  • I made the transition to Toyota! This is my new-to-me 2010 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition.
    I took my stock 5th gen 4Runner Trail Edition off road! I decided to check out parts of the Kentucky Adventure Tour and Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway to test it out. I probably should have upgraded the tires first though!

    You’ve got a new subscriber. I too bought an early 5th Gen 2013 4Runner Trail Edition in great condition. It came with TRD Pro wheels and brand new Nitto A/T Terra Grappler tires. If your stock 2010 can do all that, I’m keeping my suspension stock. That’s the most type of off-roading I plan to do. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures with your 4Runner!

      @@chewminem2044 My brother co-owns a shop that specializes in customizing Toyota\Lexus 4x4s, in Vancouver, so I didn't actually have to order anything. They modified the hood scoop insert and did it all themselves, before there were as many options on the market. However this was a few years ago now and there are many options on the market now, where it has become a more popular idea, so if you Google search "5th gen 4Runner hood scoop light bar (or LED lights), you will definitely find several options.
      Just be sure it is for the 4Runner and not another make, like Tacoma, and that you aren't ordering the flashy color changing, strobe LEDs that are for showy street vehicles. A few friends have made these mistakes lol

    Loved seeing the dog play like that. Traction mats can really save your arse and are easy to carry with you. Good on you for having them. I have Go-Treads but haven't had to use them yet. Even AT tires probably would not have gotten you out of that.

    If you’re worried about road handling and aggressivetires, don’t. Get ko2s and be down with it. They actually handle much better than the oem.
    There is zero reason to keep the highway tires on a 4Runner.
    A 3m clear plastic wrap will help prevent paint scratches.
    Traction aids first require adequate tires.

    Awesome! I have that same exact model, just in silver. I got it this past February, and I love it! I have a set of RSG sliders I need to paint then install, and next up are a set of stock-sized General Grabber ATX mounted on TRD Pro wheels that I just couldn't resist!
    Great video, I liked that you showed your dog. Dogs are the best! I have two that love to ride in the Runner! (Or "Runnah", as we say in New England).
    That ZJ is pretty badass, I used to have one, but corrosion killed it. Those things are great on the trail, as you can see in the video that front end is super flexy. Solid front axle for the win!
    I tried the crawl in mine once. It was impressive how it worked, I went down a very steep, rutted switchback without touching either of the pedals. But jesus, the noises that thing was making...if I hadn't heard them in videos before, I'd have thought there was something drastically wrong with it. I prob won't use crawl very much just for that.
    Good luck with it, and I look forward to seeing the build progress!

    Currently been driving a friends 4Runner and they run great. I have always liked them. But, I have also been introduced to an alarming fact, Toyota trucks and 4 Runners are notorious for severe frame rot. They can look great on the outside and have frames rotting out. There have been several recalls and although the 4Runner is known to rust as bad as the others, there is no Toyota recall that I know of and a frame replacement is 12 grand. Enjoy it but sell it before the frame rots. Would have loved to have bought your Overland.

    • @TheFinalApproach
      @TheFinalApproach 4 года назад

      That really depends on where you live and how well you take care of your vehicle. If you live in the south (no snow) or regularly undercoat your car for every winter you shouldn't have a problem.

    • @jeffyork9389
      @jeffyork9389 4 года назад

      @@TheFinalApproach , not true. I live in the south and it rarely snows here. You will see that the frame rusting out is prevalent into the deep south if you do a bit of research. No prevention stops it as the rust begins inside the box frame rails. It's a known Toyota truck and SUV issue going back over 20 years. P.S. Toyota NA is headquartered a few miles from me. My neighbor is head of design engineering VP. We talk about it often. There are several class action law suits resulting in some recalls which are complete. The recalls cover the trucks but not the 4Runner.

      @@wilburpost7977 you are wrong. I welded frame caps on that Toyota 4 Runner and it was an 2006. His friend has a 2008 that has massive frame rust. I don't live in the rust belt. Toyota is in a class action of thousands of Toyota truck and SUV owners that have newer vehicles that were left out of a recall Toyota had. The class action is for trucks and SUV that are much newer. Its not a random or rare. Its widespread and they rust in southern states too.

    That hood scoop adds 78 fake horsepower. At least it does to mine. Results may vary.

      Revere Overland You have to make the supercharger sound with your mouth. Can be embarrassing with passengers but it’s worth the extra fake power.

      No they’re not. You don’t get any of those with the SR5 or Limited trims. They come with the Trail Edition (as I said in the video), TRD OR, and TRD Pro.
