped it on audio cassette then. Those were times, eh?
Hahaha skipping the Master of Puppets bridge to get to King nothing, top trolls
James sounded like 1992 on Stone Cold Crazy.
This is just so great, and I must say those back vocals are so missed nowadays...

Oh lange her. Erste Reihe war schon hammer.

This is a damn good setlist

Miss Jason being in the band...2nd best bass player they ever had.
The first being Ron McGovney, right? 🤣
the best one imo
@@sguaranas Live maybe, but i’d still choose Cliff for his song-writing influence
@@vincent2053 yeah but Jason wrote good songs/riffs too, like Blackened and my friend of misery. He could wrote More but you know
@@sguaranas I do love those songs. I just feel like Cliff was more of an equal to James. His influence became obvious given their change in direction after his death, and like James said, Cliff would’ve pushed against those changes
Metallica was way the fuck better with Jason.
In back up vocals alone. Nothing else. He had a huge influence on the B-side plop that filled most of Load and Re-Load, however. Rob helped with Death Magnetic and Hardwired, which brought Metallica back to it's roots. Cliff was their roots. Jason was the weakest part of the band's history and always has been. Still important, and still apart of the Metallica family forever, but they were better both before and after him.
No. He's right metallica was way better with jason. R.I.P metallica 1981-2001
imo jason wouldnt be as praised if they hit their prime with cliff. jason gets praised so much because they hit their prime with jason in the band
tHAT intro on King Nothing is so badass!!!!!
metallica without jason is not metallica
1997 was a wild time for 'Tallica. How do you follow up one of the greatest albums of all time? The setlist is tight as fuck, and doesn't let you catch your breath.
Fuel; In the space of 3 months, they've "fixed" and switched the verses round. On Cunning Stunts (May 9/10th) there's a very raw version of it where the vocals are all mixed up and the solo's slightly different.
Creeping death is the best when Jason is there
Herói do dia! 🤘🏻
Maybe one of the most intense "Nothing else matters"-Versions recorded. Surely the most intense I know.
Awesome sound
Jason is a total badass!!!
How cool, i was there back then :-)
I really wish metallica wouldn't have washed down their sound on load and re-load so much, because live, they could have still thrashed out some more classic sounding songs easily. James still had his voice, jason was still heavy as fuck, lars didn't suck as bad as he does now, and kirk could still for the most part play his solos.
+morsteen Well they got tired of thin and tight Mesa Mark sound and switched to Mesa Dual Rectifiers which sound a bit more wide open but muddy as well and lars switched from larger sized drums to smaller sized drums. Thats understandble after playing 15 odd years. And they got somewhere in between in Death Magnetic and after that.
+morsteen Mesa Dual rectifiers and playing half a step down will do that lol.
+morsteen so your saying James cant sing, Jason is soft, Lars is a shit drummer and Kirk can't even play a guitar? really? So why have they sold millions of albums world wide and sell out all live concerts? Stop being Jealous. Its a curse.
+Peter Hotdog Yes, I am saying that currently they all pretty much suck, COMPARED to this era, which was the last moment in time really, where they COULD HAVE thrashed, but chose not to. So to me, not utilizing that when they still could, is a waste, and a sad occurence. They have sold millions of albums and sold out concerts because people still like them enough to support them. Isn't that obvious? Why do people go to Madonna concerts still? Why do people go to Katy Perry shows? It's because they like them. It doesn't mean they are necessarily that amazing, or have much artistic integrity. Why ask such an obvious question? I would be jealous if they could still thrash, because then it's like, DAMN they are old as fuck and can STILL THRASH!? OH GOD MY LIFE SUCKS. lol. I'm not jealous in the least, i'm completely saddened, because this was THE band that made me pick up a guitar, and they hold such an important place in my life. It's hard to watch it decay like this.
+tallicat hetfield No! Its Ron McGovney!
I'm loving it)))))))
Did this concert come up on dvd? Someone knows!
WOW!!!!!!!
i remember buying this on vhs in a market with the only money i had. i was like 10 years old back then. ^^
live shit binge and purge is their best stuff. Battery from the 89 tour has to be the fastest they ever played that song
18:50 Fuel
Cool, da war ich damals dabei.
Ohh, we can hear the bass now!
39:39 Jason becomes ghost satan
They looked great with short hair, but I loved James' intense performance with long hair. The third big loss after Jason. 🤭❣
Am I the only one who really digs the guitar tone from load and reload?
I hate them. Very dark and muddy, no presence and treble and very low distortion saturation. Not metal at all
@@mehegama to each their own I guess. A lot of people don’t like the justice tone cuz it’s to dry tinny and too much low end, but I think it’s one of the heaviest tones I’ve ever heard!!
@Michael Frankowski absolutely not. I love big fat sounding guitars and bass and that's what this era brought. Couple that with how bottom-end Lars' kick drums were then and this is one of my favorite sounds of theirs.
@@mattyjoetvh I also think that silver sparkle kit Lars used from 96 to 2000 was one of his best sounding kits!!
@@invisiblekid7374 100% agree with you. Not just his kick drums, but every tom just thumped with bottom end. When you pair that with this era's sweet sounding bell on his ride cymbal and the snap on his snare on something like 'Until it Sleeps' or 'Bleeding Me' the quiet verses give way to the thundering choruses that much more emphatically.
they are the best.........
Great vid, fantastic performance and Lars timing was much better back then
Is it true that James took singing lessons?? His voice seems "cleaner" in One. 🤔
simply great
